There was a clear shift in so many things during our most recent visit. The host/owner was not happy when we arrived. I suspect this had something to do with the stressed out, slow, and confused waitress. She could not handle her tables and cash out. Super loud as always, but more. Probably other people displeased. The food was subpar. Too much oil and salt. Probably to cover the low quality meat and poultry. I also sensed garlic powder instead of fresh garlic in the preparation. Was not pleased to see how other staff let this waitress flounder when she needed more help. Indicates why there is not enough staff. But they were not packed. read more

We just ate here for the first time. I have heard many good things about this place and now I can post my agreement. My food was delicious. I ordered the Barbabietole (Roasted beets, whipped Gorgonzola, pistachios, glazed carrots) salad with North Atlantic salmon on the side. The salmon was grilled and topped with a fabulous pesto sauce. The salad with all those healthy ingredients was amazing! We sat at the bar with a nice view of the restaurant. Our bartender, Rodney, was extremely attentive. He could be a waiter in a 5 Star restaurant! I had to try the Tiramisu for dessert, because it is one of my favorites. It was delicious, I highly recommend it. While nearby decided to give this place a try. Outside it has a new/modern look but was not expecting a market in combination of a restaurant. We were asked if we had reservations but it was pretty empty inside but they had an available table on the patio which was a nicer ambiance anyway and when we were leaving the place was packed and not an available parking spot so understood why they were hesitant when we didn't have a reservation. The bread and butter was very good and we also really enjoyed the calamari as an appetizer (don't skip out on that!) it was lightly breaded and crunchy. The meals all came with a side salad and we all loved the taste of the red wine vinegar, it was a bit! I decided to try the special with manicotti and (I believe) beef and it was good but was more of a crepe style than pasta and the other two dishes were the more preferred entrees. We really enjoyed the Capagna orecchiette and the Porchellino mezzi rigatoni. Service was also great will definitely come back to try other items. read more

Really cool ambience, outstanding server - sorry I didn't catch her name. The Caesar salad was excellent as was the bread. Both of us ordered the Bolognese which was just ok, despite our server's recommendation. My personal suggestion, shared by our server: expand the bourbon selection!! Jack Daniels is sour mash, C&C is blended Canadian whiskey & Bulleit is ok but nothing special. The end. Except for the Perfect Manhattan which advertised a top shelf bourbon (I forget what it was) but they were out of that. ‍ We would go back tho! read more

Went to Guardino's the other evening and once again it did not disappoint. We started with the calamari and rustica salad, both always amazing. My friend ordered the amatriciana pasta extra spicy and they nailed it. My husband had the chicken parm and loved it. We also had the chicken pastina soup, full of flavor and so comforting. The house Cabernet was excellent and the Peronis were cold and refreshing. The ambience is beautiful, and the staff is always awesome and incredibly accommodating, even with my walker. First off from where I live, it's not even that far away! When you walk in the place / ambiance is phenomenal . Great style of music and designs everywhere, also they get you seated very fast and the food almost no matter what you order, it comes in around 5-15 minutes and maybe 15-25 mins is the max. Bathroom is also stunning, you can change the temp on the sinks! Service is just great, so fast and friendly, better than any restaurant around here (maybe) read more

Expensive with great potential if dining at the right time. We ate early lunch here, probably would be better at dinner with a full room. The Italians tend to cook better when it's crowded and food is flying all over the kitchen. Re: lunch, great bread and olive oil dip. The Italian Penicillin soup was served lukewarm (Strike One). The meatball sandwich was also served lukewarm (Strike Two). It was clearly reheated in a microwave and made yesterday. My guest ordered a freshly made pizza with exceptional quality cheese and pepperoni. Strike Three avoided! Waitress was attentive and friendly. Ambience was one of those large open industrial ideas with an Italian brew pub feel. A huge deli counter is strangely located in the center of the restaurant. I guess one could get some sliced bologna on the way out. They seem to excel at lunch meats and the charcuterie thing. read more

