Let me start by saying I have no experience with actual repairs at 27th street Automotive. I did however take my truck to them to have a diagnostic done to find out what potential issues I needed work done. I was told water pump had a leak which I was aware of. I was told I needed rear brakes which would be $1000.00. They also said I needed new lifters and cam shaft $8000.00 . I had my lifters and cam shaft done less than 30k miles ago and it is more likely that a single lifter needs replaced rather than what they questionably suggested. I paid $195.00 for the diagnostic and there wasnt even a breakdown in costs for suggested repairs they never actually did an inspection of the lifters. I also will mention that despite me being very clear with my instructions they almost went ahead with work I didn't approve. I did the brakes myself took 20 minutes and $64 dollars in break pads not really clear why they were going to charge $1000.00 .. My neighbor suggested I go here she had her brakes done cost her $1300 this is when I realized that this shops primary purpose is to make money obviously every business goal is to make money but I stir clear of places that are straight up taking advantage of people by overcharging for work they do. The suggested rebuild of lifters and cam shaft $8000 would be a comparable price if I actually needed a complete replacement done however this was not actually the case. I had an oil change that same day prior to having them do a diagnostic estimate and not metal was scene in my oil change. You would clearly notice metal in oil change if there was damage to the cam shaft from lifters. When I went to pick up the truck and mentioned that I had already had the lifters and cam shaft replaced less than 30k ago there was a bit of an awkward back tracking on what they supposedly diagnosised as the problem. I didn't go back to have any work done because they didn't actually seem to have my best interest in mind as a customer. My review is based on my experience that I would be way overcharged for work and that they didn't actually diagnosis the problem that I paid them to diagnosis. Absolutely would not trust them to do the work and am more than happy to compensate a shop for work done but not 27th Street Automotive. BUYER BEWARE!! read more

A friend recommended me this shop and it did not disappoint. Daniel was incredibly friendly on the phone and in person. He was very helpful in getting my car taken care of. They addressed my concern and even did a full inspection of the vehicle with pictures included to look at after. They broke down all costs and were fairly priced in comparison to dealership and other shop quotes. My car is running so much smoother and they were very quick with the repair. Don't waste your time. I had an appointment for a 2:30 PM diagnostic. On the day of the appointment, I received a text at 1:51 PM while on my way there that i had missed my oil change appointment. I never mentioned anything about an oil change. When I arrived at the location at 2:30 PM on Monday. The sign at the facility said they were closed. The staff inside said that they would have to keep my car over night and they usually schedule diagnostics for earlier in the day bc they only have one mechanic in the afternoon. I called and spoke with Trish who identified herself as a manager. Trish said that diagnostics must be dropped off in the morning and that my appointment only said that I would drop off the car in the afternoon. read more

AC System charge, Charged over $315 to charge the ac system on a 2016 Subaru crosstrek, which I thought was expensive but not outrageous. They didn't actually do the charge due to needing new o-rings, which they wanted another $165 to replace. For anyone unaware $165 to change an O ring on an ac line is literally a 5 - 15 minute job replacing a $3 part. Apparently $315 is what they charge just to look for a leak and doesn't cover actually doing anything other than confirming that yes the car brought in needing the AC recharged has a leak. Also tried tacking on another $1000 worth of completely unnecessary charges like, a fuel system flush, transmission system flush, coolant system service, $110 for cabin air filters, $35 to rotate the tires. The car had 65,000 mile maintenance done 3 months ago, cabin air filter is less than a month old, and the tires were rotated literally less than a week ago. Don't fall for this scam like I did. I took my car to a new mechanic for an early oil change to go on a trip. It needed front bushings, ball joints; a rear wheel has a 4 inch play so needs a knuckle assembly, things a bumper to bumper maintenance inspection would show. 27th St. Auto didn't find any wear in July, convinced me I needed a full tune up (something I had forgotten was done 4 months prior) and charged well over dealership prices. I could have been killed driving the car. read more

