I was a long time customer of Boise Foreign car service because of their honesty about what I did and didn't need to have done to my car. Then I moved to Colorado four years ago. I have taken my car to three shops for maintenance and oil changes and haven't been able to trust their recommendations... and feel I have been ripped off. Two places were visited in the last two months and they found different issues. One said all four brakes were worn down to 3mm. I didn't have them do the work, though. Because I was driving to Boise for vacation, I made an appointment with Boise Foreign Car Service. I even told them to replace the brakes. Tom called me to say that all my brakes had 60-65% remaining life on them!! He recommended NOT replacing them at this time. I highly recommend Boise Foreign Car Service. In February, I got a quote from Tom for a 60k service for my Honda CRV. Due to lack of driving, we didn't reach that mileage until Labor Day. We called to schedule the service mid-September. Fortunately, they were able to schedule us within two weeks. Boise Foreign Car Service has a secure parking lot. So, you can drop off your car during business hours the day before if you don't want to drive over in the morning. Tom and co. texted us by lunchtime that our Honda was ready to be picked up. Everything looked good. Our tires were a bit low, so they added the appropriate level of air. Tom and co. are so thorough. Tom is willing to review the work and explain as much detail as you're interested. I trust him implicitly. Tom was recommended to us in 2006. He maintained our former vehicle, a 2003 Subaru Forester, until we traded it in. We knew that when we were no longer under warranty with our Honda that we would resume our car service with Tom and co. FWIW, the original quote from February was honored. I had a refreshing experience today at Boise Foreign Car Service. I took my car in for an O2 sensor issue. My brake light was coming on intermittently as well. I asked them to take a look at my brake pads, just in case it was time to replace them. They called me an hour after I dropped it off, confirmed the O2 sensor suspicion and told me all I needed was a little brake fluid. I was prepared to replace the pads but they were honest (and amazing) and they earned my business. I'll definitely be using these guys in the future. Thank you SO much! read more

Tom went above and beyond by finding out that my daughter's Outback had engine work done before we bought the car at a dealership and therefore the needed repairs would still be under warranty. The extra homework he did saved us a ton of money and meant that he didn't get to do the very expensive repair in his shop. Every oil change appt. ended up being a min $300 deal. At BFCS, our maintenance bills are down to less than $100 / turn. Car is running great as well. These guys in Boise went the extra mile to save me money as best they could. The guy that helped me explained how I could save money, and was even proactive about warning me about additional charges. He was easy to talk to and didn't rush me. They may be a bit pricier than some alternatives. But, compare my experience BFCS with what I got at Meineke on State St. I was very careful in asking the guy at Meineke what my final bill would be, he reassured me, and yet he still tacked on a surprise $15 for "shop expenses" when it was time to pay, which he said included crap like rags. This family run business is very honest. the ladies at front desk were very welcoming. The guy listened to my requests and fixed my brake issue in an hour. He didn't even charge me for fixing the engine check light and the brake lights. Price was very reasonable. First he tried to work with the cables in the car, which were from a junkyard. He even said he would try to fabricate cables if needed. Fortunately I was able to find new replacement cables. I have lived pretty much all over the U.S. and rarely have found a car repair service as honest and capable as BFCS. I have a 2005 Highlander and they always seem to know exactly what's wrong and how to fix it. No runaround. No add-ons. They quote you a fair price and stick to it. The owner is one of the most knowledgeable car guys I have ever met. In fact, I had been told my coolant system was leaking and probably needed replacing by another service station. BFCS didn't hesitate to put the car up on the lift the minute I drove in. They did a thorough inspection and said there was nothing wrong. And they didn't charge for their considerable time. If you drive a foreign car, don't go anywhere else. And, no, I am not being paid for my review. I believe good people should be rewarded for their integrity. read more
