Friends told us that they only buy mattresses from Gardner and after having purchased multiple for my family last month we can see why. Zac helped us purchase the right mattresses for each of our preferences, and we've all had the best sleep of our lives on our new Gardner mattresses. read more

I just recently purchased a comfort support mattress from Gardner. It was delivered to my house the other day. I have been having terrible shoulder pain when I sleep on my right side. I had mentioned this to Zac (Sales associate) he directed me to the right mattress apparently; I experienced one of the best night's sleeps I had in a long while (no pain in my shoulder). The price was very reasonable also. It should be of note that there was no pressure from Zac to make a purchase. When the delivery men showed up, they were extremely nice and professional, they removed old mattress and box spring and replaced it with new mattress and foundation in less than 20 minutes and extremely careful not to scrape my walls while ascending up a narrow staircase! This company makes all of their mattresses here (not massed produced). It was nice dealing with a local company that has a great product and is totally AMERICAN MADE! I would highly recommend this company to anyone who wants a quality mattress. You will not leave this store disappointed. read more

While cleaning out my home office files, I came across a receipt for a King mattress and 2 boxspring we bought from Gardner Mattress 24 years ago! We've been sleeping on this awesome bed every night since it was delivered and we love it so much we often say "Thank you Mr. Gardner!" Truly the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. From what I remember, the gentleman who shared his bedding knowledge showed us how and why the mattresses are hand tied. I wouldn't buy a mattress anywhere else and to do so locally is just the best ever. Keep doing what you do-offering top quality with excellent service!! Thank you! read more

Gardner Mattress - 24 years later, we still love our mattress! - Mattresses Near Me - Salem, Massachusetts

After surviving the pandemic, buying local and "Made In America" was my motto when I needed things. Well, I needed a new mattress, and Gardner Mattress fit the criteria! They are made in the building behind the showroom! The salesperson who assisted me was Zach and not only was he a perfect gentleman but he knew every little detail about each mattress they offer and helped in narrowing down the "perfect" mattress for me! Thank you, Zach! You made shopping for a mattress easy & stress-free. :) read more

Although we have not received our mattress we visited the Woburn retail location. We were greeted by Court. It was quiet so we had his undivided attention. Court guided us through 5 mattresses and just like Goldilocks he seemed to know which one fit "just right". We were given a history lesson of Gardner Mattress which only endeared us further. We purchased our mattress and cannot imagine purchasing from anywhere else. I wish I bought my last two from Gardner. read more

I had a great telephone conversation with a sales associate and felt very positive about my upcoming visit to Gardner. He emphasized the fact that I should ask for a 10 percent discount as I was a prior customer. However when I entered the store and mentioned the discount the salesperson got snarky, even after he found my name in their records. No discount he said. Also their exchange policy seems to be like shifting sand from "exchanges only" to "well if you're really upset, you can get a refund." With other mattress stores, there is no hedging. The whole experience made me think twice about purchasing a mattress there. read more

We walked into the Gardner Mattress store in Salem wanting to buy a new bed. Zach greeted us and right away made us feel comfortable and ready to talk about a new bed. Within a short period of tlime we had learned of all of our options and came to the decision of which mattress and box spring to buy. Zach assured us that there would be no problem getting our queen sized mattress up our narrow stairs. He was correct about that. The delivery men were fast and efficient, leaving us with a new bed. Thanks to the Gardner Mattress team of professionals for a great shopping experience and a fantastically comfortable mattress. Peter. Newburyport Ma. read more

A shoutout of thanks to Zach and Jerry at Salem's Gardner Mattress. So helpful in finding a replacement for broken wheel of my Queen size bed. Purchased a comfortable, well-made product from Gardner Mattress a few years and so grateful for their successful efforts in locating the correct wheel to fix this unexpected issue. A good company that stands behind their product!! Than you both from a happy customer! read more

I love this family owned business. They know their business and provide great information, customer service and product with zero pressure and no drama. Just bought a Queen size Malouf Adjustable frame and Semi-Sacro mattress. This adjustable frame has a massager, under bed LED light for nighttime bathroom excursions, USB ports and several awesome pre-set configurations like "reading/TV watching", "Zero Gravity" (feels so cool) and "Anti-snore". They delivered it exactly when they said they would and set it all up. After they left I laid on it to read the brochure.. and fell asleep! Ha! I love this bed. read more

EllenFSomerville, MA The best mattress I have ever purchased also came from the best mattress store I have ever shopped in--Gardner Mattress in Salem, MA is a family-run business. You can spend as much time as you want testing the mattresses in their small store; they will make them firmer or softer, as you wish; if you need an odd size they will accommodate that requrement as well. There is no pressure to buy and if you don't like the mattress within 30 days they will refund your money (unlike most stores that will require you to use it to buy another mattress). You will find it worth the trip to make your way to Salem--and you can combine it with a visit to the wonderful little Peabody Essex Museum. read more

You get what you pay for. In this case, you get a top quality product made right at the factory in Salem. And for people buying a latex mattress, you can order a custom size, including the box springs, for very little extra. Yes, you can get a standard-sized mattress for less, but I doubt if it will be this good. Your mattress is one place where you should NOT cut corners. Cheap as I am, I've never once complained about our Gardner mattress, which totally amazed my wife! read more

Went to Sleepy's, nothing but sales pressure and chemicals. Checked out Gardner Mattress near where we live and found the natural latex mattress we were looking for and had a wonderful time checking out the beds with no pressure style . Thanks to the staff and John. By the way ,the bed is amazing! read more

Excellent! Above and beyond! Happy Gardner mattress customer AGAIN!.

