I brought my daughter to Advanced Bone & Joint (ABJ) after she suffered an elbow injury during a…read moreschool volleyball game. ABJ's website identifies the practice as an "Ortho Urgent Care" and states that walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. When we checked in, the front desk staff informed me that my specific Cigna plan was not covered. I was then asked to complete a "Select Plan Gap Exception Request" form, which was specific to my employer. Conveniently, ABJ had a copy of the form available to provide to me. Because I understood that my Cigna plan includes coverage for urgent care and emergency department services anywhere in the continental United States, I contacted Cigna directly to clarify the situation. The Cigna representative confirmed that my understanding of the coverage was correct. The representative also confirmed that ABJ had recently processed several claims under my insurance coverage. I was further informed by Cigna that the "Select Plan Gap Exception Request" form is intended for out-of-network providers. According to Cigna, ABJ does not fall into that category for my plan. The Cigna representative then asked the ABJ staff member who answered the phone to schedule an appointment for my daughter and to document in the appointment notes that Cigna had confirmed coverage for my plan. The Cigna representative also asked ABJ to discontinue using this form at its locations because, according to Cigna, it is intended only for out-of-network providers. As an additional step, the Cigna representative asked ABJ to verify which of its physicians were included in Cigna's network contract. During that process, Cigna identified inconsistencies in the provider network information and instructed the practice to submit a provider network information change within 30 days. This entire experience was extremely frustrating and concerning. Based on what Cigna communicated to me, it appears there may be a significant disconnect between how ABJ is handling Cigna patients and the terms of Cigna's network and coverage agreements. As a patient and parent seeking care for an injured child, I should not have to navigate conflicting information between the provider and my insurance company just to receive urgent care. The process we encountered gave me the impression that patients presenting for urgent care may be redirected toward scheduled appointments, potentially resulting in higher charges to the insurance company. If that is, in fact, what is happening, it is deeply disappointing. Patients should come first--not maximizing revenue. Shame on ABJ for creating unnecessary barriers to care and putting financial considerations ahead of the needs of patients and families.

Both times for injuries affecting my training and daily activities (e.g., ability to walk, work, etc. - let alone race). To me it is important to share: This practice crossed very serious ethical and professional boundaries during the course of my care. When I raised concerns in an attempt to resolve the issues, my concerns were not addressed. The issues persisted and in fact escalated. Rather than addressing any of this, OPC instead terminated my care. Following termination, I dealt with repeated contact and inappropriate behavior from individuals associated with the practice, actions which were intrusive and extremely distressing. All of this significantly affected my sense of safety and well-being and continues to do so. Patients enter clinical care expecting professionalism, boundaries, ethical conduct, and accountability. Those standards were certainly not upheld. I have had great experiences at many other practices across the St. Louis region. I cannot more strongly recommend that patients look elsewhere.

I am extraordinarily busy so I try to get his earliest appointments, often scheduling 6 weeks in advance to make sure I'm the first person. The only reason I'm writing this review is I'm at my 7:20am appointment and it's 7:42 and he still has a patient ahead of me. Targeting About a 30 -40 minute wait time. Again, my time was 720am. I'm supposed to be home feeding my.little girl who has down syndrome. My wife has waited as long as 2 hrs past her time. Again, we are still patients. The wait is worth it as our issues are getting resolved health wise, but you'll want to plan ahead like bring a book like war and peace or build a house while waiting or I don't know solve time travel. You'll have time for all of those.
