This place is a hidden gem. Actually it's not hidden it's pretty easy to get to on route 38 in Mount Laurel. I went because I was looking for some crystals for positive energy and they have an abundant selection. But they've got other lots of really cool stuff like rocks, shells, and other gifts from the earth. They also repair jewelry I will make you jewelry from an item you bring in or one of the items they have in the store. The staff was friendly and greeted me instantly and answered my questions quickly. This week great place for kids to go and very cool to check out. read more

This is a review for some exceptional repair work. I had a Navajo turquoise bracelet that kept trying to lose a stone. The first time it popped out, I thought I managed to get it back in. The second time it popped free I would have taken it to a jeweler, but the pandemic had forced everything closed. I should have waited, but I decided to try to repair it myself one more time. And while I did pin the stone without breaking it, I mangled the bezel. I was so heartbroken and defeated. When I could finally visit my local jeweler, I was disappointed to learn that he wasn't comfortable working with it because stones were lifted in the bezel. He admitted he'd end up using jeweler's glue, which probably wouldn't work out well because of the padding. Thankfully, he recommended Gary. I was still nervous about handing the bracelet over because I had wedged the stone, and it was one of the middle stones in a row, so there were other stones to tippy-toe around. But Gary put my fears to rest and told me that I would get the bracelet back looking like new again. He said that he had over 30 years of experience, and after this repair job, I completely believe in his abilities. I DID get the bracelet back looking like new again. Gary even checked the other stones for looseness and I swear he tightened those bezels as well, because I used to feel a tiny movement when I ran my fingers along the stones. Now they all feel solid. As far as I'm concerned, Gary knows what he's doing and I would let him fix anything. The price he charged was very reasonable. If you need repair work done to a silver piece or even a Native American piece like mine, Gary is your guy! He's got my business going forward. read more

I drove to this store figuring Gary was very knowledgable and would be able to assist in confirming what stone was used in a vintage necklace I was recently gifted. I went in and was greeted by a young girl and explained I was hoping to have someone look at my necklace and tell me what it was. she asked if i was interested in a $5 Identification which I responded does it guarentee was the stone is. No lol just what they THINK it is. umm i can tell you what i think it is as well and ill save my $5 and the possible impulsive purchase while there. I will continue to drive by this establishment. I had a great experience here! I spent about an hour just checking out all of their inventory and admiring everything. There is still a ton more I didn't have time to check out. I picked up a bunch of lovely stones and I will definitely be back to get more. Prices were super reasonable and it's always great to support local businesses. It seems Gary has been in business for years and he really knows what he's doing. Very pleased with a repair that Gary did for me. Pleased with repair and thought the cost of the repair was very fair. I have an older pair of hanging costume jewelry earrings that I love. They had many tiny gemstones that had been lost over the years to the point where I either had to have those stones replaced or I had to stop wearing the earrings. I took them to several jewelers to see if the stones could be replaced. Everyone I spoke to told me it would cost hundreds of dollars to replace these stones and that it was not worth doing. Just before I tossed the earrings out I remembered that someone had told me about Gary's Gem Garden and that he did jewelry repair. Not only did he do a beautiful job on the repair but he seemed to be genuniely pleased that he found the exact match in color and shape for all of the missing gemstones. If you have kids who love fossils, rocks, and minerals, you should totally take them to Gary's Gem Garden! We have 2 boys and every time we go, it's like a field trip (we can easily spend an hour there). Make sure to look through all of the pull out drawers located in the very back of the store (hidden and easily dismissed otherwise). Every mineral, every rock is so unique, so beautiful! Instead of jewelry for special occasions, I prefer rocks! Okay so Gary at times can be socially awkward (addressing this since reading this is an issue in previous posts) but we are all quirky in our own little ways and I could easily look past that, especially since the rock shop is just that amazing. read more

