This place is like family to me. I'm on a first name basis with most of the staff, and they always greet me with a smile and hello. I buy most of what I need here, and I can't help but feel like I'm cheating on them if I buy anywhere else. Best gun shop I've ever stepped foot in. Special thank you to Ashley, John, Patrick, Beau and Tim (also Rick, even though he's not an employee ;)) read more

Amazing customer service! Always get straight up suggestions and they give you 100% of their attention with a smile.

Thank you Beau...Outstanding customer service, put two guns on consignment and left an additional one with gunsmith. Thanks again... read more

An absolutely amazing experience! Haven't bought a firearm in 6 years and had to renew my FSC card. Was interested in a Glock 26 and I had Tim and Patrick help me have a smooth and easy process for renewing my FSC and purchasing my new pistol. Both were absolute gentlemen and I will definitely be doing more business with them. All staff were friendly and knowledgeable and this will be my go to firearms and ammo dealer! Thanks again! read more

I have been doing business at The Shootist for many years. I am very pleased with their selection of firearms and accessories Overall, the staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and very receptive to questions. The gun smith is very knowledgable and does great gun work. This family owned business strives to provide excellent customer service. I will continue to go to The Shootist for purchases and gun work. I recommend them for your 2A needs. read more

Bought a used shotgun there a long time ago. Well worth the money. Nice, friendly employees.

Service was amazing. Beau helped us with everything. Huge selection. Definitely worth the money.

Nathan made sure things went smoothly for us and all our needs were taken care of. Tim is knowledgeable and honest. They were the two who helped us with our selections and transactions, but all staff were engaging, friendly, and intelligent. They have a great selection of firearms at affordable prices. read more

The Shootist - Guns & Ammo Near Me - Murrieta, California

Great local gun store, friendly knowledgeable staff. I have been in this location a number of times and have and have no complaints.

Sooooo... I stopped coming to the Shootist because I felt rushed and I felt like there was no real assistance. I went today and asked to get assistance with my slide and a young man by the name of Bo helped me out and also answered all my questions. His friendliness today will probably help me come back to the shootist... Thank you for bringing my hopes again for this place. I can start referring people again to this place. Thank you again read more

I've been coming here for years , they continue to surprise me with how helpful and friendly the staff is . I can't thank John /ashley /nathan enough. The selection is the best in town and gunsmith is unmatched . They had an issue with my sight not fitting correctly and immediately fixed the issue and helped on pricing . I will forever be thankful for this family owned and operated businesses. read more

This place was recommended by a couple of friends of mine. Went in to see the gunsmith, he was very transparent and honest with me. Unfortunately what I wanted to do, just wouldn't quite work as I was hoping. Appreciate them not just trying to take my money. Will definitely be back here if I need anything and also recommended it to my dad as well. Looked like they had a great selection! read more

I'm a former Marine who was new to shooting handguns. They took really good care of me there, I asked about gunshot etiquette because I don't wanna be that-guy. They helped me pick my first handgun (which I've always wanted) was a Kimber 1911. The attitudes are really good there, the older gentleman who I believe may be the owner showed me how to field-strip the gun when I picked it up. He took the time to show me what cleaning supplies he recommended which I had no idea because in the Marine Corps, we don't get nice things like that. I will definitely be a returning customer. read more

Great little shop lots of knowledge. Wide selection of guns. Honestly It's a hidden gem in downtown Murrieta. Go ask to see a guy named Patrick. read more

I'm from PA, and had a rifle that was stored in SoCal, and needed shipped back home. Always wary of the stupid CA firearm laws, & was naturally not looking forward to dealing with the assumed headache of shipping a firearm out of CA...but no! The Shootist made the process extremely easy, and both Erin & Jim were extremely helpful & both pleasant to work with. The price was very reasonable as well. If I ever need assistance from a gun shop in SoCal again, I will be heading straight to The Shootist! I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

I telephoned them today asking if they handled transfers between private parties and if so, what were their procedures. The man I talked to was courteous, professional and very clear in his explanation of the procedures. My friend and I went in later today and found them to be equally courteous and professional. Everything we did and had to provide was exactly as what was explained over the phone earlier - no surprises or contradictions. I found the entire experience to have been very pleasing. read more

good selection of firearms and accessories, found what I was looking for and the staff was friendly and professional.

