The large hanger has multiple planes that students can choose from. It is super cool to walk around in if you haven't been around any aircraft, like me! The folks there were so nice and patient with us and answered all our questions which gave us peace of mind, knowing that our child would be in good hands up in the air. We are really pleased with our instructor, Zach, who is just amazing. My daughter loves being taught by him because he is easy-going and very thorough & patient with his teaching. He is extremely knowledgeable and it seems like he eats breathes and dreams all things aviation. If we have any questions in regards to flying, he has all the answers. We are really excited for our daughter as she progresses through her aviation journey and can't wait until she reaches her goal of getting her pilot's license. Rumor is, One Source is actually the best flight school there is at Van Nuys Airport so we are happy we made the right decision by coming here.

We went for a flight around the Los Angeles basin and further up north via the coast to Camarillo before we headed back to the Van Nuys Airport. Upon return, again, the front desk gal was very pleasant and asked how my first flight with them was. I appreciated the interaction. I had a good time flying and the kindness at Corsair Aviation was noticeable.

He was also kind enough to take photos for us prior to getting on the plane. I love that I was able to walk beside them from the training to the actual flight time. If it's available I highly recommend paying for the extended trip so you can fly over LA, the Hollywood sign and other cool spots. The folks at Channel Islands Aviation were extremely kind and helpful. The customer service manager Alice arranged a hotel room for me and made sure that I received the 17% room discount provided to their clients. She also loaned me a phone charger for the night and had one of the linemen drive me to the hotel at no charge whatsoever. I cannot speak highly enough of their service and the atmosphere of the business. Top-notch all around. Darien was really knowledgeable, a great instructor and made the whole experience really fun and very memorable. From my experience, I would highly recommend getting your lessons from Darien and at Clipper in general. Their facilities are clean, everyone there is friendly and they take really good care of their planes. For all new pilots definitely check out the Cirrus! Such an amazing plane.

Years ago, Kevin Schiff did some general maintenance on my plane, and I had no complaints; however,…read morehe ultimately (mis)diagnosed a suspected crankshaft failure. Per his estimate, the repair would cost between $10000 and $15000, and my heart sank. After some research, I decided to first have the crankshaft thoroughly boroscoped and mechanically examined by an FAA-certified engine specialist before agreeing to such major repair. The inspection cost me a good chunk of money, but no damage to the crankshaft was found. None. I got it in writing, too. I can only assume he was embarrassed about getting it so wrong, as Mr. Schiff quickly advised that he would not work on the plane again in the future. Entirely his decision, of course. I found another experienced mechanic in no time and continued flying my bird for hundreds of hours without any problem. The plane is living out of state today, still flying high - with the same crankshaft.

With almost every repair, Kevin texted me pictures of the repair and parts he fabricated or replaced. If you're in the valley and own a piston aircraft, you can't go wrong with him. Before my IFR checkride he helped to make sure all the ADs had been complied with, placards were in place, and that the aircraft was in tip-top shape. I'm also one of those last minute ADS-B installs, and I'm sure I was more of a pain in his ass than anything, but when I called him a week before 2020 I felt like he wanted to make sure I was ADS-B compliant more than me! He ended up fitting me in on the 30th, and I'm good to fly Jan 2020. Keep in mind that as a PIC and aircraft owner, it's YOUR responsibility to make sure the aircraft is safe and airworthy, no one elses. But if you're in the market for a good mechanic, he'll make sure the wings stay on and the engine runs.
