Hello, My friends and I came to Garden Bistro last night all dressed up and excited for the costume contest. Throughout the night, we asked several times what time the contest would be held and were told to wait until 12, then until 1, and finally that it would happen at the end of the night. Unfortunately, it never ended up happening, which was really disappointing for us. We actually love coming to Garden Bistro and usually have a great time, which is why this experience was such a letdown. It felt misleading to be told there would be a contest and prize, only to find out there wasn't one after all. More of a Latin club. Popular hits inside. People reserve lounge tables in there with bottles and it's makes for a less dance friendly environment as everyone was sitting down. Outside has the more classics and you'll see more partner dances. The patio area was actually very nice and had a bunch of patio seating.I will say the crowd is almost too young if that makes sense... There was a cover of $12 a bag check and pat down for males. "Latin Night"= musica urbana night. A ONE HOUR set yielded two ripiaos (one of which was a Pentecostal song which made me feel more like a heathen than I already am) and two or three bachatas. Salsa be damned because Bad Bunny and J Balvin are the only Latinos getting spins. The DJ played the same whack-ass J Lo song twice in the the hour and a half that we were there. Twenty dollar cover charge for the both of us, a seven dollar cocktail that tasted like Robitussin and a crowd that was, just...well... let's call them, eclectic, means it's not a place I would waste money on in the future. The place looked nice, don't get me wrong, but the dance floor was the size of most peoples kitchens. Definitely not a club I'd ever get excited to go to. Nope- went for Latin night - will never go back. So much security had me concerned w even being there. Was groped, ran into hard w out apologies- I know it's crowded but seriously rude crowd, mix of people a few looked like they put effort- most look liked they were dressed for a causal summer bbq. As a Veteran Marine with PTSD from my service, Security guard Rodriguez was very aggressive with his search in front of the bar and have lack of self awareness when a individual comes up for search., I never done his actions as marine during training I can tell a individual is not a threat or not and I can easily tell he or she is armed or not by observing the individual without laying hands on the individual, even police officers will not be that aggressive, this cause me to panic and tried to get away from him, and he continued to be aggressive, as well the white bald individual as head security said his actions was appropriate. As this time is was my first time at a bar and I did not know I shouldn't take out drinks from the bar, security came all aggressive again acting like I was committing a felony and wouldn't explain what I did wrong. I am not a aggressive man but they treated me like one and no remorse have been showed. Will not ever go here again. read more

worst service ever. Don't waste your time or money here. First we called for a section when we arrived early they said they never put our name down, and there was like 6 of us. Then when we went to the restroom the man in there wouldn't let us wash our hands without tipping him? So we gave him $20 and got ONE piece of GUM !!! And he still was saying " more money more more "?? For $1 piece of gum? Then they tried kicking us out TWO times and kept saying my bad and brought us back in and said sorry by buying us shots. One of the classiest night clubs in San Antonio, when i first walked in to this Club my mind was blown Away by the decorations inside, the patio has another bar and nice set of tables where you can sit and enjoy smoking and drinking and all the green plants around made me feel so relaxed ,I was lucky to be there earlier than the other people which gave me the chance to talk to some of the Staff and they were so nice and friendly. They have a good DJ and nice music, I love the Bamboleo nights on fridays and the classy crowd on Saturday nights, Awesome Waitresses, most professional security staff and the bartenders are super nice. The cover is expensive, the crowd was odd, the drinks were overpriced, & the outside patio area had a lot of roaches when I visited. To break it down a bit the cover is $10 & a mixed drink will cost you about another $10-$15. I tried to give this place a chance but just couldn't. I finished my drink & then told my friend that I wanted to leave. We proceeded out the door & as were walking away the bouncers kept calling to us & telling us to come back, that it gets better, etc etc. The encounter was just awkward & their shouting across the parking lot was not making it any better. $40 wasted. Do you like going to a place where the bouncer feels you up and grabs your man parts before you can enter the club? Do you like paying a $10 cover to get into a crappy bar filled with douche bags? You like $8 bar drinks? Oh... Have I got the place for you. I took a date out to this dump and spent $50 in about 30 minutes. Just the cover and 4 drinks. The second bartender charged me more than the first one for the same drink! She says that she gave me Grey Goose even though I did not ask for it. That is not the worst part, the drinks were weak. If immigration stopped by, they could fill a bus load. NEVER go to a place where you are searched before you go in! This tells you that there is trouble at that bar. All of the places on 1604 such as Lil Woodrow's, Picks, Lush, cooter brown's, burn house, etc would never search you before going in and I never see problems there. Garden bistro is a Latin club that plays genres from the Caribbean like bachata, merengue, reggeaton, reggae, and salsa. I have been here a few times now and tend to have A pretty good time each night. For this review I will simply list the pros and cons. Pros: good genre of music. The environment is upbeat and the decor and lighting is good. The drinks are decently priced and taste good. The staff and bartenders are very attentive and fast, they do a exceptional job. Cons: the dance floor is a joke! Extremely tiny and awkwardly shaped, their is a high rise that spread across the entire floor which causes everyone to trip. The sound system is to powerful for the wiring setup which causes the music to cut off at least once or twice every night. A black bouncer in the entrance has been very rude to several members of my party, even on nights when we have VIP service. In all it is a decent place to have a good time. Overcrowded and a waste of time. My girlfriends and I went and tried to make the most of it but I was physically dragged out of the bathroom by a lady who claimed to be a worker. FYI, there's a basket full of gum and candy in the bathroom. I would usually leave some money behind-but this place has no basket or jar. So when a woman that looked to be a guest demanded that I hand her my money for the gum I took, I did what anyone else would have done and asked if she was actually a worker. She proceeded to yell at me and grab me by the arm while telling me I was being kicked out. Luckily I was able to get a security guards attention and explain the situation. He rolled his eyes and made it seem like this worker gets "set off" frequently. Please save your money, time, and patience and go literally anywhere else. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I came here for a friends birthday and it was so uncomfortable. We arrived around midnight on Friday and it was super dead to the point that we had security continuously starring at us as if we were doing someone wrong. We noticed they were kicking out people for no reason. The security were complete douches. As soon as we walked up they were super rude, making comments about what one of the guys in our group was wearing. Then, the cover charge was 10 for 21+ which is annoying considering one drink was like 8 dollars. The music wasn't even good, and the people there tried to act as if they were high class when in reality they were far from it. I don't know why I always agree to invitations to come out to Garden on Fridays for their Latin night because I never have a good time. I don't like Garden because it is not a good place for social dancing unless you bring your own partner. If you don't have your own dance partner, good luck getting asked to dance. This isn't like other salsa clubs where guys come up to you and ask you to dance. Everyone just stands around and hardly anyone except maybe a few girls in a small circle is a reggaeton song comes on. The floor is pretty small but it isn't really a problem most of the time because not that many people dance. I've seen people dance outside of the dance floor too since there is enough space between the floor and tables. If you just want to hang out and drink this place is alright. It's pretty cute inside people do show up here, but I don't think the atmosphere is that fun. I'd rather go to Arjon's even if it's much older and less cute. read more

