The technician came out, claimed we needed to replace two different parts (one being the pressure regulator) that were roughly $1,000 each, gave us a quote for multiple options of replacing the entire unit ranging from $4K to 8k (for a tankless heater instead), and then left without restoring the hot water. The next day I had to pay a plumber from another company to come out, and he cleaned the components (the true cause of the pilot light not staying lit), restored the hot water in minutes, and DID NOT insist that I had to replace the pressure regulator first. Brown Heating is NOT family owned as some early reviews suggest and they will gouge you. A quick internet search revealed that the quote they gave me included a 250% mark-up on the price of a new unit (which did not include the price of installation... another $3,300). The office manager just shrugged and called this "set pricing." Bottom line: they left without resolving the problem and only offered me solutions that cost thousands of dollars. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

They came out and diagnosed an air conditionet problem that cost 1,160 dollars. I paid them. The unit seemed to work after they left. They said they would come back to make sure it was working but never did. Ten days later it quit working again they came out again. They tore up a lot of duct work to get to the motor that they said was not working. I looked up the part and it was normally around 300 to 500 dollars. They left and called back later and said now I had to pay 2,200 dollars to fix it. I was livid. Ten days before they charged 1,160 to fix it and now say it is 2,200 more to fix it again. Never acknowledging they misdiagnosed and charged me 1,160 dollars for nothing. Well I called Another company for a second opinion. I called Integrity Air HVAC. Guess what, It was the motor all along, but Integrity only charged me 850 dollars. That included new duct work that 3D had torn up with their ham fisted diagnostics the day before. Integrity fixed it all and it has worked great since.

After researching the part online, I found the replacement cartridge available for less than $75. It appears to be a 30-minute job. I asked the supervisor for a breakdown of the cost between labor and material. He said that they don't give a breakdown. They appear to be hiding their labor cost, which seems to be very high. I wouldn't let the technician do the job and pay an $80 fee for the visit.

About 20 minutes later, he returned with a legal pad and handed me a quote: approximately $1,700. The estimate included installation of shutoff valves in the basement -- completely unrelated to the original problem. Naturally, I declined and asked if he was going to address the leaking faucet, since that was the purpose of my call and I needed to resume my day. His response? "That's my quote. That's what I see needs to be done." At that point, I politely asked him to leave. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I was furious -- not only did he refuse to address the issue I called about, but he did so with an arrogant tone. I will never use Standard Heating, Cooling & Plumbing again, and I'll make sure others are equally informed. And yes, I still had to pay the $80.00 visit fee, despite the fact that he tried to inflate a minor repair into a major project I didn't ask for or need. I couldn't help but think: if I were a senior citizen, he might've had a field day. That's unacceptable.

The young man who came to the house was punctual, polite and professional. Unfortunately that's where the good things stop. Our vent hood blower is on the roof and despite claiming to have checked the motor, he never went to the roof. I suggested that the problem could be the startup capacitor on the blower and he didn't check it. Instead, after knocking around in our kitchen for the better part of an hour, he tells me that the problem can't be fixed and that the parts for our 17 yr old vent hood aren't available. He searched online, talked to Viking and there was no way to fix it and there was nothing he could do. He said even if he could fix it, it would be around $900. He collected $115 and left. That just didn't make any sense to me. I'm reasonably handy and I went on the roof and quickly found the problem. Sure enough, the startup capacitor was bad and despite Service Care's claim that parts weren't available and my unit was beyond repair, Amazon delivered the $10 part the next day and I installed it in about 5 minutes. $10. And I thought: Yes, the towels are taking forever to dry. So I snapped a picture of the telephone number on the truck and contacted Kirby DVC later that day. I spoke with the Owner and we made arrangements to have the dryer vent cleaned ASAP. Even though I've faithfully cleaned the dryer filter in the dryer, the vent leading off the house was kinda almost full. So, the Technician vacuumed out the dryer plus he thoroughly cleaned the vent. First of all, Praise God for His protection, AND secondly, I'm grateful for the nice gentlemen with Kirby DVC, because everything's working very well now.