Went to buy a handgun and they have many selections with good prices compared to other gun shops.

So I wasn't going to write this review but after thought I felt the owner should know how his staff treat a customer. I called them at 10:11am on Friday morning spoke with a very nice gentleman as I was in search of two Benelli Super Black Eagles for my wife and I for our anniversary. I was looking for them in a specific finish. The gentleman was not sure if the camo pattern the had was the one I requested but he gave me the model number so I could verify it. Turns out is was not the correct finish. No problem called back at 12:01pm to ask of they could order the finish I was trying to get my hands on only to be met by the worst customer service and sure wish I would have written down his name so I could put him on blast. Long story short The Shootist in Murrieta lost $4,000 shotgun order and a $1,100 Shadow System DR920P. Because of how I was treated I went a head and ordered from Evan's Gun World in Orange. The customer service e difference is worth the almost 2hr drive out of my way. read more

First impression is everything to me. I've heard nothing but greatness about this place and maybe I caught them on a bad day. I walked in with a few questions and high interest in making a purchase but we walked in feeling less than welcome. The young man seemed less than interested in my questions so I asked just one about a rifle. Based on the young man's demeanor, I decided to leave it at that one question and say goodbye. Needless to say, I made a very expensive purchase elsewhere to a host of employees ready and eager to help with my questions. My friend loves this place and I am glad he has a great experience with the fellas working there. read more

Always has exactly what I need. Amazing inventory and quality items. Every-time I go in there, it's been a breeze. I really appreciate the customer service. I recently sold and purchased some items. The Shootist just cemented its place as my absolute favorite gun shop. I walked in with an open mind and out with a receipt for a Langdon Tactical 1301. And let me tell you, they gave me a REALLY good deal. The staff has enough experience to know exactly what you desire and will get you what you want. Thank you again, Patrick! read more

One of the better gun stores I've been in . I've been shooting over 50 years and I can count on one hand the good gun retailers in California. Sorry but that's the situation. Some are rip offs, some are weekend warrior types. I just want a fair deal when buying product and asking questions. No BS please? The Shootist offers that, sure they have one or two that push product too much and some buyers need that be it they are new to firearms and are timid about asking questions. A good place to browse no one harasses you if you are just looking. read more

You looking for a gun shop look no further. Sure there's other ones and they're good too. But shootist has been around a very long time. All of their personnel from a to Z are knowledgeable helpful. Weather it is accessories or firearms tryout them. I think you'll like them. read more

Was looking forward to purchasing some firearms but was ignored at the counter for over 15 minutes as the employees were chatting with eachother. Very disappointing experience. read more

The hurry up and wait was all too real today. Came in to get ammo for a gun we purchased (from this location.) It wasn't overly busy & we waited patiently. We were not rude in any form as we know it's a weekend and close to the holidays. We were at the counter for 20 minutes and not once were acknowledged; not even a simple "hey guys we'll be right with you." Meanwhile you can tell who the regulars were as they came in after us and just walked right up to chat and there were three guys in the office just shooting the sh!t. This has happened previously on another occasion as well, but today was more so frustrating because we were right at the counter clearly awaiting assistance. I even tried to respectfully ask for assistance and was ignored, at that point we left. Disappointing. read more

The shootest is very clean and well tocked. I came in gorgeous 9mm and left with much more. Patrick is very nice and knowledgeable. I recommend The Shootest if your ever in Murrieta. read more

Highly recommended. Guns can be a tough business with stores like turners and Bass Pro advertising sale prices. But try to get good customer service at those stores is something else entirely. Take a number at both those places. The Shootist has been in business for over 30 years because they do it right. Great store, great customer service with a home town feel. They have news and used guns. Latest models from every manufacturer as well as antique and collectible firearms. They have everything you could need from beginner to experienced shooters without cluttering their store with yeti coolers and camo hoodies. I took my wife in there to help get her into shooting ( which by default would allow me to buy more guns). The staff was so friendly and helpful that she became a customer too, which worked out perfect. They're very knowledgeable on current laws and can steer you through California's bs. I don't know the last time a local Turner's donated to a local fundraiser, but The Shootist is always helping out. read more