In a world of big box chain stores crammed with almost all foreign-made stuff, it is so refreshing to have a Made-in-USA locally owned business that custom-makes a decent product at reasonable prices. Gardner Mattress is first rate. Though I'm not a mattress user (I have a futon), my family has bought their mattresses from Gardner in Salem for years. The factory is right here, with a show room/retail shop in front. The nice folks at Gardner cut-to-fit a nice, thick, firm sheet of egg-crate foam rubber for me so I could have an extra layer of soft support on my futon. The price was very reasonable, and the foam rubber is excellent quality and has kept its shape and not dried out even after almost 10 years of use. read more

I waited far too long to get a Gardner mattress. I've had friends recommend them for years, but never pulled the trigger. Finally replaced my 10 yr old national brand double pillow top monstrosity with a Gardner Ergo. One week in and I can't believe the difference. The comfort is great, sleeping better - and it may be in my head, but my back pain is dramatically reduced. The lowest pressure sales person I've dealt with in a long time, delivery crew was great, price was very reasonable for something you spend 1/3 of your life on, and cool to think that they didn't make the mattress until the day before delivery. It wasn't sitting in some warehouse for months. Don't wait like I did. You deserve it. read more

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend to mattress-shop. Tiny store, has about 30 mattresses or so. They sell almost entirely mattresses they make. Also some Tempurpedic mattresses. The salesman was really nice, helped us and another couple out at the same time, and was quite knowledgeable. Great store, great mattresses. Prices were fair for the quality product. read more

Aching with jealously over all of the Yelp love letters from people treated nicely and politely at Gardner Mattress. What we ever did to be treated like crap at the Salem store we will never know. My husband called them to try to talk it out (he's a psychologist!) but to no avail. We were treated like the local crack addicts when we walked in there and we were ready to buy a mattress right then and there! Sadly the "salesperson" did everything she possibly could to scare us out the door. She was profoundly unwelcoming and did not seem interested in us at all. The wonders of Gardner Mattress, alas, they are not for the likes of us. A "big box" store might treat us better--onward we go. read more

We needed two twin mattresses to replace those on our king size bed frame. My wife and I both have significant lower back issues, and finally decided that we needed to replace the worn out mattresses we have had for decades. (Duh!). We went to Gardner in Salem, attracted by their local-business non-chain character and were not disappointed. We ended up buying top of the line latex mattresses from them. Much more $$ than I realized mattresses cost, but I woke up this morning with no pain or stiffness at all. The purchase transaction was low pressure all the way, the salesman was patient in explaining the options, the mattresses arrived at our house exactly when promised, and old ones removed to the dump without a hitch. If you want to save money, Gardner is probably not for you. If you want a great mattress and a positive shopping experience, I recommend you try Gardner. read more

I waited for 5 years to write this review. I researched quite a bit and even thought of performing mattress surgery to get the perfect mattress, because I couldn't take my back pain issues anymore. Then, I found Gardner mattress. There was no sales pressure tactics, and the guy actually knew what went into each mattress, as opposed to most chain stores, where they can only tell you its pillow top, but not what's in it. All I can tell you is that we bought their mattress 5 years ago, and never had to deal with back pain again. No sagging, as good as new, and we have 2 kids under the age of 5 who jump on it all the time. They even managed to break the wood slats on our bed....BUT the all latex mattress is the same as the day we purchased it. If that doesn't tell you enough, then I don't know what does! Even if you need to take a day off to go get this mattress, it'll be the best day you spent. read more

I bought my second mattress at Gardner just a couple of weeks ago...I've had it six nights now. You go in, ask all the questions you want, and you're left alone to test all the mattresses at your leisure. It helps to be wearing comfortable clothes. I started with a medium firm mattress, but my back was screaming for much firmer, so I ended up ordering the firmest of all. It was also the most expensive, but this is 1/3 of my life I spend here. Delivery was as arranged...they call the day before to confirm, and went smoothly. All is well, and my back even feels a bit better. read more

