My sister in law pawned the family jewels without telling anyone. Now, she is terminally ill, not even able to sit up so obviously she cannot go anywhere, let alone to a pawn shop! We are taking care of her in our home. As part of our duties we are trying to clean up her financial records and got a Power of Attorney to do so. When she disclosed that she pawned the jewels we went to this pawn shop a with the power of attorney, but the shopkeeper refused to honor it. Its pretty clear that want to steal our jewelry so I contacted the licensing board for assistance. Rude service. Terrible offers. Consumer caution: even on high-demand tech products they do not budge on 20% eBay resale value...AND THATS FOR OUTRIGHT PURCHASES (don't get me started on the crap they offer for loans). Repeat customers be treated like suckers and viewed as nothing more than exploitable and desperate puppets to the Short female Manager who rocks the tacky ice and the guy with the white beard who engages in negotiations with the most condescending and confrontational tone ever. (Do not try to call him out on his rudeness, his reaction is to kick you out of the store if you try to stand up for the right to be treated with any type of respect whatsoever). Seriously two of the sleaziest and meanest pawn brokers I've ever dealt with. Next time I come back for my items will be the last time I try to establish any professional relations with these a***holes. There is one thing at this store which kept me coming back to this store, time after time, and that was employee Andrew. He's helpful, knowledgeable and upbeat, which helps the process along. He has gone out of his way to help me in the past and I have appreciated his customer service skills. Up until tonight that is. After spending 30 minutes in the store while they researched and wrote up the purchase of my power tool, the employee couldnt make out the serial number and cancelled the transaction. Im of the opinion, that in life, all rules need must allow for some flexibility. Especially in the second hand dealer business. I recognize there are strict guidelines for these shops to follow, established by the Department of Justice. These rules are intended to protect the consumer. Im the consumer in this situation. However, in all rule situations, there must be a workaround available when there is a disparity in the rules. The moons dont always line up with the stars. In my case, the sun has worn away the serial number on the tool. The label wasnt removed or scratched off, it was sun faded and therefor illegible. Additionally, the purchase price was only $25 for the tool. We are talking very small beans here. Yet the store clerk realized he couldnt read the number so he refused to buy the tool. No ifs, ands or buts, just sorryand NO. I personally have two or three thousand dollars worth of merchandise on loan at this place as I write this review. Ive been coming in this shop for nearly a year. There's no chance in hell id ever steal an air compressor, and then try to sell it here. By now, these people must know im not bringing in stolen goods. But Instead of offering to give me a loan on it, to avoid the entire serial number requirement, they just turned me out, refusing to buy, which puts me in a terrible predicamemt tonight. I came here with the tool because im completely broke today. $25, minimal as it is, would've afforded me gas to get home and dinner money for me and my dogs to eat. But now I wont make it home, nor be able to eat. Consequently, im very upset. Since they didnt even try to do anything else to help me, like call a manager or offer a loan instead of a buy, I wont be back in the future, except to pay off my loans and pick up 65" television, my three MAC computers, and my diamond rings, and apple watch. They could have used the model number and created a serial number since the CAPPS reporting system doesnt validate serial numbers, or they could of at least called a manager for assistance. But they did not provide any alternate suggestions, just simply helped me put the tool back in my car and locked me out of the store. Surley since they have jobs, they don't recognize my struggle, nor do they feel the need to keep long term customers happy. It would be different if they were paying me a stack, or if It was my first time into the store, but neither of these apply since Ive been coming here regularly, and getting loans on my precious valueables for at least a year. It was merely $25. I dont even think police would do a report for an item so small. And i doubt the DOJ is combing through CAPPS system searching for a $25 air compressor. I know for this for sure. Mostly because its not stolen, but also there isnt enough man power for such research. And why would I risk myself and my future for $25? Im broke not stupid. Finally, just FYI the DOJ is requiring the completion of a report upon each purchase with complete item descriptions, fingerprints of seller, verifiable ID of seller, a model number and a serial number. But they dont validate any of this information within the system so essentially, Gems & Loans could put any number they want in the serial number field. It would be no different than an employee making a type error. There is no clear reason they should turn away a regular customer, unless they suspected the item were stolen. In which case, they could also search the CAPPS system for such a thing. Besides, if it were stolen, based on the condition of the label, it couldnt have been reported to police to begin with. Bottom line is, its clear Gems & Loans doesnt want or need anymore of my business. They arent the only shop in town. I always felt comfortable coming here, but not anymore. So as i sit here in tears, trying to figure out how I will eat dinner, and drive the 20 miles home, I definately will be thinking about how screwed up these non-humans are for treating a loyal customer so poorly. I used to think they were in the business of helping people financially, but its evident to me I was wrong. Clearly none of the employees has had to starve or been been without, or they wouldnt have treated me like a hobo tool thief. They dont need me, nor my future business. Meanwhile, Ill be on the side of the 15 freeway hoping someone will stop to help me get gas to make it home. Air compressor for gasoline anyone? read more

I brought in a ring valued at $6000 (from multiple appraisals and other pawn shops with a known clarity and cut grade as set my GSI) and they (Andrew) offered me $220. That was the ONLY pawn shop to offer less than $1500 for the engagement ring. He told me the clarity was I2 which it's clearly certified as an I1. When I asked him what his qualifications were for pricing and identifying rings he said "well I don't have any." I knew I'd only get a fraction of the value but less than 5%?! He told me the ring was worth $1100. Clearly in experience is what runs this shop. This place is a joke. I wouldn't sell your jewelry here. read more
