My nephew was just beginning his adjustment process, and instead of receiving understanding, patience, and support, the school decided that he could no longer continue. I believe this demonstrates a lack of empathy and true inclusion. If a school is not prepared to support and accommodate a child who may need a little more understanding, it should be honest with families from the beginning, rather than accepting a child and then turning him away when challenges arise. I hope other families learn about our experience before making their decision. Every child deserves to feel accepted, respected, and safe in the place where they go to learn.

I'm convinced it's the schooling - when they join kids from their classes and mix outside the school, they work together, share, play quietly, talk, care about others. The teachers and staff are amazing, make themselves available, and engage well with the parents and children.

Ms Stephanie gives wonderful updates at the end of the day and lets me know if there is anything I should be concerned of (changes in feeding habits or diaper issues). I went in one day to pick her up early and was pleasantly surprised to find her hugging Ms Luz on the playground singing and talking happily with her. Ms Luz also redoes her hair (much better than I do) basically every day. My older one warmed up a lot faster and he has matured a lot since being there. He shares better at home with his sister and he is using the potty now!! Ms Kathleen, Ms Sonia and Ms Amber at the front are warm, caring people who take the time to help out with any administrative questions or kid related ones. They know their students and parents and don't make me feel like "just another mom" dropping off and picking up. I was nervous about starting my kids at daycare since we always had family caring for them before, but I truly feel like this is a family oriented center.

My daughter is starting her sophomore year, and we've been very happy with the school so far. She's been involved in a mix of extracurricular activities, and I've loved seeing her discover new interests while building confidence along the way. Western offers so many ways for students to get involved that it's easy to find something that's a good fit. Academically, Western has exceeded my expectations. The AICE program is challenging, and students are encouraged to push themselves while receiving the support they need to be successful. The preparation for AICE exams has been outstanding, which is a tremendous advantage for families looking for a rigorous academic experience in a public high school. The variety of advanced courses also gives students the opportunity to prepare for college in a meaningful way. I've also been impressed by the teachers, coaches and administrators. It's clear they want students to succeed, and they do a nice job recognizing accomplishments and creating a positive school environment. Every student's experience will be different, but if you're looking for a public high school with strong academics, plenty of opportunities outside the classroom and a community that encourages students to grow, Western is definitely worth considering.