We just moved into the area and heard about this business, where they make their own mattresses. We bought a king size bed and a twin bed and could not be happier with our purchase and the service we received. The salesman was very knowledgable, informative and helpful. We are more than pleased. We live in midcoast Maine and visited a number of stores here testing their mattresses. We just were not happy and most of the brand names don't have reversible which we wanted. So I checked this site and read the reviews and we drove down to the Woburn store where the owner's son helped us. There was no pressure and we tested and tested the ones there and made our selections. He took our order and asked if we wanted "splits" for the boxsprings. Yes we did and thank goodness he asked or they never would have fit up our stairs. We've had the mattresses for a few weeks now and just love them. We made the right decision and we have the best mattresses now. Prices are good there and we would HIGHLY recommend Gardner Mattress to everyone. read more

Couldn't be happier. The sales guy was really friendly and patiently explained all the different options to me more than once. They helped me get a great deal on a king-sized organic mattress with an adjustable base. When they delivered it, it was too tall. They came back for free to lower it. I appreciated that. I've had it for three months and it's my favorite thing in life still. Much nicer than any mattress I've seen on a showroom floor, and at a better price. A no-brainer. read more

Great company both product wise and customer service ( I went to the Woburn location) we love the mattress even years later. So much better than the big box mattress companies that pump out chemical filled synthetic mattress. For the same cost you get a truly a custom Mattress and great customer service. This mattress company produces pure garbage. I ordered a firm mattress for no less than 1700 dollars and after two weeks of use it was no longer firm but was sagging. No quality here, poor workmanship you do not get what was promised. FIRM MATTRESS should be firm . The sides shouldnt collapse when you sit on it. I asked the company to pick up the mattress and never heard back from them. I WOULD NEVER BUY A GARDNER MATTRESS again. You dont get what you pay for. STAY AWAY !! read more

There are some great people who work here! I wish I could elaborate but you'll just have to go check it out for yourself!

I bought an extra firm mattress 4 years ago and it's still going strong. I made sure that we had good support for the box spring and mattress unit by getting a heavy duty metal frame. There is zero sagging. We rotate and flip the mattress. This is lnot possible with most other mattress companies mattresses because they don't make them flippable to save money. We also purchased a latex topper because I like the ideaa of keeping soft topper separate from the mattress, that way you only replace topper if material compresses or wears out, not the entire mattress. My son has just moved into a new apartment and we recommended he get one as well from gardner. I have had lots of bad experience in past with sagging mattresses. I also like their warranty, if you have issues they can fix them. read more

Great locally made product at fair pricing. Why would anyone ever go to Jordan's or another large retailer ever again. I'll take product and service over marketing and gimmicks any day. Happy we found Gardner. read more

We just purchased our second mattress from Gardner for our vacation home. We have a custom designed bed that requires a mattress no higher than eight inches. Try to find an eight inch thick mattress in any store, no one makes them. One large furniture retailer who sells lots of mattresses tried to convince me that a 10 inch mattress was really 8 inches. At the Gardner store in Newton, they said they would make a mattress for us at 8 inches. Custom made, because they hand make every mattress in their factory locally. Same price as floor models, AND gave us a 10% discount since we are repeat buyers. By the way, our first mattress is over 10 years old and is in great shape, we can't wait to get home to it when we travel. I highly recommend Gardner mattress, it's a local gem. read more

I purcased a mattress from Gardner in Salem MA in January of 2011. Here's how I would break out the excellent experience I've had. Purchase. I went to the showroom in Salem with my girlfriend. We were greated at the door by the owner who started the sales process with us, as his colleague was busy. Once the salesman became available, we were introduced to him and he helped us test the mattresses until we found the right one. No pushy sales techniques, just informed discussion on our preferences and the different mattress types. We chose the mattress we wanted and agreed a delivery date - about a week out. The day before the scheduled delivery Gardner called and confirmed a time for delivery. My girlfriend was able to work from home that day, and the delivery guys turned up on time. It was an extremely windy day and unfortunately as they were bringing the box spring up the back deck stairs, the wind caught it and it landed on a post and tore the backing fabric a little. Some companies would try and pass this off, "you won't see it" etc. But not these guys. They apologized profusely and immediately made arrangements for a new one to be brought to us. The mattress is incredibly comfortable. I travel a lot for work and get to sleep on some good hotel mattresses. But, I love to get back to my Garnder mattress. I don'[t often write reviews, but the quality of the product, the excellent service and the fact that it's a local company made me want to share this information. I would never go back to the chain's like Sleepys or Mattress Discounters again. If you are looking for a mattress, then I would say it's definitley worth your time to head to a Gardner store. read more

Purchased our King 3" plush top mattress in 1995 with a 10 year warranty. Worked well for us until last year when we were not sleeping well. Observed sagging on both sides of the mattress. A call to Gardner resulted in a home visit by the owner and a quick response to our concerns. In one day the mattress was picked up, a new top installed, new box springs created and the mattress returned to us that afternoon. There was never any question or challenge about our mattress concerns. Can't say enough about the customer service, the company, or the mattress and highly recommended Gardner Mattress to friends and family. read more
