Like she doesn't give two scraps about customers entering her shop. Happily helped obvious repeat customers, but couldn't care less to help me. I went back again, hoping maybe it was just an off day for her. Nope. And after reading the negative reviews, it makes me feel better. I was honestly so taken aback by how curt and rude the owner was. I've been quilting for over 30 years and never in my life have I experienced such an awful quilt shop owner. If you've never been, save yourself and don't bother. The owner doesnt care about you or your business. She obviously has her regular clientele and doesn't care about adding more.

Downstairs, the place is about half fabric and half classrooms of various sizes. The fabric area is mainly quilting cottons, with a decent selection of patterns, and a recently-updated yarn area for the knitting and crochet crowd. They carry most of the main fabric designers for quilting, as well as batiks, holiday prints, and tons of solids and mixers. Accessories include any ruler, tool, or notion you could possibly need for quilting; plus they have sewing-inspired gifts, too. Upstairs, there are more classrooms (including a pay by the hour longarm rental room) and a large Bernina showroom. This area also has more patterns, as well as bagmaking supplies. The supply selection here is pretty good - lots of zippers, d-rings, etc. However, as with most things bagmaking, there just didn't seem to be enough stuff to satisfy my cravings for things like printed vinyl, waterproof canvas, rainbow zippers, etc. The sad truth for bagmakers is that it's hard to find a local option to shop these things; I end up buying most of my supplies online or at the Sew Expo. That being said, if you're a beginning bagmaker I'm sure you would find their supplies more than adequate. The staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, too - I was a little nervous about this after reading previous reviews, but I had no issues with service. I ended up buying a quilt pattern book and a really cool fabric-focused wall calendar that I can't wait to start using in January. I'll definitely be coming back here, and I hope to take a class or two in 2025.

So, even though it's a bit off the beaten path, Calico Creations has become a place I can rely on to grab the perfect fabric for my latest project. So I try to stop there when I'm passing near (or through) MV. They carry all of the major designers and latest lines. From modern prints by Tula Pink and Kaffe Fassett to more traditional calicos and Civil War style fabrics, you will find it here. Not to mention they have an extensive collection of solids and blender fabrics, baby fabrics, pattern books and even some pre-cuts (not many, but I'll take it). Not in a sewing mood? Find inspo from their ever-rotating samples adorning their windows and walls. On a budget? They have an impressive (and huge) sale area in the back, where fabric is $10/yard (or lower). My only criticism is their small space. They could easily fill a shop twice the size, and as a result many MANY of their bolts are sitting on the floor. They try to keep it organized, and do a pretty good job, but it bears mentioning you'll need to "file" through bolts on the floor that aren't as easy to view as the ones on the shelves.

They said to bring it back if it acted up again, which it did almost as soon as I began sewing again. I returned to the store and they gave me a replacement machine immediately. Gracious, helpful, responsive. My new machine (Bably Lock Jubilant) sews perfectly now. I love it. I'll attend a class next week to learn how to maximize its features. Super impressed.