Even the women in the office are hugely knowledgeable! The prices can't be beat, and everything was done as promised. The one problem that cost them a star in this review is that they don't have anywhere to sit while you wait, and the closest coffee shop, Starbucks, is about 9 blocks away. An easy fix would be a heated tent -- they have plenty of room -- with coffee, a long table and chairs. I can't understand why the owners haven't fixed this problem, because I won't be going there to get anything fixed in the winter months. read more

It's hard moving to a new state and search for a good auto mechanic. I put the search off for six months dreading the process. I don't trust mechanics easily. So to begin with I scheduled a simple oil change as a test. Nothing too strenuous. They passed with flying colors! They told me if I came in at 8am I could have the first appointment and not have to wait as long. That was true. They are technology savvy, photographing parts of my car during their inspection and letting me know their thoughts on future maintenance. When I evaluate a mechanic shop I look for knowledge, ability to connect with me, a female consumer, and I look to see if they try to oversell me. Will they talk with a woman as a customer or treat me like "She's a female...She won't know anything about cars." Again they passed!!! They came across as honest, reliable, and tried to give me the best experience I could have as a new customer trying to find a reliable mechanic in Boise. They did not oversell the future maintenances as shown by the photos...evidenced by the words "I'm not worried about this particular issue at this time. But in the future you might want to consider having this repair done." It gives me time to plan for these repairs. I know they are valid as some of these maintenance issues have never been done during the previous seventeen years of care. I keep pretty close knowledge on what repairs have been done and what will need to be done in the future. I value this car and want it to be maintained for longevity sake. It's seventeen years old and still working great. After the oil change I was able to talk to the mechanic who they said changed the oil and ask a few questions about the oil during the oil change and other items of future maintenance. A seventeen year old car will need maintenance. Joaquin, the mechanic who worked on my car, was friendly, answered my questions seriously, and was knowledgable about my car from his work. I was impressed. Their findings match with the work/findings of my trusted mechanic from the state I came from and used with this car for sixteen years. I will continue to give my business to 27th Street Automotive in the future. I plan to update my review after I have the first of the suggested maintenance done. It's nice to be treated with respect when it comes to being a woman taking in a car for maintenance. read more

Our latest interactions were last week getting "pre-purchase inspection" for buying a used car. They saved us from making a big mistake on the first car. I have taken my cars here for years for service and Joaquin and his crew have always done a good job. Trisha has been great with scheduling and communication I recently took a one of our cars in for routine service and on inspection they found the oil looked fresh enough to keep going and they didn't charge me anything. Now you might say that I should have just checked that before I went in, but I was just taking in because it hadn't been serviced in six months. I would agree that in general their prices may be more than other shops, but they have always been good about giving reliable estimates before starting the work and they haven't pressured me when I've decided to put off the recommended work read more

I asked for a quote on a main bearing seal repair. They told me they did not want to give a quote unless I bring the car in and they degrease it, they wanted $170 for that! What a strange way to do business, feels like they try to take advantage of me. I know it is the rear main seal and even if I'm wrong, I would like to know what that repair is going to cost before I spend unnecessary money on degreasing the engine! Other shops gave me an estimate on that repair right away. They have lost their chance to have me as a customer! read more

I live very close to 27th Street Automotive and being new in town, I was looking for a reliable and fair auto shop nearby. I called and talked with Trisha. She is very helpful. I took my 73 Ford F250 in to have them look it over and tell me why the steering was so sloppy. My truck is considered a collector vehicle and with only 98,000 original miles on it, it's a pretty clean machine. Being pretty familiar with my truck I knew it was the power steering gear box or the steering column. So I dropped off my truck and had them diagnose the problem. I think it was the next day they got back to me and said it was the power steering gear box. They said they could do the repair but they really didn't know where to source the parts for a vintage truck so I asked would it be OK if I sourced the parts and they did the repair. They agreed. They also agreed to let me keep my truck there until the part came in. They not only kept my truck there but they parked inside the shop to keep it safe. I ordered the parts from a company called LMC Truck. They carry almost anything for older trucks. When it came in, I dropped off the new gear box and they made the repair. After going to Aamco and Tunetech (both also on State Street) and having to follow up their work and fix loose connections and loose bolts myself that their mechanics sloppily left undone, 27th Street Automotive is the best. These guys and ladies are awesome. Honest, efficient, and competent. I had a computer issue in my 2001 Dodge van, it was poorly serviced at another shop in Salmon (Quality Motors), and these people fixed it properly, faster, and for less money. I would never go anywhere else in Boise for auto repairs again. Trish, Brittany, and Joaquin are all good people. You can tell they really care and will do right by you. read more