Tonight was the second time I have came to this bar with my friends and I should've never came back at all. The first time I came to this bar the service was absolutely terrible with almost all of there staff being rude and unprofessional. We purchased a section that night to celebrate my friends birthday and right when we got there it was like we were on a waiting list for the section we already had purchased?? after an hour of complaining to there staff goes by we finally got our section just to get kicked out. We asked the security and the staff member about us getting kicked out, and you would think they had a valid reason but... they literally had no reason besides saying we didn't "spend" enough money. The second time I came here (tonight) i already knew that we were going to have problems and I was more then right about that. Not even 10 minutes of my friends and I being there we had witness this gentleman pull out a gun and just started shooting. The only good thing I can say about this place is how they handled this shooting situation but other then that, there staff doesn't even seem to change, when we got inside for safety we still had rude encounters with there staff like our lives weren't on the line as well. I hope there staff member that was obviously shot multiple times is well & has a good recovery but with that being said I will never be coming back here ever again until they find better staff that knows how to treat customers that are spending hundreds of dollars of there terrible service. read more

Recently I went here for a fashion show on the two year anniversary (which by the way congrats) and my first issue was I walked up wearing a hat and was told "I'm sorry there's a fashion show tonight and dress code is strictly enforced you have to take off the hat." No biggie, but it is kinda strange considering the hat wasn't just a baseball hat it was a part of fashion and a part of my outfit. But like I said "no biggie" Moving on to the inside of the club. The fake plants are very tacky, but without them I don't think they could live up to their name of "garden" so I understand. The bar looked super cool and I loved the lit up tables. The vibe was really cool and fun. Crowd was definitely an older one and I wouldn't have gone here had there not been a fashion show. The drinks were slightly high priced as well. My experience was good and I had a good time. But I was going for a friend. It was a thirty minute drive for me and in my eyes wasn't worth it. They're doing something right for someone else though obviously. Happy two years. read more

Absolutely the worst place you can go to, i would give this place negative stars. They made us pay the $10 cover charge just to have us walk in and seconds later kick us out because there's no room. And then when we asked for a refund they said sorry no refunds. On top of that when we were waiting for our Uber when about five different fights broke out and then a girl came out with her friend to report that a man grabbed her extremely innapropriately and the manager literally told her it's a club, it happens. I came here with a group of friends to celebrate one of their birthdays. The customer service from both the manager and the server was horrible. The drinks tasted disgusting and the mixers tasted very very flat. The place was extremely packed to where you couldn't walk pass someone without being squished into a sandwich with another person. Garden sucks. We came here for my friend's birthday party and she asked for Green Apple Ciroc, and they brought out THREE bottles of Ciroc. She ended up having to pay $200 for that. Other than that, good place to come to get away for a bit and listen to popular latino hits (actually this place probably had the best music out of other places I've been). I came here and enjoyed a bottle of Moet with my mother, my complaint here would be that the girl who brought it to us had no idea how to open it and the bottle included a 20% tip. 20% for what, being absolutely clueless? Standard rule is that whoever brings out the champagne should know how to open it. Also, it didn't come with any cherries or anything which was kind of lame. Went for the first time to celebrate my birthday. It will most definitely be my last. I did VIP everything went good until it was time to pay. The server lost my girl's credit card and tried to play it off as though she "maybe" gave it back. As they go back and forth trying to look for the card one of the bouncers comes up to me and said that the server lost the card so we need to come up with another form of payment. No I apologize, I'm sorry, not even a my bad. I explained to him that they inconvenience us and they need to go find the card or do something. He said that the owner, manager, and promoter weren't going to do anything because they "didn't know us". So my girl decides to go to her car to get another card while me and my group stay seated. What pissed me off was that same bouncer sent a cop to follow her like if she was a damn criminal!! Over a bottle!! Really!! Was not at all happy with the way we were treated. Then later on the manager gives out his number and saids that next time he will take care of us. Why?? So another server can be drunk out of her mind and lose another card. No thank you.
