His father was a teacher and competitive swim coach in the new England area during the 60's and 70's era. Naturally, his father had Tom trained at a young age to be a competitive swimmer. He spent most of his youth in pools. During his teens and early 20's he spent his summers lifeguarding the beaches and community pools of his Cape Cod hometown. Soon after high school and college he found himself back into pools, working for a small hometown pool company. He started at the bottom of the ladder as a laborer doing pool construction. He grew from laborer to salesman, to general manager, eventually to owner in a short period of time. Tom grew his pool company into one of the largest and most highly reputable pool construction and pool retail companies in Southeast Massachusetts and Cape Cod. Years later, the opportunity to sell his successful business was too good to refuse, and Marco Island became his family's new home.
