If I could give 0 stars I would! Gem was a referral from a family member and they were great during the initial sales phase (the money taking phase). Ultimately though we DID NOT have the same experience that our family member did, I guess because we were unhappy with their work product and we had to go back and attempt to take advantage of post-sale service. If you are concerned about your jewelry store standing behind their work, you really should go somewhere else. We went in to have a tension ring re-sized, which they claimed they could do. We paid over $1000 for the resizing, and within 3 months the stone JUST FELL OUT!! Luckily after an hour or so on our hands and knees we found the diamond. We took it back for them fix it, which they did, for another charge of several hundred dollars. Guess what, almost immediately the stone became loose again. I gave them one more chance and to their credit they did not charge for the 3rd try. But within weeks the stone actually FELL OUT again (see picture). I went back in again, frustrated as you can imagine but calm, and they said they would stand behind their work BUT their work WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THE DIAMOND EVEN IF their work caused the stone to fall out and lost forever! What kind of comfort is that? Are they afraid of their own work product resulting in lost stones apparently? But I digress, Gem now claims that the ring style is the real issue, not their work! They say that tension settings are an inherently unreliable mount. Really? I don't think so because my wife had this same tension ring for over 10 years and experienced absolutely no problems at all. I kept telling them but to no avail, it's not their fault. In the end, I simple asked for my money back because they didn't do what we paid them to do! But, you guessed it, they would not accommodate at all, and had the audacity to tell me to go somewhere else and still kept my money So that is my recommendation to you, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! There are dozens of reputable jewelry dealers in the Dallas area that can sell a ring, but only the better establishments stand behind their work, and Gem is NOT one of those retailers. read more

After having some jewelry modified at Gem Classics, I had to return when I found that the length of my necklace was not quite as I had remembered requesting. We have been patronizing this business for over a decade and have always enjoyed the hospitality of Gabriel Romo and his family. They are our "go-to" jeweler for any custom work, repairs, resizing, or similar work. They also feature many high-quality items like Citizen watches. Most area jewelers aren't interested in doing custom work or working with sterling silver, but not these folks. Since Mrs. Bear and I have many items made of this metal, we need someone who isn't afraid to work with it. If you're looking to get jewelry for cheap, then this isn't your kind of place. The prices here reflect the quality of the merchandise, and you get what you pay for. They do frequently have sales and specials, which at least make you feel like you're getting a good deal. Completely dissapointed. Initially they were very friendly and helpful. For this reason we decided to get it appraised. The ring had never been worn, it had always been in its box, inside a plastic bag. We left it at the store, intact. When we picked it up we noticed scratches inside the ring. When we pointed it out to the son of the owners, he inmediately gave us a nasty defense attitude, definetely not appreciated. He tried to dismiss our concerns, as if they were not valid,because he is a jeweler and rings eventually get scratched. However, when you deliver an intact, unworn ring and get one back scratched, damage cannot be justified. He took it over to polish and steam, but it came back the same way. Very frustrating and dissapointing experience given the great reviews this place had. Lesson for the owner's son: lose the attitude, not good for customer service. Mom and dad were great at the initial visit,just want to point that out. Additionally while shopping for engagement bands we notice that they were extremely overpriced when compared to not just wholesale store such as costco, but even other jewelry stores. I know they will probably mention that it has to do with quality, but it does not make sense that items with significantly higher quality attibutes are cheaper elsewhere. We have been customers of Gem Classics for close to 20 years. It is a family owned business which is a huge plus in our book. Gabe and Becky are so nice. Sometimes it will be years between when we go in but they still remember us. From simple cleaning and repair to custom design, they do it all and do it well. I unfortunately lost my wedding ring several years ago and I brought in a picture of it, that wasn't very good, but Gabe was able to recreate it for me. I was so happy with their work. My husband and I were bored on Memorial Day, so we decided to take a couple of my watches (an Orient and a Michele) to get their batteries replaced. Unfortunately, my go-to watch shop was closed for the holiday. Nevertheless, we searched Yelp and were relieved that Gem Classics was open. We dropped in about 30 minutes before closing and were quickly greeted by Gabriel and his staff (which some were family). He quoted around $15 each + $10 each for express service (while we wait). Since I'm impatient and we had nothing better to do, I asked them to go ahead and replace the batteries as we perused their jewelry cases. Gabriel explained they are jewelry designers/makers by trade, but can repair items also. I wouldn't bring a watch here for repair just because I have a little more confidence in a designated watch shop, but I would certainly be interested in coming to Gem Classics for any custom work on jewelry. My mom recently gave me an heirloom gold jewelry set for my wedding that I'm curious to get redone into something modern.... we'll see. The watches were done and cleaned in about 15 minutes. They took pictures of the items which were then printed on the receipt, which was a unique touch. Everybody was extremely friendly and willing to help. It was certainly a pleasant experience! Obnoxious store personnel! I brought in a beautiful Mercedes Castillo ring to be stretched. They declined to help, and dismissed me with this comment, "we only deal in gold and silver" and not costume jewelry. I've given them my business before but never Nonsense. I came here to resize my engagement ring. Even though I didn't buy it from them, they did excellent work, had it finished within a week, and they do it all in-house. I loved how Mr. Romo took the time to educate me about the resizing process, the type of diamond I have, and he let me look at it up close with the magnifying lens. They finished the work before the due date they originally quoted me and the quality is very good - they used their best judgement to size the ring down a bit more than originally intended to fantastic result because the fit is amazing. We took our wedding rings here to be resized. Our rings are nothing fancy as far as jewelry goes, but they're special to us and the wonderful team at Gem Classics took the time to do the job right. They know what they're doing. Our rings are really wide and it affects the sizing - they knew exactly how to account for the width when determining the new size. We also have special features and engravings on our rings and they made sure that the resizing was done without affecting any of the rings' other features.
