Amazing! It's embarrassing yes... but I didn't know who to turn to. I ran over one of those reflector sticks.. because a car was pulled up too foward on a turn. Yet.. I was cutting it too close and ran over the reflector. It remained stuck under my car for days... which took me awhile to figure out . I called and explained my situation and the young man was super receptive and told me to bring it in and they would look. I embarrassingly brought it in, they put it up took it out within 15 minutes and didn't even charge me! I was relieved and obviously ready to pay something! Whatever you do...do not allow your college student or young female take their car to Garry's and deal with Dick (his full name is Richard). We had a very negative experience at Garry's Automotive in Boise, Idaho. We asked numerous times for the hourly rate, they would never give it to us, and when they finally did they charged more an hour than an actual certified Mercedes dealer! Then let's talk about the mark-up of the misdiagnosed part!! Napa, where they get their parts charged, 969.99 and they charged us1616.19. For the second part, they tried to pull the same shit and I had them order it from the Mercedes dealership for a 1/3 of the price they quoted us. Our bill was over 5,000 and took them 3 and 1/2 weeks to finish...which led to added expenses for our daughter to get to work, etc. For compensation, they gave her $60 in "Garry's Bucks" knowing she was moving states the moment she got her car back. Been going to Garrys since moving to Boise in 2014. Tired of getting ripped off from the Dealer, I decided to search for a locally owned mechanic who's honest, fair and competitive. We run our cars until they fall apart, maintain them religiously service them. We are a family of Toyotas, Lexis and Subaru. Garrys was recommended by a co-worker when my 2008 Subaru Outback with 190,000 miles needed its THIRD head gasket replaced. I took the Subaru to the dealer, and left even before getting a cup of free coffee. Next on deck was Garrys, who came in at $475 LESS than the dealer. The job was done in a day and the car ran better, smoother and quieter than the day I bought it-New. As this was our last Subaru (3 head gasket replacements was enough already), we are now driving Toyota products. Dependable but still, they need servicing and the occasional minor problem. Garrys does not disappoint. They take pictures, make solid recommendations, NEVER pressure you to buy something you do NOT need and offer prices which match your mortgage payments.We couldn't be happier when it comes to relying on Garrys!! read more

My daughter had her minivan towed to them and was given a quote for transmission repair for more than the value of the car. They suggested putting it on marketplace as a fixer upper. Talked to a competitor and was quoted less than half the price. Talked to Garrys twice before having it towed again and they never mentioned a diagnostic test would have to be paid before they released it. They turned away the tow truck over a $100 fee. I've spent plenty of money there before but never again. read more

I took my Subaru to Garry's to get an estimate to fix an oil leak. The lead mechanic/shop manager put it up on the hoist and showed me several places where the bottom of the engine was wet from oil (didn't learn anything new). The estimate to fix it was well over $5,000 to replace the head gaskets. Long story short... The oil was leaking from 2 oil pressure sensors on top of both heads. The cam sensors. The oil was leaking on top of the engine and then running down to drip off the bottom engine. The source of the oil leaks were not visible without removing some of the engine components on the top on the engine. The leak was repaired (in another shop) by replacing the 2 oil sensors on top of both heads. Head gaskets were not the issue. read more