Gary's Gem Garden has many interesting jewelry pieces. We probably visited this location about 10 times and always had a great customer service experience except during our last visit, which I made sure will be our forever last. My mom was about to spend over 1k on diamond earrings. She was prepared because she has been eyeing this pair for a long time. She has worked really hard to save up for it. Upon arrival we were greeted by a girl then asked for help. She said that someone will be with us shortly. Then a man approached us who was Gary, the owner. He was extremely mean and looked down on us. I immediately told my mom to leave and spend her hard earned money else where. Such a shame because if he wasn't so rude he would have gained more money. I have been meaning to write a review of Gary's Gem Garden for a few years now. I would like to clarify a few things, especially in response to what to expect when you go there: I am a rock hound as well as loving the metaphysical aspects of gems and crystals. Gary's store is NOT a metaphysical store. He does NOT specialize in that aspect of crystals and only has the books there for those of us who do or those who are looking for information about the crystals. So don't ask!! He is a rock hound and that is why the store is laid out like someone said like a "classroom". Around Gary's personality, he has a very brusk/curt (some say rude ;) ) manner and if you are going there for a warm and fuzzy feeling from the owner you will not get that!! That being said I LOVE Gary and have been a customer for over 10 years. If you are a rock hound and want to know about that aspect of stones, gems, and fossils this is your place. he has all the tools you need to hunt, and process your goodies. On all of his gems, crystals, and minerals he has cards that tell you the name of the stone/gem/crustal and where it was from regarding the Country. If you are looking for gems and crystals for metaphysical purposes and know what you want this is the place. If you aren't as knowledgeable look up what gems or crystals you want before hand and he will most likely have them especially as tumbled stones. The good things with him not being a metaphysical store is that he doesn't jack up the prices cashing in on that aspect of the gems/crystals. This makes his store a great find because you can find many crystals in their natural (non colored/irradiated), natural faceted state. This is an important thing as many shops will have enhanced stones or crystals and either don't know or pass them on to customers knowingly and don't reveal that unless you ask. I have found some really rare quartz crystal habits that I have not found anywhere else. I had to write this review because he is the only game in town as far as I am concerned either here or in Philly with all the selection and range of crystals and gems you could ever want. I have had to stop myself from going there because I have literally spent hours shopping and laugh with him about having a "rock addiction"!! I can not speak to his abilities as a jeweler, as I have not had him make/fix and pieces for me. I did have him years ago re-facet a beautiful quartz crystal I have which I broke the tip off. (I bought it somewhere else). it took a while to get it back and it was expensive but so was the piece. it was worth it to me and he was upfront with the fact that is not usually the type of repairs he does. DO NOT go if you want Gary to be warm and fuzzy and are expecting a metaphysical store. DO go if you want to have the best selection all around of any gem/mineral/crystal you could want at prices from dirt cheap to high as heck but well worth it. I have been a customer of Gary's Gem Garden since moving to Cherry Hill 47 yrs ago. I have purchased items and had jewelry redesigned and have been more than satisfied. Prices may have been a tad high but the workmanship was superb. I recently took a 20 inch chain in to have 4 inches removed so that I might give it to a young niece for her First Communion. The chain was gold overlay. When I went to pick up chain I was given the bill that was totally EXCESSIVE for what I had him do. He claimed that because he had to reclad the chain that was his cost. I could have bought a 16 inch gold chain for just a few dollars more. My point being, don't leave any items to be repaired until he gives you the cost up front. Had I known his charge for my chain I would just have purchased a new one. read more

If you're looking for friendly and chatty service, don't bother coming here. However, this store is great for all your gem and mineral needs. They have wonderful specimens of minerals, fossils and pottery. They also have more decorative pieces like bowls, boxes and coasters. They have a large variety of gemstones and diamonds that they will custom make jewelry for you. The selection of geodes is nice. But these seem to be less the chisel and hammer opening geodes and more the wet saw needed type geodes. I'm no expert, so maybe I'm just not doing something correctly. I wanted to add to my collection of gemstones, so having bought from GGG before I went back to see if anything interested me. Wow! Yes! So many wonderful items there to choose from. I've been in quite a few times this year and am really enjoying the stocked shelves... and the cabinets... and the drawers! You can't see all the goodness in one visit. GGG is family owned and operated. I've chatted with them about various things while shopping and they are nice, and knowledgeable. Also, Gary did a couple jewelry repairs for me so that will be helpful in the future for any items that might be in need. He makes custom pieces, too. Overall, I have to say this store is one of my favorites! Great selection, fair prices. I've taken a few people into the store and none left without finding something they liked. There's something here for anyone and everyone, whether you're a casual fan of pretty crystals or you're an avid collector of rare, unique dated finds from specialty collections around the U.S. There's even a whole section with artifact finds from local areas in NJ and PA, as well as drawer fulls of artifacts from the southwestern U.S. They also sell jewelry and offer custom jewelry making services as well as jewelry repair. Gary's work is always reliable and he's really good at what he does. He's the only one in the area that I trust with any kind of sensitive jewelry repair. This place is a little on the pricey side when it comes to their jewelry selection and custom services, but that's the only downside I've noticed in my 2 years of regularly coming here. read more

