When we arrived, there was a long line of food tour participants waiting, which seemed like a very good sign. Another good sign? The gelato was stored in "tin cans" rather than piled high in the display cases. I was told that this is an indication of fresh gelato. I had chocolate chip and black cherry in a cone, while the Mr. had banana in a cup. He chose to add whipped cream on top. I declined. During our time in Italy, we had some okay gelato, some good gelato, and some truly great gelato. This might have been my favorite gelato of the trip! Highly recommended

Tucked along the lively streets of Trastevere, this little spot delivers gelato with genuine craftsmanship and flavors that taste as authentic as the city around you. The first thing you notice is the freshness. Each flavor looks vibrant--not overly piled or artificially glossy--and you can tell everything is made with real ingredients. One spoonful confirms it: the gelato is creamy, smooth, and beautifully balanced. The fruit flavors burst with natural sweetness, especially the mango and strawberry, while the classics like pistachio, hazelnut, and chocolate showcase that rich, deep, true-to-ingredient taste that only well-made gelato can achieve. Their specialty flavors are equally impressive--unique without feeling gimmicky--and everything is served at the perfect temperature so the texture stays silky, not icy. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the cones have that fresh baked aroma that adds an extra layer of enjoyment. The staff is warm and welcoming, happy to offer suggestions, and patient even when you're debating between ten flavors that all look incredible. The atmosphere reflects Trastevere itself--relaxed, friendly, and full of character. Whether you're ending a meal, cooling off on a sunny Roman afternoon, or simply exploring one of the city's most spirited neighborhoods, GELATERIA alla SCALA is a sweet stop worth seeking out. A delicious reminder that some of Rome's best moments come in a cup--or a cone.

The gelato was still tasty and the employees here are very sweet and helpful. The Mango gelato was my favorite, tasted just like Mango Lassi. Yum! Their granita was a cool and refreshing treat on a hot summers day. After a full day of sight seeing, it was nice to grab a granita before going back to the hotel. The melon and strawberry granita had real pieces of fruit mixed within, which was delicious. Their Nutella crepe was awesome. The crepe had a perfect consistency and was prepared fresh. Filled with a generous serving of Nutella and topped off with powdered sugar. Excellent! There is counter seating inside and a TV. It's nice and cool in here too.

Every time we went employees were very nice and attentive, I am not sure if they are a chain or a one off store, but we enjoyed it tremendously. The only drawback if I have to mention one is that they did not have outside seating, but they are in a busy street with no view, so he really doesn't matter. This ice cream is definitely wonderful!

There was a small line when I arrived (one person starting to order, another person waiting to order). Only one person was working there at the time, and she ran the register as well as scooped the ice cream. All flavors are labelled in both Italian and English. Got the three scoop size in a cup for 3.50 euros with pistachio, stracciatella, and tiramisu. There's no seating at this location, so I stood and ate the gelato outside. Even after just stepping outside and taking a few seconds to snap a picture, the gelato was already starting to melt. Luckily, when it's in a cup, this isn't too big of an issue. All the flavors were a delicious and refreshing nighttime snack. However, the standout flavor was pistachio. This is the first gelato I've had in Italy, and I was expecting pistachio to taste like it does in the US. I was wrong; the pistachio at this location was so much richer than any pistachio flavored food item I've had in my life! Out of the three, it was by far my favorite flavor.