TLDR: These guys saved us a bunch of money when they could have taken advantage of us. We'd never have known. I'm very impressed. We realized too late that our cars might not have antifreeze in them and the temp dropped well below freezing. We called and they squeezed our two cars in immediately. I was expecting them to just do a coolant flush/replacement, but they actually checked first and saw that was unnecessary. No charge. The mechanic provided a very clear and honest estimate of my car condition and suggested some required repairs but did not try to force me/scare me into making them. Brought my car in to get the rear brakes done. They never turned the rotors, very obvious that they hadn't, but I got charged for it. I brought it back in to show them this and the mechanic gave me a laundry list of excuses and would not refund the cost of the rotor resurface. They were much cheaper than any other shop, so you get what you pay for, but I will not come back here. Funny thing is while I was waiting in the waiting room for my turn to get helped, the mechanic was on the phone apologizing for something their shop made a mistake on and telling the caller to bring their car back in to get it remedied. 1st and foremost, these guys did a good job. They took care of my car for the right price which is why I went with them when I came back. I went back in after the first job, my car's engine light went on. They read the code, gave me some background info, and upon further investigation it seems like I just had a software fluke. In any normal circumstances I would go back, they took care of me. However, circumstances are not normal. As of the week of July 13, I was there bright and early right when they opened at 7:30. No one was wearing a mask. I thought, "Oh, it's early I probably just caught then with their masks off." When I went back in, in the afternoon, seemed like peak working environment. Still no masks. One worker came out to my car and read the code, no mask. Wearing a mask is a sign of respect for those around you. They showed that they lacked respect for me, I'll just have to find another car shop. read more

My Sprinter Van Engine decided became another victim of the Owyhee grade leaving Horsehoe bend Marsing area ... I called around and Garry's was the only game in town who would check it out. Cody who was go to POC as their service manager / writer / scheduler in short was very straight forward and said it would possibly a week or two before they could diagnose it. That said I headed to the airport and about get on the plane Cody called me stating it was already diagnosed and prognosis was DOA -- which we just needed verified. It took two weeks to find a transport company to pick it up from shop. Cody spent a lot of time, effort and no fees for diagnose it, no charge for storage, gave me motorcycle straps and strapped bike for me ....... I'd give them 6 stars if could and for the person who said fake review, that's sad you feel like that, I do not think they are. I've gone to Garry's Automotive for three years, and my family members have gone for roughly seven years. Garry, however, no longer owns Garry's Automotive, as the employees bought out the company from him over the past two years. Most of the mechanics, technicians, and staff are the same, but business has changed a bit. For starters, Garry's Automotive is always thorough with their inspections. In the past and even now, they are are always on point with providing insights about your vehicle. They always call about the recommended repairs and they discuss them with you. For this particular issue, they quoted me $2000 for my 2001 Toyota Camry, citing that the oil pan and oil gasket needed to be replaced because the oil leak was spewing into the axel and fanning out in a circular motion. They also cited that the fresh air intake hose was cracked and would need to be replaced. They recommended that the timing belt and water pump and differential fluid be replaced, resulting in the $2000 tab. While I understand the thoroughness of inspection and the cost of replacing these parts, I found it expensive for a car that is 17 years old, low milage (128,500~ miles), and had its timing belt replaced only 30,000 miles ago. After explaining this and that the cost was too much, especially for a teacher in Idaho, I asked Jared about doing the most essential repair of replacing the oil pan, oil pan gasket, and doing an oil change and doing the differential fluid and got a quote of $680, which also seemed a bit high. Ultimately, I agreed to only repair/replace the oil pan, oil pan gasket, and do an oil change, which resulted in $600. Again, still on the higher end. I then shopped around for quotes from other auto repair places here and found that other places were willing to do the same job for $300-450, which I decided was best. My car is now repaired and functional at a fraction of the quoted price from Garry's. The other part of this review pertains to their communication: First, they are friendly on the phone, but when you don't agree to a repair, there does seem to be a change in tone. Jared was kind in explaining that it was OK to take time to process the costs during our initial phone call, but when I called back and said I only wanted to do the most important repairs to me, the tone seemed less friendly. Perhaps this is just business, but when initially charging someone $2000, I think these sort of interactions should be expected and handled with greater sensitivity. I will not be returning to Garry's. While I have appreciated their service over the past three years, the cost and change in service is enough for me to look elsewhere. The service and investigative inspections are top notch, but if you are on a budget, I would recommend being cautious with their services as they are on the higher end. read more

