Recommended: Spencer Roofing is an excellent roofing contractor. The biggest challenge I had was…read moresimply getting on their schedule, which at the time took a good six months. Their reputation is such that they do not lack for customers. Details: When I purchased my home, the home inspection indicated the roof needed replacement, which we included in our negotiations. Although we were not in a crisis, the roof nonetheless needed extensive repairs, the extent of which I did not fully understand, so we hired a qualified home inspector to find a roofing contractor for us, and to act as our agent in contracting and monitoring the work. He found Spencer Roofing, and we could not have been happier with the results, which were nothing short of amazing. Spencer removed the multiple layers of roofing -- including the original gravel layer -- evaluated and repaired the underlying plywood roof, eliminated dips and depressions that impeded draining, replaced all of our skylights, and finally laid down a new roof. A separate contractor removed and replaced all the HVAC infrastructure, but Spencer would have done that too. After the repair and installation, I had a few minor issues. Customer service and response was courteous and timely. I recently had an issue a good 42 months after my installation (warranty is 36 months), and Spencer was out to see me two days later and repaired the issue. I am certain there are many fine roofing companies in Tucson. Spencer Roofing LLC is certainly one of the best.

There's no issue with his masonry work. He's dependable, and showed up when he said he would. He's a competent and hard working mason. However, in the bid was also work for grading the yard. He originally told me that he didn't do grading. Then he said he would do it, and get help/contract it out. I repeatedly asked him to call the landscaping company, as discussed. He told me he would call them, but he did not. He then told me he was a "landscaper" and did grading, drainage, irrigation, everything related to hardscaping. It didn't go well, he put dirt on top of a sandy yard, without consulting me, making my yard soupy. He said I approved this. When I asked him if he would take the dirt out, he stated he would only take it out if I put gravel in, and he would charge me $600.00. I had no intention of doing yard cover at that time. I did agree, because my yard was now a soupy mess. I told him I would go look at gravel and get back to him. The next morning he put down some gray looking gravel, that I did not approve, and do not want. This has been a frustrating experience. He repeatedly made decisions without consulting me, said I told him to do things that I did not, and added them to my contract which I did not sign for. I now need to hire a grading company to take out the gravel, the dirt, grade my yard, and fix the drainage. He didn't bring in a skid steer, and did not enlist the help of a landscaping company. This was supposedly the majority of the grading cost. He doesn't have a license for grading/landscaping. I'v tried to reach out to him so we can work this out in a way that is acceptable and fair to both of us, but he has not responded.

Back in late June I had gotten an inspection pursuant to buying a house. The only major repair that…read morethe home needed was a roof replacement due to some sagging/aging 4x8 plywood sheets (beneath the shingles) as well as shingles themselves that had endured hail damage. The homeowner also got an inspection and confirmed the diagnosis. They ultimately agreed to cover the cost of replacing the shingled roof and retained Repair First Roofing to do the job. Repair First was able to schedule the task just a couple of days later and their 3-man crew had it completed in 2 more days (this was crucial at the time since monsoon season was about to start)! From what I was able to briefly observe over those two days, the crew worked diligently and they were mindful of the neighboring properties regarding all of the old roof debris. Upon completion, Repair First provided nice aerial photographs. I had learned through this process that R.F. had a transferable warranty for a $300 fee. I contacted the front office and asked whether they might waive that transfer fee since the home, with its new roof, was about to be bought by me in a matter of days. Without hesitation, they agreed it would be absurd to charge a transfer fee in this circumstance. Following closing, Repair First forwarded the transferred warranty. Five-star props to John (the owner) and to Erin (the front office) for being consistently good communicators during the roof replacement process and gracious regarding the warranty transfer!
