If you come to compare prices be sure to note that this meat is of a much higher grade that the conveyor belt meat from the grocery stores. The prices are not dirt cheap but you get what you pay for and that is quality. I don't know about you but I am fearful to buy meats that may be recalled tomorrow from the chain stores. I can't tell you how many times the meat from a grocery store goes bad quick even within 24 hours, sometimes the meat may look good in the store but when you get it home it is discolored on the bottom or throughout. I love knowing that the meat at Calhoun's is truly local and fresh! They will be a new staple in our community.

However, I consider such places above my budget. A friend who has had pedigree dogs suggested I get some beef/pork hocks and cross-cut marrow bones for my pup. In fact, a lady later heard me talk about this somewhere and said she would be going to get some for her Great Danes. (I hope I don't cause a rush on these and then I can't get them! :-) However, I found a new venue where I can get Penn's country ham. I have a venue for Berger (sp?) ham but I actually prefer Penn's. Now I can't stop going in there to buy country ham because it's one of my favorites. Alas, the saga continues, because one day I splurged on a pint of gourmet ice cream. No, it wasn't cheap, but OH MY GOSH I can't even describe it! This shocked me because I am not much of an ice cream eater having had an intolerance for milk as a baby. This stuff is indescribably delicious! I have also found other items occasionally like huge baking potatoes or fresh corn on the cob that they occasionally have. Iim just a little annoyed that it's taken me nine years to go in and check it out. The service is very good, and there is an obvious aura of family pride in their service. Because of all their yummy delectable items, you might have to wait a few minutes because they often cut your meat while you wait.

I have to ask for some cuts that should be stock item, such as tri-tip, big meaty beef ribs, etc. Price The prices are what they are. I find them acceptable, but if you're a "too pricey" person you'll likely need to go elsewhere. They do have goods sales, though. Service Having owned and run many retail businesses I would NEVER allow someone to answer the phones or appear behind the counter who cannot answer simple questions. I hear "I don't know" most of the time. Yes, they will go the back and see if someone can provide an answer, but oftentimes I need to ask them to do it. My suggestion to the owners is to train your people to be knowledgeable about your business. Take them in the back and let them see and learn about how meat is cut and what the cuts are. Have them cut meat with a qualified butcher just to get the picture in their heads about what they're selling.

My sister and I went to the business in Alvaton to pick up some sausage. There was a sign out by the road that said "Kirby and Poe" with an arrow. I turned into the driveway and noticed a building with a glass door that you could not clearly see inside with no identifying signs on the building. I parked and walked around the side of the building with no clear markings on the side. I cautiously opened the door and three people were right inside looking out the door. I said "I wasn't sure if this is a business or customer entrance". A man sitting to the left said "yeah we have an open door policy here". I said " I wasn't sure if this is where I needed to enter" We then noticed on the open wooden door the sign with the hours of operation. I turned to face the menu on the wall to my right and my sister noticed the man seated, made a face and rolled his eyes behind my back towards a man behind the counter. I could tell by the interaction with the man I was facing that something was happening behind me. It was a very awkward experience. I was a little taken aback by the situation and after paying nearly left my purchase because I just wanted to get out of there. Which added to the awesomeness of the experience. I did not feel welcomed in this business and I know made fun of when I left. A sign on the outside of your business building would be helpful to let customers know you are in the right place if "you are going to have an open door policy " and then maybe making your customers feel welcomed instead of mocked behind their backs would be good.

Yesterday we stopped at Hampton meats to get a few steaks and some hamburger, and the first thing that I noticed was that the meat is higher than Whole Foods at Whole Foods in Green Hills Nashville. But it's not grass-fed. When we got home, we fired up the grill, my father-in-law cooked some steaks, and he knows how to cook steaks. They looked great, they were tough as nails. OK. I'll let that pass because it happens sometimes. But today, when my husband went to the refrigerator to get out the hamburger, it was grey. I'm attaching a few pictures. (Please note that the iPhone doesn't truly show how gray this meat is. It seems to have added a little bit of color, but this stuff was grey ) Needless to say, the whole family was a little irked, and if I did live here, I would never go back. This meat is horrible, overpriced, and only God knows how old it really is. One more complaint is the girl at the deli counter. I don't know if she didn't wanna work on Christmas Eve day, but she had an attitude that put me right off. She acted like it was a big pain in her fat butt to slice a few pounds of cheese for me. And while she didn't throw it on the counter, she certainly didn't put it down nicely and she didn't say thank you. I was told since Hampton's changed hands, the quality and the service has been subpar. I can attest to that.

In addition to meat and deli, they offer all sorts of goodies, treats, and things to make your meats taste better. As a customer, I expect to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. Instead, I was met with an attitude that was unnecessarily harsh and unwelcoming. Because of this experience, I chose to leave without purchasing not only my deli items but also the steaks and other meat I had planned to buy for an upcoming family reunion. I hope management addresses this issue. Employees who interact with customers should provide respectful, courteous service. No customer should feel uncomfortable or unwelcome simply for asking to be served.