I was originally quoted at around $1800 for a repair on my air conditioning. When I went to pick the car up I was informed my bill was around half. The mechanic was able to save me a ton of money. I'm sure most mechanics wouldn't be willing to do that for their customer. I will always come back to 27th for any of my car maintenance needs. This was honestly a dream experience for me. My AC went out last summer so I knew I needed to get it fixed. I'm SO HAPPY I CAME HERE. The first mechanic that I went to (in a completely different city) quoted me 1,200 dollars to fix my AC. I came here and they did a complete inspection and told me it would only be about 200 dollars to fix my problem! This business is awesome. They are honest, ethical, and are not just looking to make a quick buck. I am a lifelong customer and will be returning very soon to get my brakes fixed as well! I actually enjoyed my experience going to this automotive shop and will be back. The staff was super friendly and the process of dropping my vehicle off super painless. I have a 2001.5 Audi S4 and up until now have used the Audi Dealer but have heard through google reviews I should give this shop a shot and save some money at the same time. One of the biggest things I can say is "They are local" and money spent here is good for our local economy, their employees, and talent we can keep in our backyard versus a franchise box option in which there is seldom a personal touch. You will find coming here a welcoming experience. I used the night drop off option which was not only super secure to do but they have plenty of cameras and a well-lit space in which I felt like I would have no issues (I did not). They have an amazing workflow website they use in which they use to upload photos of what they find. With this initial inspection it identifies anything they find outside of what you might have come in for. This provided me a lens toward what to anticipate as far as future repairs and where my vehicle sits after their servicing. It's really neat when they take photos of what is wrong, or they noticed. In doing this it provides you with guidance on what is critical to take care of immediately and some more cosmetic items that can wait if budgeting is an issue. At no point was I under pressure to do anything outside of what was right for me and my budget. Their feedback allowed me to make a choice toward safety and overall longevity of what they reccomended. They found things that I had no idea about and I am grateful of their inspection at zero cost to me. When you get an inspection and see the level of detail of what they find, it's amazing and with photos you are not taking anyone's word for it. I felt them to be 100% honest and friendly to such an extent I am having my vehicle scheduled within the next week to repair fixes that they brought to my attention on my first visit and feel 100% certain in their capabilities. I called for quote on getting a pair of brake rotors turned, carried in, off the car. They quoted me $128. These can be purchased brand new, dealer stock, for $185 for the pair. Cost for turning rotors should be $10-$15. If they did not want the business, declining to quote would be preferable to a rip off price. It left a poor impression and based on that I would not consider them for future work or repairs. Driving by the place, they appear to stay busy. read more

I brought my car in for a battery problem. The issue was fixed and troubleshot appropriately. They also told me my timing belt was cracked, there was a major oil leak and we needed spark plugs. I was given a quote of $1000 to do a timing belt job because it was about to snap!!! "OMG what an emergency!" I thought to myself. I drove it home, looked at the car myself to confirm. Guess what I found? I found no oil leaks, the spark plugs were great and lo and behold my timing belt was recently done. The timing belt was not cracked, there was no emergency and it looks like it was done about 40k miles ago. 27th automotive was not up front to me about the service that needed to happen to my car. I would suggest to always get a second opinion considering the company is not as upfront as other reviews suggest. read more

Wow! I am in town just for the weekend, and my Oldsmobile started making a funny noise.. I searched Google and this place popped up. I came in early Saturday morning, to find they were closed. However the owner Joaquin happens to be there, but not open. I told him my car was making a funny noise and I was scared to drive home back to NV. He offered to take a quick look under the hood, didn't charge me a thing, gave me peace of mind. What a nice person, good honest service! read more
