My daughter is starting her sophomore year, and we've been very happy with the school so far. She's been involved in a mix of extracurricular activities, and I've loved seeing her discover new interests while building confidence along the way. Western offers so many ways for students to get involved that it's easy to find something that's a good fit. Academically, Western has exceeded my expectations. The AICE program is challenging, and students are encouraged to push themselves while receiving the support they need to be successful. The preparation for AICE exams has been outstanding, which is a tremendous advantage for families looking for a rigorous academic experience in a public high school. The variety of advanced courses also gives students the opportunity to prepare for college in a meaningful way. I've also been impressed by the teachers, coaches and administrators. It's clear they want students to succeed, and they do a nice job recognizing accomplishments and creating a positive school environment. One time, I saw him try to hit a student behind him with a chair. Something I heard that was he was raising up grades to whoever hits a specific student ( a student who has him's words. ) Let's move on to Mr. Magallon ( 6th-7th ELA). Mr. Magallon has a lot of favoritism. If you try to help someone with the work, he will kick you out the class, however, when his favorite speaks during a test or an important assignment, he ignores it, and still gives the student special treatment. If you ask a student who has/had him what they learnt newly in his class, they will have nothing to say, unless they are behind in ELA. Lastly, Ms. Parker (speech and debate teacher and creative writing teacher) sucks at ending argument, one of the students was saying stuff like "you're a man, you will never be a woman" and also "you're gay" as an insult, all she said was "that's not appropriate." However, when the kid defends himself, suddenly he is being punished more than the rude student. Administration time. Ms. Vil ( sorry if this is spelt wrong. ) is very bad at her job. She is a counselor for the school, she is extremely rude and when a two-person conflict happens, she will only listen to one side. Now, ms. Erie, she is also a counselor, she is not good for people with anxiety, all she does is make me more anxious, you can also see when other students (specifically quiet ones ) are around her, they are also anxious, her guidance is not great. Her guidance is like "guide yourself." Ms. Johnkins, one of the vice principals, who your kid would most likely see at lunch, will not stop screaming on the microphone at everytime she has one. She is also quick to yell, without fully processing what actually happened or listening to the student's side of the story, it's a big headache, even when I never had her yell at me before. The bus administration is extremely ridiculous, they expect you to know something when they have never talked about it before, then proceed to yell at you. No, I'm not gonna get hit by the bus because I'm walking (not even near it ) on the side towards it while it drives for 2 seconds to stop. Honorable mention to Mr. Yao though, he is a great teacher, he teaches 6th grade earth/space science, l learnt so much in his class and he makes learning interested (1 always liked science and math though, ) but he definitely made the science lessons seem interesting.

They find ways to teach that are creative & engage kids because they are having a good time. This is not your average education but rather a living breathing education-full of excitement. The headmaster is a graduate of Waldorf (Steiner) school & has brought the excellence of that education to her program. You won't find ANYTHING else like this in South Florida. Also, it is a private school and education of this quality cost money. What better investment is there though really? However, I should mention that that do have tuition assistance and will also help you look for any scholarships that you may qualify for so, don't let the fact that you have to pay tuition deter you from at least checking it out. Where there is a will there is a way. If every child were given a healthy place to grow and learn like this, the world would be a much better place. Heck! We should ALL be seen, honored and celebrated the way students are at this school! It is located in the Jewish Community Center however, it is NOT a religious school BUT it IS a 'spiritual' school in that the students are taught to care for one another, the greater community, the planet and environment and THEMSELVES. This being said, it is NOT some 'Hippy' school. It is a serious program and a lot is offered and expected from the students academically. I would say the classes are more akin to an undergraduate program at a good university. They are certainly far more challenging than a regular high school-private or public. The students are expected to research & write at a college level (They are WELL taught and guided to be able to do so). They all take Latin, do community service as well as internships in fields of their own interest. They research utilizing real scientific publications and are taught to properly use them. This is an exceptional college preparatory program. Upon graduation they should be able to coast on auto-pilot through an undergraduate degree. There is also a STRONG sense of community. No high school 'Clicks'. No one's excluded, there is NO bullying or teasing-PERIOD. All of these 'details' are paid close attention to by the staff. I could go on and on but , see for yourself. The headmaster's name is Wendy Weiner and she welcomes visitors. Mrs. Weiner is an exceptional human being. When she felt that South Florida was lacking an acceptable school for her two lovely daughters to attend--she OPENED her own school! Wow. That alone speaks volumes about her but she is also a warm, kind woman. She's strong and capable in a way that inspires others just through her presence. Her children are both amazing young women and demonstrate what an awe-inspiring mother Wendy is. Her eldest daughter is now attending college where she is a member of a co-ed 'Community Service' Fraternity. Clearly she is following in her parents footsteps and giving back to others. Mr. Weiner has also played an essential part in bringing Conservatory Prep to fruition. He is a warmhearted, friendly and earnest man. He works with sincerity and I swear the man has stealth skills! His modesty and humble way of keeping all the wheels in motion is admirable. A husband and wife team adds to the feeling of community that is rarely found anymore and set's a positive example for the children of a loving, intact marriage. Every detail in this tiny school has been considered and achieved. The students, faculty and parents/guardians form a community that touches my heart and feels more like an extended family than simply an institution of learning.