Every time I venture into Gary's, I have the same thought. How can a guy who is so bad with people have stayed in business this long? The answer is that in spite of Gary's aloof, sarcastic, and unpleasant demeanor, his store is excellent - chock full of great stones, fossils, jewelry, etc. But as an enthusiast I walk out of Gary's disappointed at not being able to engage the owner in simple conversation about his merchandise and about rock and fossil collecting generally. I should have learned that no such conversation is possible by now, but every time I try, Gary manages to put me off, either by making me feel stupid or by making me feel that I am wasting his time. I purchased a necklace here about two years ago. The craftsmanship was less than stellar and the pendant broke. I took it in and they were apologetic and acknowledged that their work hadn't held up. They happily took the necklace and said they would fix it right away. When I returned to pick it up they charged me as much as the necklace originally cost for the repair. Not only should they have fixed it for free because it was their bad craftsmanship and it was an extremely basic solder, but to charge me the original cost of the necklace for a simple repair of the metal suggests the stone has no value. When I said this, the sales child was incredibly rude and tried to defend the absurd pricing. This place will happily sell you sub-par items and rip you off to fix their bad work. I will not be returning and encourage other customers to shop elsewhere. read more

I recently stumbled on this place trying to find a piece of clear Quartz. Nice selection, but extremely over priced rocks. Staff were ok. They seemed somewhat knowledgable about the items for sale but I was directed to the crystal bible and other books to assist myself. The decor lacks reminds me of being in a classroom. Run dont walk.... AWAY from Garys. We were looking for a sapphire and a custom ring and had called last week, to hear that Garys does custom jewelry. Great! When we walked in, we werent greeted and the store is less than pristine. Looking at some gemstones, the sales person called for Gary to come out because 'he knows more about gems'. Gary is rude, crude and is just a miserable person. When I asked about white sapphires he said- 'so you want to get engaged and fool everything by thinking you have a big ring?' I promptly answered no, we are buying what we can afford. Who says that to a customer about to spend thousands on a custom ring? He also told me what I was looking for doesnt exist in catalogs and not to expect much, but he'll call me next week and see what he can find. No thanks Gary, I wont be taking your call. I visited this store with my 8 y,o. son who is very interested in rocks and gems. Staff member Emily was wonderful with him--kind, patient, and thoughtful, giving him good suggestions for keeping within his budget and explaining why things had different prices. The large and diverse inventory meant that he had a lot of options for his budget and goals (which, at his age, are largely "is this cool looking?"). He was very happy with the experience and his purchases, and we are looking forward to our next trip. read more

Ok I'm a metaphysician at heart and I use crystals all the time in my spiritual work. This place is the epitome of heaven for someone like me. My normal shop was closed this week and i needed Crystals badly so I drove almost 1 hours and 30 minutes to get here and it's insane what I was able to get for dirt cheap rates and the variability is one to no other that you will never find in most places. I loved it. It's far for me but if I ever wanted to get bulk of stuff I know where to go. People should understand that these rocks tend to be expensive regardless of where you go so if you live in South Jersey don't sleep on this place. It's worse upstate and needed NYC where you get charged double. The best around the North is Rockys in Montclair where the prices are comparable Gary's isn't a metaphysics shop so don't expect the same knowledge and understanding of rocks here. Atrocious jeweler. Only bring your jewelry to be repaired here if you want it ruined. I brought an expensive gold plated necklace here to have a broken chain link repaired. Gary informed the repair would need to be replated and I agreed. The first time I picked the necklace up the center charm (long gold bar with small diamond) was scratched and discolored. It was immediately sent back to be corrected. When I picked up the second time the necklace looked great and I was very pleased. However, within ten days of wearing the necklace the gold completely wore off. It was completely silver. The necklace is completely ruined. When I returned to Gary's he refused to honor a refund for the completely ruined necklace claiming work was done, a refund is impossible, it must be defective material that was used yet somehow that is not his fault. Exceptionally terrible store. Bring your valuables here at your own risk. read more
