Very good gelato. Only tried pistachio. And it holds its own against the best we've had in Bologna (home to Gelato University!)

100% Recommended…read more Very Famous Shop. I tried their Pistacchio Affogato twice. It is worth the wait in the line and the line goes fast. Unfortunately, i was not able to experience the knock on the small door to get my coffee. They also have tables and chairs inside. Even if they are very famous, they were able to preserve high quality coffee. I wanna come back for my 3rd coffee. Best PISTACHIO AFFOGATO so far. Just to share with you, this shop has an amazing and sweet crew. I can't stress enough how grateful we are to you today. I was in line for the coffee while my husband and toddlers are outside waiting, then the rained poured heavily. When I came out to find my husband, i found them soaking wet and were helped by staffs of Vivoli (at the back of their store). They let my family in the back, gave them towels and also offered shirts. If this is Italian culture, I love ITALY!!!!!!! They are so kind and hospitable. We will be forever GRATEFUL. And it will be a memory we will never forget! Grazie! From the bottom of our hearts!!!

As expected, this place had one of the best affogatos I've had. I happened to stop by around 4…read morep.m., and it was definitely busy. From what I've seen, it tends to be more crowded in the afternoon than in the morning, and that matched my experience. The line looked long at first, but there are actually two lines you can join, so it moves more efficiently than it seems. From getting in line to receiving my affogato, the whole process took about 20 minutes. Most people grab their affogato and sit along the street to enjoy it before bringing their dishes back. It's a fun, casual atmosphere and well worth the wait if you're in the area.

I don't know if there is bad gelato, but I haven't encountered it yet. That said, Sbrino is the…read morebest gelato I had in Florence, which puts it toward the top of the list of my favorite gelato worldwide. This tiny little shop has an inefficient system for ordering, which results in more of a line than their should be, and subsequently more of a delay than I'd like in getting the most delicious caramello gelato cone into my face. However, I find it hard to be upset with them once I am eating the gelato. Eating this gelato makes me very happy, and I would like to come back to Florence and eat it every day of my life until I die, fat and happy. (My apologies that my friend is in my photo of said gelato. It's the only photo I took of it, and I understand that no one wants to see his silly face, but I really wanted you all to see the gelato.)

If you have high quality ingredients, you don't need to pile on other things. And there is a cute market area you can buy local products. I ended up buying some sicilian, olive oil and was surprised at how expensive it was but I was curious about it because you can only get it in italy and it got good reviews. I have since tried it at home and it is high-quality Olive oil and so much flavor... It was shockingly good.

I made it my…read moreintention to try as much gelato as I could in the city so when we had some down time post-lunch we thought that a little sweet would hit the spot. To be transparent, one of the things that drew me to La Strega was the name, I wanted to see what was so witchy about this gelato - and of course the positive reviews helped. The gelateria itself was lovely - soft music playing with intricate decor and a good amount of space. There were a few chairs and stools in case you wanted to sit and enjoy, though they were a little awkwardly placed. There were several flavors of gelato as expected - instead of being on display they were in tubs covered in lids. I heard that's the "proper" way to store gelato as it remains fresher, though the jury is still out for me on that one. Anyway, I got the smallest cup size where I was able to choose two flavors - so I went with the cream and the chestnut. The gelato was really good - creamy with great flavor. Service was great, and overall this was a solid gelateria - La Strega is definitely worth stopping into when in Firenze.