I've had 2 major repairs done at Garry's, and I'm incredibly impressed with the level of service and care that every member of their team has shown us. From start to finish, I felt I was in great hands with people who were looking out for my vehicle and my family. They were upfront about diagnostic charges and gave very detailed accounts of what the damage was, what was most pressing to repair at the time, and what they recommended. Before any additional work was done, I received a call right away from Shanelle, who was very friendly, thorough, and patient with explaining what they had found. When my vehicle was ready, Jared (the owner) walked me through the repairs and gave a tutorial/explanation of how to better take care of my vehicle. They also have an awesome online system that's sets up a profile for your vehicle where you can sign on and look back on notes from prior visits, as well as keep tabs on mileage and recommended repairs. I appreciate this so much because it allows me to have information regarding my vehicle right at my fingertips. If you have more money than sense, this is the place for you, and you are the ideal customer for this place. I dropped my vehicle off there yesterday because it wasn't starting. They quoted me almost a grand for replacing the starter--said the headers on my truck would make it very difficult to get to the starter; would have to drop the front differential. Sounded like BS to me, so I took it to another shop. Not only did the guy at the second shop diagnose the problem as something simple and fix it on the spot for free, he informed me the headers would make it EASIER to get to the starter!!!! Don't go thinking the cokes and candy Gary's passes out are free--you're gonna pay for them. UPDATE: Okay--points to the owner for calling me personally after reading this review. He apologized, and refunded charges for the misdiagnosis (though his mechanics still maintain there's a problem with the starter . . . it has started fine every time now, however). The personal attention is rare, and it's probably how Gary's got its original (good) reputation. I sincerely hope his mechanics don't ruin it for him. read more

We have used Garry's for a long time. They have done brake jobs, did work on my husband's diesel truck and also standard maintenance and service. They are always reliable and stand behind their work. It is best to have an appointment set up since they are busy, but it is easy to schedule. They do have a waiting room if needed. We have not used any type of shuttle service they may have. My cousin came here a few days ago to get his check engine light read and was super impressed, so I decided to come by to get my maintenance light read. Trevor came out immediately while his coworker looked up how to reset the light. He went through the reset and all looked well, but he checked again be restarting the car and the light was still flashing. He checked the instructions and found a small detail missed and reset it and all is well. I appreciate his thoroughness and rapidity in helping me out. Both times I was told the truth - that they didn't actually need to be repaired - and I can't say enough how much I appreciate that honesty. I'd recently gotten an estimate on one of them from a dealership service center of $900, and not only would Garry's have charged a little over a third of that for the same repair, but they told me that the dealership's assertion that the issue was an emergency was untrue. Consumer BEWARE! Our 99 Jeep wrangler was dropped off here for an oil pan gasket replacement for leaking. A couple of hundred dollars later, it was supposed to be fixed. We brought it back TWO WEEKS later because there was still leaking. The mechanic said it was "residual oil" and that there was nothing to worry about. Well, at the exact time the warranty ran out, IT IS LEAKING and WORSE THAN BEFORE. Garry's will not do anything for me because the warranty has expired (by minutes when I contacted him) and I am SOL. Garry's is THE place to go for virtually any/all types of vehicle maintenance here in the Valley. I had an issue with my Explorer power seat. Took it to Ford; they charged $190 just to LOOK at it, then gave me an estimate of another $1400 to replace the seat motor. And, the part would not be available for 90-something days. Garry's folks took a look at it for me, then Trevor sourced a used, but serviceable motor locally. All said & done, saved me almost $1,000 and done in one day! Can't ask for better, quicker, more efficient service. And, Mike, the shuttle guy, is way cool also. You rock, folks! read more

