I called on Sunday afternoon and spoke to Dale (Dyal?) about coming out to give an estimate on an area of my floor that needs repair. He said he was able to come the very next day (Monday) between 2:00 and 3:00pm. I have five month old twins and a sick dog and planned my entire day around this. He never showed up and didn't call. I called and spoke to a receptionist who said because it was a rainy day, he wasn't coming. I should have known better when I agreed to reschedule but I'm desperate to have the floor fixed. She assured me he would come on Tuesday at the same time and I specifically asked her to make sure he could call me if he wasn't able to come. Tuesday came and went and not only did he not turn up again, there was no phone call. What an unbelievable way to operate a business and a blatant lack of respect for people's time. Avoid at all costs. The initial job looked good except for various debris trapped under the finish. When it was apparent it required more than a few touch ups to fix (the guy who came to take a look said "They messed up your floors"), they offered to partially redo it. The redo was even worse, with some sort of brush fibers trapped everywhere - which was blamed on a brand new brush they had used. Dyal showed up to review the second attempt and said "At some point you're just going to have to accept it." and tried to blame the brush fibers on wood having "grains". This is not quality workmanship. He called me difficult, told me to find another company, and offered to refund half my money, leaving with his workers. read more

When I first reached out to Gemini, I was impressed. They offered to come by for the estimate the same day! Proposed time was around noon. When no one had shown up by 1:30, I called and was told they were 'running a little late.' Given that I work from home, I told them I would not be able to provide access after 2:30. I was told no problem. Around that time, I received a call asking me for my correct address. They had written down the wrong one. they came to refinished my wood floors FIRST they rescheduled for the next day and they dont show up at the time they give you. the color they did was great but the finish leaves much to be desired. there were so many waves in it from the sander i could sail a ship on it. apparently the sander was controlling him and not him controlling the sander. called them and they were suppose to come and take a look at what i was talking about they never showed and avoided all phone calls thats what you get for trying to save a few dollars. should have went with verrazano flooring at least i know they do high quality work. I am pleased with the services I received from Gemini Flooring. They gave a very reasonable estimate to sand and refinish the floors in my apartment. Sunny came and looked over the floors and did a careful measuring including closets, asked me about my preferences, and had suggestions. We scheduled the work and a few days later, Dyal and several crew members took over - the job took 3 1/2 days to sand and apply four coats of a water based poly. I chose not to stain the floors. The floors look much, much better! I'm very happy with how they turned out. I can't know yet how they will hold up. But my experience thus far with Gemini has been positive, and I would work with them again. read more

It's been nearly a year since Dyal laid our cork flooring and they still look beautiful! Cork is very delicate, it can buckle easily and if not treated correctly, it can discolor. But 10 months later, through the changes in weather and temperature, they are still gorgeous! Once we had all of the materials available for him, the job moved very quickly. He was very receptive to our unique needs as a fitness studio, and agreed to do the work overnight while we were closed. His guys had the studio all cleaned up and ready for class first thing in the morning. He also took time to explain best practices in caring for the floors, and how to maintain them. Do not use Gemini floors!! They do not communicate. Granted it was a very hot weekend, but called numerous times indicating I was flexible. They were due to come on Saturday, between 8am and 9am, I called the owner to confirm at 850, at that time he said" I was going to call you but because of the heat we can't do it today". I totally understood and he says they would have someone the next day, Sunday. I then called later that day and they indicated they would call to confirm, never got a call. I called again and the owner said he would definitely have someone at my house on Sunday. I conveyed to him, that it was still gong to be very hot, was he sure, his response "yes". Great, well no ever showed up and I called 3 times, no one picked up the phone!! Think twice before using Gemini. Communication is not their best attribute, and I'm guessing because they are busy- or my job was not very big. I had to make follow up calls for estimate and to schedule work date, and I was a bit frustrated. However, in the end it was worth it. The guys did a beautiful professional job in my studio apt.- three coats and done in one day to perfection. One note: I can't remember if their site said 'sand-less' but the room was filled with very fine dust, which seemed to linger imperceptibly way after they left. Though the floors are perfect, I needed to get an air purifier to be able to sleep ( and use it for the last 3 months). I couldn't sleep in the room for a few days after... needed to dust walls, ceiling fan, etc. The owner is very nice. read more