Gaudino's has become a solo treat for me on my way home from work. The salads are always a win. The Ravioli & Nonna's Meatballs are rich, fresh, & always delicious. Their signature Chicken Pastini soup is the Very Best soup for a rainy day along with an order of their bread & oil. Including the kitchen, bartenders, & waiters, this staff works together like a well-oiled machine. Definitely a Family Vibe with the owners of this lovely restaurant; They take the service and product they provide seriously. We tried to get into Luigi's, but they weren't taking walk-ins. :( YELP to the rescue! Gaudino's popped up so we decided to give it a try based on the great reviews. It sure did not disappoint! We got the chicken parmesan and the sausage pomodoro. Both were excellent! The chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, moist on the inside. The sauce was fresh and delicious. Service was excellent, we were greeted with water quickly, then ordered drinks and then the food. I took some tiramisu to go and ate it later. It was probably the best I've had. As we were leaving, the woman at the front desk made sure we knew our business was appreciated. We will absolutely be back. read more

This place was very good! We met friends for dinner here and got to meet the owner who was very personable. The owner even took the time to give us the history of the place when we asked (3 generations!). There's lots of old family pictures in the area by the restrooms too. The food was very good - Italian. Most of us paired and split a salad and pizza. We had leftovers for the next day. Highly recommend! read more

This place is disgustingly dirty they gave me a carryout that had a beetle looking tick bug embedded into my burrata. This is a major sign of unsanitary conditions and I never write reviews shaming restaurants, but this is unacceptable. $100 in food and this is the pride they put in. This place has received rave reviews for years, and recently my wife and I finally made it to Gaudinos for a dinner date. Let me say, the food itself is not the issue, our appetizer was good and our meals were very tasty. The portions were a little on the small side, but not a one-bite plate by any means. The service was another story. As we walked in behind another couple who was happily greeted by the host and server, we waited our turn to a very snarky, short response from the host. We were seated, our waitress came by once every 15 minutes, if I'm generous. The dish crew were nice and pleasant, but they were also high school aged kids who hadn't had the life sucked out of them by this atrocious establishment. It appears to me, that unless you are a regular debutante, you are relegated to the sidelines and your patronage is not of particular importance. All in all, there are better places to spend you money and night out than going here. 3 stars for decent food and drinks. read more

Finally grabbed a reservation for 4 of us tonight, booked it the night before. Yeah. Took my mother and SD out for a belated birthday dinner tonight. Judy is waiting on us. She's attentive and good to us. They changed their menu. No more lasagna. :/ Ordered a verdura pizza and calamari, Melanzane parmigiana (eggplant Parmesan), a bowl of zuppa di casa, Mediterranean salad, Manhattan, 2 arugula salad, ravioli, tiramisu. The eggplant Parmesan is okay, tad salty. The halibut wasn't bad. It tasted and smelled a bit fishy. The corn risotto wasn't my favorite. The Mediterranean salad was good. The chicken zuppa di casa was good for my SD. The ravioli was the tastiest. The verdura pizza was so-so. Crust was crispy. The calamari was lightly breaded, not greasy and super light. Nicely done. The arugula salads were good. Light lemon dressing. The insalata mista wasn't bad. The tiramisu was quite good. We all shared it since we were all stuffed but wanted a cake slice to put a candle on. I had high hopes for Gaudino's after hearing so many wonderful things and Italian is my absolute go-to for going out to eat but unfortunately I was completely underwhelmed. I will say, the ambiance is beautiful and I liked the dim lighting. Their market looks great with a variety of cold cuts, salads, pastas and other pantry items. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan. The food is delicious, but the portions are ridiculously small. We ordered two appetizers to share, plus our meals and dessert and I didn't feel full. I wasn't even that hungry to begin with but the portions were very sparse especially for the price-point. I have never left an Italian restaurant without feeling stuffed or having leftovers. The service was another big turnoff, as we felt rushed and our server was not very friendly/cheerful and it really seemed like she did not want to be there that Friday night. We had a 7:30p reservation, they closed at 9, and there were only a couple other tables while we were there. A young busser kept constantly coming over asking to clear our plates when there was clearly food left on it. I appreciate the efforts but it was excessive, every couple of minutes. Very off experience and I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

