A couple of u-turns and I made it back to the driveway. This potter is living my dream, his home is right there, studio separate and I was wowed just parking! Tons of pottery yard art and the outside wall of his studio was lined with various pottery for sale. Inside there was another small space of retail packed with breathtaking art and his studio where he was working on various pieces. He had a work table with easily 50 hand built bud vases he was working on! On other shelves I could see wheel thrown steins. I was giddy admiring his work, he makes his own glazes and fires high temperatures and does some specialty firing too (I speak pottery because I am a student currently). I especially loved his crystalline glazed work- absolutely stunning pieces! And he had these clever monster mugs I seriously considered picking one- they were so unique and I adored them! I left with one stunning crystalline glazed mug and one beautiful teapot for under $100- and that's wonderful prices! Literally functional art. He was lovely to chat with too. Can't recommend enough if you love art and/or pottery to seek out this little studio! It is a great local gem!!!

If that is the case, then the store ought to post their hours accordingly. In other words, they close at 5:30.

I've been to the shop twice and have not been satisfied with the service I have received. The…read morefirst time I felt like the employees thought they were doing me a favor. They certainly charged me what they wanted since they are the only framing shop on the island. I thought maybe it was just a bad day but found the same poor attitude and service the second time I went into the store so I complained. I ended up taking my project to Anacortes instead. The store there was delightful, friendly and the energy was welcoming. Basic good business. Reflecting back, the work quality at Gene's Art & Frame was average at best and not worth the close to month long wait. They obviously get away with the bad behavior and act with impunity. Gene's make you sign a legal document saying they charge a 50% nonrefundable deposit. You must pick your project up in 30 days and at 60 they aren't responsible for it. If they damage your art they aren't responsible for more than $500 in damages. If a framer does good work the customers want to pick their art up and you don't need to force them to sign a shady legal document. Law 101 you can't disclaim liability Gene's. I hope you can avoid the frustration and disrespect I felt at Gene's. It's simply not worth it.

The flatbread was nice and crispy with a good flavor for something pre-made and just needed to be heated. But the highlight of my visit was the Autumn Heat tea. The "Heat" refers to the spice level (one of the ingredients is Hot Honey), you can choose for it to be served hot or cold. I chose to have it served hot. I really enjoy spicy food and drinks. This tea was very spicy! If you enjoy spicy foods you should give this one a try. Otherwise, I recommend you pass on this one! As normal, the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable about what they sell, and polite. Always a pleasure to shop at The Book Rack.

The bookstore had a dining area, games to stay and play, a discount section, mini events area, just so much not including the books and it was so cute! This business owner is relatively new to the Whidbey island community…read more The owners of this business is also engaging in buying pallets of illegal fireworks and this last week the genius decide to smoke dabs next to 700 pounds of fireworks that they had stored in the living room of their double wide. Then recently the "man " of the couple returned to smoke again on the property and start a fire. Our neighbors just below this load have told us that this guy was selling the fireworks that have made our street a war zone during the Fourth of July. It's been miserable here since this has proliferated!! This completely destroyed their recent home and the one next door displacing an 85 year old renter that doesn't know where she will go next. It also significantly destroyed the neighboring home on the other side of a valued community member that runs a non profit food pantry that has had to recently move operations to her home after at Mother's Day flood at the storefront in Langley. She is now being harassed by the owner with the smoking problem including a second fire set next to her fence gate. Read the news. Judge for yourself. This business in my opinion should not get any love or support in our community as they are more of a problem than a positive attribute! It's just an outsider with no concern except profit while living here.