Gemini flooring was professional and reliable from our initial phone call. When considering contractors, homeowners want reliability, professionalism, communication and reasonable pricing. I can honestly say, I received all four with Gemini. I found them through the internet, after frustration in dealing with a national flooring company. The owner, Dyal, came to my home to get a visual before providing an estimate. Dyal is extremely knowledgeable of his craft. His extensive background in wood cutting, staining, etc is remarkable. We live in a Brownstone that has wainscoting and other wood throughout. The excitement and enthusiasm Dyal exhibited when discussing our room and vision, made it clear that this is more than a job, but a passion. Anyone who owns a home that is a constant project would truly appreciate working with Dyal. He gets it! On the first day of the job, workers were punctual and were able to remove the radiators (old school and HEAVY) before commencing the job. During the process, they were neat and ensured my closets remained covered with plastic. (I am anal about dust anywhere near clothing). Although my significant other had visited the showroom and chosen a color, when the job was completed, the color did not reflect our vision. Gemini came right back and re-stained the room to customer satisfaction. Did I mention, they create the colors themselves; there is no Miniwax here!!! Gemini mixes the color to your desired hue. This is great! I was able to video chat with my guy as the colors were mixed, and the process was explained every step of the way to ensure we were on the same page. Bobby and the other employees were also pleasant and professional. They are the ones I dealt with throughout the day, and it was without incident. Women, in particular will understand, there was no feeling of disregard when speaking with them. My voice was just as valid as my guy. That is VERY important to me, and most contractors speak to women differently than they do men. Everyone here has told you how great their floors look. Lots of people end up with great looking floors but only after a lot of aggravation. So let me tell you about the best part of the process: everything that comes before the refinishing - and the amazing professionalism of Dyal and SallyAnne. I called late on a Sunday (the site said they were open but I was thinking, yeah, I'm sure I'll be leaving a message) and to my surprise, SallyAnne picked up the phone! She said she'd call Monday to cement things, but before she could even do that, Dyal called me first. SallyAnne did call again as promised, and laughed when I told her Dyal had contacted me. I was pinching myself. Did people actually respond and call when they say they will? I haven't had service that this since...ever. So, as I live out of state and this was for my mom's apt. in Brooklyn, it was really, really important that we meet at my convenience when I'm able to get to NYC. Done! Then, thanks to the MTA I was stalled and I called Dyal, who said not a problem, I'll just meet you an hour later. Done! In our previous conversation,SallyAnne had asked me what the square footage was, but I didn't know the exact s/f at the moment, so she told me what the price per square foot was. Dyal came, measured, and his price squared exactly with what I was told. He was ready to go to work immediately, he uses Bona, which is ecological....and I was just floating. Folks, I had to take 2 days off from work, day 1 Dyal comes, day 2, the work begins, and the building super was cool about letting him come in as I had to leave and go back home. I've done extensive renovations - and been the victim of extensive renovations -and this experience was just unheard of. And let me tell you this: while I was waiting for Dyal, I also had scheduled a plumber from Angie's List. Who, after being 45 minutes late and not contacting me (I had to call him and ask where are you), he tells me his truck isn't working and blew me off. Unfortunatly, I cannot say the same for the gentleman that came to my home. He never instoduced himself by name, didn't have any company attire ( he was dressed as if he was going to the beach), tried to tell me the reason my floors were damaged when I know how they got to their current state and laughed in my face as I explained what I thought was happening. I called to get an appointment, and a woman told me someone will call me back to schedule. Next day a guy arrived without any appointment, he kept on ringing my door and calling my phone while I was in a meeting. He insisted that we need to remove the damaged part of the floor before even discussing what's next, because it was "too early to worry about it". I didn't go along with that and he said that my floor couldn't be repaired and refinished, and would need to be completely replaced, wich would cost me 9K. I asked for a written quote, but he said his partner will come another day. Nothing happened, so I called again and scheduled an appointment the following day at noon. At noon a very stern woman told me that I surely must know that traffic is bad and they'll be there at 2.30, no apology for the delay. After 2.30 I got a hold of the guy and he told me that I should talk to the original installer and that he didn't want to get involved. WTH????? Gemini Floors was one of several companies to bid on refinishing the 650 square feet of floors in my apt. Covering 90% of the total apt, the floors are a crucial part of the space. Dyal (owner) was flexible about viewing the job, and prompt with his bid. Dyal's team ultimately sanded, stained, buffed, and applied three coats of Acrylic finish to the floors. They did an excellent job and they got it done on the schedule I needed. In addition, when I realized the window sills needed the same work (and I had never mentioned it to Dyal until the workers arrived at the building), his team added the task to the job for very little additional money. OK I get it! You have been reading a ton of reviews in an attempt to find the right company to do your floors. You can stop NOW for you have found it. I recently searched the internet for the kind of reviews you are reading here. Thought I would put them to the test and see for myself. Fact: every request and condition I made was met without complaint. The finished project was beyond excellent. My entire first floor (including subfloor) was removed leveled and new subfloor with Red Oak floor over that 3 coats of Poly (water based dries quickly) were added. The workers arrived on time each day, and put in between 8 and 10 hours daily. Courteous, respectful, knowledgeable with a minimum of inconvenience and a price that was the best surprise of all. My ONLY regret, is that this review may be too good and I will not be able to get them back for other projects. Gemini just did a top to bottom renovation on our new house. They began with the flooring - removing carpeting and padding - sanding and applying polyurethane to our hardwood floors - and finally, doing the same to our wooden stairs and banisters. They also removed old balusters and installed new ones. Their work was amazing! The floors look incredible! Then, Dyal and his crew restored our heavily damaged walls by plastering, sanding, and freshly painting all the walls and ceilings. Again, an incredible job! They took great care to make our walls look like new, and they do. Finally, we did a complete kitchen renovation. Dyal and company removed old cabinet doors, hung new cabinets and created additional counter space. Once again, great, great work!