I hate to drop this reference, but I went to Rome last year, before the world shut down. Who am I kidding: I *love* saying that. Since I have no idea how long it will be before I can go back, it's nice to know that I have a little slice of Italy not far from my house. One advantage they have over Italy is that you don't have to go to several shops to find what you're looking for. Another advantage is that everybody here speaks English. There's no produce, but anything else you can imagine that's involved in Italian cooking can be found here. I couldn't find orichietta (ear shaped pasta) at fancy pants Nino Salvaggio's across the street, but they had two different brands here. They have truffle zest here: not truffle salt...truffle zest. The selection of cheeses is truly exquisite, but you do pay a premium for the quality. This is totally worth the price if you feel like something better than a standard block of Parmesan Reggiano that you might get at the supermarket. There are also some terrific prepared foods here. Again, you do pay a premium for what you get. The eggplant roulade is amazing, but will cost you three dollars for a small roll. You can also make a meal of your visit if you like. There was an excellent selection of wines to go with a variety of freshly prepared foods. I am looking forward to returning here on Sunday: they have brunch. read more

I could understand if they were busy but they are not usually open on Sundays and there was nobody else dining in. What a shame the food had potential to be great but we didn't get that far. I've been here like 10x with never actually dining in. I have no clue why this is. I don't frequent the area much and when I am around here I'm usually just thinking of grabbing a quick bite. The sandwiches are in top 3 for metro-Detroit. They're incredible. The cannolis are absolutely divine. I love the atmosphere and concept of this place so much. I never give 5 stars but Gaudino's is the exception to my rule. Everything and I mean everything was top shelf. Service was great, from the point I made reservations to encounters with: Host, Bus and Waitstaff. All were bright, helpful and enthusiastic. They all seemed to really like their job. The food offered on the menu was varied and interesting. Our meals were fresh, well prepared and appetizing both physically and visually. The timing between courses was excellent. All things considered, the prices were very reasonable. The decor was interesting, a restaurant inside a deli and the customers (20s - 70s) seemed to be regulars. I just can't say enough good things about Gaudino's it was such a great experience. read more

I was in the area visiting family and we decided to meet for dinner at Gaudoinos. Overall, I would say it was pretty good...here is what I especially liked: - Cool Italian market-in-a-restaurant vibe; but, we were there around 5pm on a Wednesday and it was packed so plan ahead. - Nice broad menu...lots to choose from. I was the only one drinking and found the wines-by-the-glass selection to be acceptable. - Food was good overall...we especially liked the Prosciutto & Mozzarella appetizer. The Pappardelle had about two scallops and two prawns, which was a bit skimpy from my perspective. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente though. Bottom line: Nice location for an Italian meal...not the most spectacular Italian food I've ever had, but completely solid. And, the ambiance was a plus, especially for the area. read more

My husband and I ate here last weekend. I wish we hadn't waited so long to try this place! Everything we had was amazing. We started with the charcuterie board (very nicely done with a nice size portion of meats and cheese, especially compared to other establishments that can be quite stingy) and the meatballs (which were wonderful!). I had the porcellino pasta (omg, I cannot wait to have it again) and my husband had the carbonara, which he loved. The interior is quite interesting. There is a deli counter, cold salads, and cheeses in showcases, along with dried pastas and other dry goods located in the center of the restaurant and along the wall. Then there are guest tables and a long shared high-top table around the exterior. It sounds strange but it somehow works and makes it feel like a quaint, neighborhood restaurant.