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. FAIREST PRICES IN SOCAL. I went somewhere in Temecula and their charges and prices were triple the price of this shop. Great business, fair business, great people. Would definitely recommend this place the most out of socal! They stick with fair market prices unlike other shops!! read more

Went in today to have my M&P Shield 40 looked at by their gunsmith John. I purchased the gun a little while back, and the slide lock has been hard to release since the day I bought it. John, whom I gotta say was very friendly, informed me that the M&P Shield is just that way, and there is no fix for it. He even showed me a newer, more updated one, and it had the same issue. He said when loading it, you wanna load the magazine first and then pull the slide back to lock and load your weapon. I understand this as it's not my first handgun, but I appreciated the lesson. What about when you have to reload another magazine and the slide is in the rear position after you've dumped your first magazine. You're gonna have to release the slide lock. I was able to go on Youtube and find a fix for the issue that takes about 10 min. None of this, however, is the reason for the one star. The reason for the one star is the F'ing A hole, who was my first point of contact when I approached the sales counter. Don't know his name, but he had short gray hair with a goatee. As a military vet, business owner, and law abiding tax payer, I refuse to be treated with disrespect as if I'm some punk know it all kid who's still wet behind the ears. I don't know who you are or what your background is, or what you've done or seen, and frankly, I don't give a shit! I do know that you are evidently a very unhappy person who has no social skills whatsoever. Hope you find peace one day. That's a terrible way to go through life Bought a couple of guns here, some ammo, and some snap caps over the past couple of years. I'll just cross this gun store off my list of considerations when Im looking to buy again. And for the record, I don't expect this gun store to give a shit if I buy from them or not. read more

My husband and I LOVE this place. They have such a good variety of guns and ammo at great prices! The guys working here are super helpful! Got to give a huge shout out to Nathan! He helped my husband and I purchase a few guns already and he really knows his stuff! I'm starting to shop for a handgun options. I own a revolver but would like to get a smaller version & perhaps also adding an automatic. I walked in & didn't see anyone at first. As I approached the limited handgun cases which were half full, at best, a guy came out. I wasn't sure he worked there since there was no name tag, store shirt nor greeting. I get this isn't Best Buy but a scruffy guy with a sneer doesn't put you in a buying mood. I had to ask him if they bought used guns to which he gruffly replied 'depends'. He didn't ask me questions, offer to help nor point out anything....he just stared at us. Most be the owner's son because he's 1 of the worst sales guys I've come across. Upon leaving I noticed their sign outside says we buy used guns. Not the way to potentially sell $600 to $2,000 worth of inventory. I will NOT buy from this store. read more

I'm not local so I don't get in there as much as I'd like but I like to stop by and see what I can find in the used section due to CA law making it hard to bring in handguns from out of state. I bought a gun during the Murrieta Rod Run and the two young ladies I think Ashley and sorry I forget the blondes name have been very pleasant and efficient even when shop is busy. Guns/2A/the shooting sports are very important to me and a huge part of my disposable income and time go toward collecting them but I will not tolerate disrespect or attitude from any gun shop no matter how good the deals thankfully the good service here is just icing on the cake. Gun shops and hobby businesses in general tend to be plagued by poor customer service. Another overlooked plus is they have access to a restroom most gun shops don't! Comes in handy. read more

I went in there mid-day this afternoon to buy some 22 long rifle. Prior to purchasing the ammo I observed two workers at the shootist with terrible attitudes. Then another worker came up and was going to assist me, but she had the same type of attitude. I told her what I needed she grabbed it quickly did a background check like normally questioned over and over and said that I needed a firearm certificate. I told her I didn't need that to buy ammo she finally agreed. Her attitude was terrible. The no-name ammo, they sold me was marked up almost 300%. It was $14.95 for a round of 50, 22 long rifle. A little ridiculous. I lived in this town for over 30 years and now I know why I have not gone there in several years. I plan to not visit there ever again. What a joke. read more
