They certainly charged me what they wanted since they are the only framing shop on the island. I thought maybe it was just a bad day but found the same poor attitude and service the second time I went into the store so I complained. I ended up taking my project to Anacortes instead. The store there was delightful, friendly and the energy was welcoming. Basic good business. Reflecting back, the work quality at Gene's Art & Frame was average at best and not worth the close to month long wait. They obviously get away with the bad behavior and act with impunity. Gene's make you sign a legal document saying they charge a 50% nonrefundable deposit. You must pick your project up in 30 days and at 60 they aren't responsible for it. If they damage your art they aren't responsible for more than $500 in damages. If a framer does good work the customers want to pick their art up and you don't need to force them to sign a shady legal document. Law 101 you can't disclaim liability Gene's. I hope you can avoid the frustration and disrespect I felt at Gene's. It's simply not worth it.

The framer associate said she disn't want to set her business up for failure. By providing a customer with 8 little nails? And that was worth losing what could have led to hundreds of dollars in sales of framing? I didn't even let it get that far so they don't realize the loss in sales. I was intrigued by the "hang out & make art" sign in the window and decided to stop by after lunch. As I walked in, I was immediately welcomed by The Decemberists' sweet musical embrace. One of my favorite bands playing? How did they know! And it just ended up being the sweetest little art shop. Queer-friendly (and queer-owned, I found after googling later on!) with local art for purchase and a wide variety of art supply mediums. I wish I'd had more time to check out the studio/"maker art" side of the shop, because it looked wonderful. I will absolutely make a special trip over the next time I'm passing through Whidbey.

This colossal antique shop grabbed my attention almost immediately upon walking in, due to the…read moresheer variety and volume of quirky and interesting knick-knacks and kitsch on display just inside the door. Further exploration kept my attention engaged, as we moved through the various showrooms, seeking ever more interesting treasures and relics from days gone by. Nasty's Jack's collection is anything but, and the selection here is far less...stuffy, I guess, than other antique stores. This is an antique store for all ages, not just grandma and her collection of porcelain teddy bears, or whatever. Here you'll find everything from legacy furniture, décor, signage, tools, kitchenware, tableware and clothing, to toys, comics, figurines, sporting equipment, jewelry, records, DVDs, VHS, books, and probably a whole lot more that I am forgetting. You could spend hours here raiding each and every bin, hoping to dig up that special treasure that grabs your attention and pillages your wallet. Nasty Jack would be proud if you did!
