The large hanger has multiple planes that students can choose from. It is super cool to walk around in if you haven't been around any aircraft, like me! The folks there were so nice and patient with us and answered all our questions which gave us peace of mind, knowing that our child would be in good hands up in the air. We are really pleased with our instructor, Zach, who is just amazing. My daughter loves being taught by him because he is easy-going and very thorough & patient with his teaching. He is extremely knowledgeable and it seems like he eats breathes and dreams all things aviation. If we have any questions in regards to flying, he has all the answers. We are really excited for our daughter as she progresses through her aviation journey and can't wait until she reaches her goal of getting her pilot's license. Rumor is, One Source is actually the best flight school there is at Van Nuys Airport so we are happy we made the right decision by coming here.

We enjoyed views of the SFV, Universal Studios, Hollywood and Griffith Park, Dodger Stadium, DTLA, Santa Monica, and the Malibu coastline before flying high above the Santa Monica Mountains en route to VNY. If it's available I highly recommend paying for the extended trip so you can fly over LA, the Hollywood sign and other cool spots. Reggie, our instructor, was very professional, courteous, easy-going, and friendly. He definitely made us feel safe and comfortable, as I'm sure the fear was mostly for him, flying with two complete strangers. But he did go over all the rules, do's and do not's of our tour, with was reassuring to us that he certainly knows what he's doing. With that said, we taxi'd for maybe 10 min until we finally got up in the air. It was fairly windy but with his experience and knowledge, he was able to fly us up safely as we followed the 405 towards Santa Monica. The view was amazing and I had a smile from ear-to-ear. Reggie showed us "historic" landmarks like DTLA. Santa Monica Pier, Catalina Island, which is all a cool experience to see from when you're up in the air. He also told us about the "extended flight", which I will be sure to do on my next visit. We did a few figure 8's and then returned to the airport. He was very attentive to our surroundings, making sure air traffic was clear around us. In addition to the flight, I also got to play around with the flight simulator. Watched a short video and Reggie explained the dynamics of flight. Overall, a GREAT experience that I will most definitely repeat and request for Reggie. The folks at Channel Islands Aviation were extremely kind and helpful. The customer service manager Alice arranged a hotel room for me and made sure that I received the 17% room discount provided to their clients. She also loaned me a phone charger for the night and had one of the linemen drive me to the hotel at no charge whatsoever. I cannot speak highly enough of their service and the atmosphere of the business. Top-notch all around. Darien was really knowledgeable, a great instructor and made the whole experience really fun and very memorable. The planes itself has so many amenities and perks that all the hotels around the world bow down to it. The bathroom itself is stocked better than my bathroom at home. #BathroomGoals! The seats are comfy - way better than first class on any commercial planes. Each swivel out, can rotate to face the front or back, there is a little desk tray that opens into a table top for your laptop and eating needs. Each seat comes with the cool shade opener/closer, headphones, etc. The plane has iPads stocked with the latest movies, bose headphones, a monitor on every seat plus the larger one in front. There are snack bars including munchies from Dean and Deluca and on the way back from Hawaii, Mauna Loa chocolate boxes. If you want to take the nap, the back area is where you can sprawl on the "couches" and for eating, there are trays you can put on your lap. I need to get rich and fast.

Years ago, Kevin Schiff did some general maintenance on my plane, and I had no complaints; however,…read morehe ultimately (mis)diagnosed a suspected crankshaft failure. Per his estimate, the repair would cost between $10000 and $15000, and my heart sank. After some research, I decided to first have the crankshaft thoroughly boroscoped and mechanically examined by an FAA-certified engine specialist before agreeing to such major repair. The inspection cost me a good chunk of money, but no damage to the crankshaft was found. None. I got it in writing, too. I can only assume he was embarrassed about getting it so wrong, as Mr. Schiff quickly advised that he would not work on the plane again in the future. Entirely his decision, of course. I found another experienced mechanic in no time and continued flying my bird for hundreds of hours without any problem. The plane is living out of state today, still flying high - with the same crankshaft.