From the very first phone call, everyone I spoke with was very friendly and helpful and made sure I was assisted in a timely manner. I was quoted fair pricing, and they always checked in before proceeding beyond what was quoted. After the car was finished, Shanell (Service Adviser) called me and talked to me about what she did and explained what was going on with the car. They were so great.. As far as pricing, I have compared the service/repair by going to the app repair pal and comparing it to their estimated price and I found they were fairly my priced...but for my own protection and to avoid the risk getting ripped off I will always do a price comparison before any repair is completed..... DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! Long review but worth it. I gave one star for effort but I had a terrible experience at Garry's. I took my car in because it was making a horrible noise, and after having a family member who rebuilds cars look at it and tell me he was pretty sure it was the transfer case. Garry's did a thorough inspection, which I do appreciate, and then called to tell me the total. I was quoted $5500 for everything that needed to be repaired. My car is 12 years old and not worth that much. I asked what was absolutely necessary and was given a price of $4400. Needless to say, I had to spend some time deciding what I wanted to do. Later that day, Aleks called to see what I wanted to do and told him I would need to leave it there overnight and then I would most likely have it towed the next day. Aleks then asked me what I planned to do with the car. I told him I wasn't sure yet but it wasn't worth repairing it at $4400. He continued to press and ask what I was going to do with it. He said that if I wanted to sell it he "knew someone" who would buy it for the price I would get if I took it to a scrap yard, which would be about $150! I told him I needed time to think about it and would let him know the next day. That evening, I called my family member and had him look at the inspection report and told him the guy had offered to buy it for $150. He was appalled and told me that a mechanic or someone who knew how to fix a car would easily purchase mine for $1500-$2000 even if was just sold for parts. He asked why they hadn't given me an itemized quote with pricing so that I knew how much each item cost and advised me about the fact that really the only necessary item on the list was replacing the transfer case. The rest could wait. Aleks had originally told me the part would be over $1000, but again, I was never given an actual price list. I began looking at auto parts stores online and noticing that they had transfer cases for my car at around $600. The following day, I emailed to inquire about the cost difference between the transfer case and ask how much it would cost for just the transfer case. I also asked for an itemized cost quote, broken down by item. At this point Aleks called me, even though I had specifically said I prefer contact via email. He told me it would be $2200 just for the transfer case and said he couldn't find the transfer case I was talking about on the Auto Zone website. However, at this point he told me he could put in a used transfer case that would not be under warranty and that it would cost $950 for that. Well, that is quite the difference between the original! Needless to say, I was ticked that this option wasn't presented to me up front. In fact, it seems like Aleks saw someone he could take advantage of. I just quoted a ridiculously high price and was discouraged and unsure about what to do and he offered to buy my car for $150! A car that was worth at least $1400 more than that, and as a mechanic, I'm sure he knew that! It very much seems like he wanted to buy the car for a low price and then make some good money off of it. I never actually received an official itemized quote. Instead, Aleks just sent me an email with a few things on the list and their price. One of those items was a transmission service, which he quoted me at $350! I called Einsteins and was told it would be $160. When I asked Aleks if they would match that price, he wouldn't give me a straight answer. In the end, I had them replace the transfer case with a used one. However,as stated previously, I was unhappy that they didn't present me with ALL options up front. It was only AFTER I pressed the issue and said I wasn't going to sell my car that they miraculously came up with a used one they could put in. The manager sent an email asking that if they didn't give 5 star service I let him know. So I did. I sent him a detailed email. He replied a few days later stating basically that they had done nothing wrong, that Aleks was simply trying to be helpful when he low balled me and that they had told me about the used part up front. Which is a lie, but since they refused to do anything via email and instead called (rather convenient, I think) I didn't have proof of it. So, be warned! Do NOT take your car to this place unless you want to be taken advantage of! They don't give itemized quotes, they try to take advantage of you, they don't give all of the information upfront and the manager doesn't even care that his employees are trying to take advantage of people. The next time I need work done, I'll be going somewhere else! read more

what a professional staff I will use these guys forever. Just moved to the area and have an intermittent problem with my starter..........they checked it all out couldn't find issue.....did a 10 point free safety check............and only bill was for $35 oil change. Trevor, Megyn, Jarad and Mike the shuttle drive (who wouldn't take a tip) were spectacular...............so my car is not perfect.......im not perfect....but the staff at Garrys is close to perfect....the all had such nice clean uniforms with name tags I thought I was going to pay a lot........And Trever had this fancy haircut....I was thinking.....am I going to have to pay for this service??? and Staff???
