I'm a former Marine who was new to shooting handguns. They took really good care of me there, I asked about gunshot etiquette because I don't wanna be that-guy. They helped me pick my first handgun (which I've always wanted) was a Kimber 1911. The attitudes are really good there, the older gentleman who I believe may be the owner showed me how to field-strip the gun when I picked it up. He took the time to show me what cleaning supplies he recommended which I had no idea because in the Marine Corps, we don't get nice things like that. So I wasn't going to write this review but after thought I felt the owner should know how his staff treat a customer. I called them at 10:11am on Friday morning spoke with a very nice gentleman as I was in search of two Benelli Super Black Eagles for my wife and I for our anniversary. I was looking for them in a specific finish. The gentleman was not sure if the camo pattern the had was the one I requested but he gave me the model number so I could verify it. Turns out is was not the correct finish. No problem called back at 12:01pm to ask of they could order the finish I was trying to get my hands on only to be met by the worst customer service and sure wish I would have written down his name so I could put him on blast. Long story short The Shootist in Murrieta lost $4,000 shotgun order and a $1,100 Shadow System DR920P. Because of how I was treated I went a head and ordered from Evan's Gun World in Orange. The customer service e difference is worth the almost 2hr drive out of my way. read more

I walked in with a few questions and high interest in making a purchase but we walked in feeling less than welcome. The hurry up and wait was all too real today. Came in to get ammo for a gun we purchased (from this location.) It wasn't overly busy & we waited patiently. We were not rude in any form as we know it's a weekend and close to the holidays. We were at the counter for 20 minutes and not once were acknowledged; not even a simple "hey guys we'll be right with you." Meanwhile you can tell who the regulars were as they came in after us and just walked right up to chat and there were three guys in the office just shooting the sh!t. This has happened previously on another occasion as well, but today was more so frustrating because we were right at the counter clearly awaiting assistance. I even tried to respectfully ask for assistance and was ignored, at that point we left. Disappointing. read more

Highly recommended. Guns can be a tough business with stores like turners and Bass Pro advertising sale prices. But try to get good customer service at those stores is something else entirely. Take a number at both those places. The Shootist has been in business for over 30 years because they do it right. Great store, great customer service with a home town feel. They have news and used guns. Latest models from every manufacturer as well as antique and collectible firearms. They have everything you could need from beginner to experienced shooters without cluttering their store with yeti coolers and camo hoodies. I took my wife in there to help get her into shooting ( which by default would allow me to buy more guns). The staff was so friendly and helpful that she became a customer too, which worked out perfect. They're very knowledgeable on current laws and can steer you through California's bs. I don't know the last time a local Turner's donated to a local fundraiser, but The Shootist is always helping out. read more

Went in today to have my M&P Shield 40 looked at by their gunsmith John. I purchased the gun a little while back, and the slide lock has been hard to release since the day I bought it. John, whom I gotta say was very friendly, informed me that the M&P Shield is just that way, and there is no fix for it. He even showed me a newer, more updated one, and it had the same issue. He said when loading it, you wanna load the magazine first and then pull the slide back to lock and load your weapon. I understand this as it's not my first handgun, but I appreciated the lesson. What about when you have to reload another magazine and the slide is in the rear position after you've dumped your first magazine.You're gonna have to release the slide lock. I was able to go on Youtube and find a fix for the issue that takes about 10 min. None of this, however, is the reason for the one star. The reason for the one star is the F'ing A hole, who was my first point of contact when I approached the sales counter. Don't know his name, but he had short gray hair with a goatee. As a military vet, business owner, and law abiding tax payer, I refuse to be treated with disrespect as if I'm some punk know it all kid who's still wet behind the ears. I don't know who you are or what your background is, or what you've done or seen, and frankly, I don't give a shit! I do know that you are evidently a very unhappy person who has no social skills whatsoever. Hope you find peace one day. That's a terrible way to go through life Bought a couple of guns here, some ammo, and some snap caps over the past couple of years. I'm not local so I don't get in there as much as I'd like but I like to stop by and see what I can find in the used section due to CA law making it hard to bring in handguns from out of state. I bought a gun during the Murrieta Rod Run and the two young ladies I think Ashley and sorry I forget the blondes name have been very pleasant and efficient even when shop is busy. Guns/2A/the shooting sports are very important to me and a huge part of my disposable income and time go toward collecting them but I will not tolerate disrespect or attitude from any gun shop no matter how good the deals thankfully the good service here is just icing on the cake. Gun shops and hobby businesses in general tend to be plagued by poor customer service. Another overlooked plus is they have access to a restroom most gun shops don't! Comes in handy. read more

I'm starting to shop for a handgun options. I own a revolver but would like to get a smaller version & perhaps also adding an automatic. I walked in & didn't see anyone at first. As I approached the limited handgun cases which were half full, at best, a guy came out. I wasn't sure he worked there since there was no name tag, store shirt nor greeting. I get this isn't Best Buy but a scruffy guy with a sneer doesn't put you in a buying mood. I had to ask him if they bought used guns to which he gruffly replied 'depends'. He didn't ask me questions, offer to help nor point out anything....he just stared at us. Most be the owner's son because he's 1 of the worst sales guys I've come across. Upon leaving I noticed their sign outside says we buy used guns. Not the way to potentially sell $600 to $2,000 worth of inventory. I will NOT buy from this store. read more

I went in there mid-day this afternoon to buy some 22 long rifle. Prior to purchasing the ammo I observed two workers at the shootist with terrible attitudes. Then another worker came up and was going to assist me, but she had the same type of attitude. I told her what I needed she grabbed it quickly did a background check like normally questioned over and over and said that I needed a firearm certificate. I told her I didn't need that to buy ammo she finally agreed. Her attitude was terrible. The no-name ammo, they sold me was marked up almost 300%. It was $14.95 for a round of 50, 22 long rifle. A little ridiculous. I lived in this town for over 30 years and now I know why I have not gone there in several years. I plan to not visit there ever again. What a joke. read more

Went into the shootist yesterday for the first time just to look around. As I was looking around I saw a knife I knew I needed and that I wanted, so I was sold on it. Patrick was so kind and patient with us and answered all of our questions and he stayed with us as we looked around and let us hold and feel some of the items in the show cases. I didn't look at it too closely at the knife I had purchased, when I got home and did further inspection I found out I over paid for this knife. It was in the wrong box and priced way toooo much for what it was. It was the same brand as the box said but a different knife than what was labeled. We brought the knife back into the store and explained what happened to Tim, who was the sweetest! He heard us out and when he opened the box he saw that it was indeed the incorrect knife and that I was overcharged. Tim took great care of us in helping us resolve this issue as I really did want this knife but I didn't want to have paid more than I should have. So thank you so much for your kindness and help in resolving this with us. Definitely will be back. read more
