Today, I had an entirely different experience not worthy of any stars. I had waited two weeks to get an 8:30 appointment, because I wanted to go before work (I made arrangements with my boss to come in a little late). I filled out the paperwork ahead of time, so I was all ready to go when I walked in at 8:25. I went to the desk and signed in. Nobody on the staff acknowledged me in any way, although they did see me. I stood there with my paperwork for a few minutes, but eventually just sat down. I waited until 20 minutes after my appointment (that would be 8:50). During this time, nobody had acknowledged me (nor the other patient who came in after me), nobody asked for my paperwork, nobody took my insurance card. Nobody spoke to me or acknowledged my existence in any way. At 8:50, I approached the desk and said, "Excuse me. I have an 8:30 appointment and it looks like it's not happening. I need to leave." One of the girls glanced up and said, "Oh the doctor isn't here yet." (Gosh, don't you think that's something you would communicate to the patient?) "He's probably still doing his rounds at the hospital." That's all well and good, and I understand that things happen and doctors are delayed. But usually there is some communication with the patient in these instances. And it still didn't explain why they hadn't gotten started on my paperwork, taken my insurance card or, I don't know, even said hello to me, 20 minutes past my appointment time. Needless to say, I left. I'm now at work looking for a new urologist. I haven't experienced a doctor's office this poorly run since, well, ever.

My Friend (AA)has been through multiple surgeon consults, he somehow found Dr. Lake and immediately after his first consult with Dr. Lake he turned to me and said " thats my fucking surgeon" Dr.Lake not only exemplifies amazing bed side manner( and I say that as a healthcare professional myself) he never gives up he always continously guides the most resistant patients( due to past bad experiences with other surgeons) and he does it with such calmness charm and finesse. HE IS THE DEFINITION OF A PROFESSIONAL. He actually cares. My friend got his surgery done on MediCal for christ sake, and the level of care was emaculate. My friends surgery was 9 hours and after the surgery you would think the surgeon would be tired or just wants to give you the news and get out of there, nope this man was smiling sat with us and joked and comforted us- true professional and good human in every senses. The nurses also at valley cedar sinai will tell you the same. He knows how to get the most apprehensive resistant patients to comply. Thats an art they dont teach in med school, you either have it or you dont. I could go on and on, all I will say is Dr. Lake we are so blessed to have found you and thank you so much for all you deligence and hard work, we are forever grateful!!! My father had begun to suffer with the symptoms of vascular-dementia, this greatley complicated any extensive urological diagnostic procedures as well as the outlook for potential treatment. My father had at this time extreme difficulty to urinate he had a suprapubic catheter placed by another physician to mitigate the urine retention. The catheter exacerbated my fathers dementia. Clearly God blessed my father with the professional consideration of Dr. Dula, by that time we were near the end of hope. It had seemed that the accepted industry standard was to simply refuse to offer or make available procedures that could potentially alleviate the need for any catheter altogether. Clearly and obviously i can say that without any arrogance Doctor Dula, endowed with confidence enough from his own experience and prior success, he humbly offred to employ his sirgical skill. His office staff first did necessary testing to understand the potential usefulness or relevance of surgery to help my father. He did perform excellent and phenomenaly beneficial surgery. I write all of this several months after the passing of my dear father (84 years). I did personally accompany and trivialy assist my father at his appointments and during testing procedure. This review is belated, it is appropriate and commensurate with thr fine care recieved. Borrowing and applying analogy to jewelry profession, i want myself to say somewhat less humbly that i have an eye for noticing those things which we hold to be precious and are regarded as gems. When considiring other urologists who declined to consider or offer care to my ailing father, Doctor Dula should be regarded as exemplary in his profession as he is certainly more than a precious gem among stones. Also happy that the practice is thriving. They recently went through a major remodel / expansion of their office space here in West Hills. Now they have more exam rooms to provide for patient care, plus a larger waiting room. The nurses and front office staff members are universally kind and caring in our experience. Arranging appointments is easy to do. They have a patient portal for accessing medical records / testing results. Dr. Shaye provides medical expertise in a manner that makes us feel confident in his advice. Our last check up went very well and I had a spring in my step when leaving the office. Between Dr. Shaye, Dolly, and the scheduler, we were well cared for in a timely fashion, even late in the day. I barely felt the blood draw and had zero bruising. Wow! The words "care and caring" keep coming up in this review because they are absolutely the right way to describe the experience of being seen at this medical practice.

I called his offices and Christina heard the desperation in my voice and scheduled me in. A catheter was immediately inserted which saved me. Dr. Bellman began treating me for an enlarged prostate and eventually it was evident that I needed something more all encompassing and permanent. Dr. Bellman performed a "Rezum" procedure that changed everything. I was finally free of constant discomfort every day with poor flow. I finally felt "normal" which can make quite a difference regarding a persons quality of life. Fast forward four years. I moved from Woodland Hills to Maui, Hawaii. I was there a short time when I suddenly developed extreme pain in my urethra. It persisted for a week and then two. I called every urologist on the island and none wanted to see me. They just said to go to the emergency hospital. As the pain intensified, I finally called Dr. Bellman's office, and as before, Christina told me to come in. I got on the next plane and saw Dr. Bellman the next day. He immediately began a series of tests and ruled out a number of possible causes that really scared me. He then prescribed antibiotics. He treated me for the next seven days while the antibiotics took affect and prescribed medicines for me to take back to Hawaii. I fully recovered. Dr. Bellman is a knowledgeable, caring and compassionate man who is willing to take the time to help those in need. His staff is always courteous, kind and professional. But here's where the problem lies. He went on a month long vacation right after my last surgery and my staples stayed in for 3 weeks which were red and painful. Another doctor gave me an antibiotic that made me terribly sick with pain and diarhea and I had to stop it. He may be a good surgeon, but he has no bedside manner. He is always in a big hurry, doesn't want to answer your questions, and barks orders at you. While he was gone and I was suffering, he had no nurse in his office to help me. The only thing the receptionist said was she was sorry. You are on your own for aftercare and you should know this up front. When I had my staples removed, I was very nervous from all the pain and procedures I had endured with 13 days in the hospital and was trying to breathe slowly to calm me down. He barked at me twice to stop breathing because I was going to pass out. No I was not. If I stop breathing, I WILL pass out.
