We had Father's Day brunch here. Everyone was happy with their Latin style eggs. Because I'm on a limited diet, I had the house salad with chicken. The chicken was seasoned nicely, not too spicy but flavorful. The salad is mostly romaine with tomatoes. The only dressings available are table-side oil and vinegar or ranch. Would have been nice to have a simple vinaigrette (lime, olive oil, oregano, cilantro, etc., something like that). It is very loud inside! All sounds reverberated off the brick walls into a muddled cacophony. They had the World Cup on all TV screens in the restaurant. I understand it is a rare and special event. But it was so loud I could hardly hear the conversation at our table. I would rather have had the TVs muted and Latin music softly playing. I imagine it is probably loud all the time. It's basically a sports bar with Mexican food. But I'm sensitive to sound and also half deaf which is a magical combination. The service was good. Had to waive people down to get more water occasionally because the glasses are pretty small. But that's not really a complaint, as they were always helpful. Plus you can just pop up to the bar to get a refill if they're super busy. Would definitely go again! With my severe dietary restrictions I would probably order the same thing. Not their fault. My date and I were going for Sushi Tokoro at 5pm but she was stuck in traffic. I was early anyway so decided to try the bar at Garcia's Restaurant. A couple Martinis in I was digging the ambiance and texting her maybe we should have another cocktail and stay here. When I arrived around 4:45pm it was me and two others at the bar. Around 5:15pm they were getting busy so I kept the empty bar still next to me close. Finally a friendly guy by himself asked if the seat was taken and I said, "Yes, I'm expecting someone any minute." Suddenly, a new bartender who just came on said, "you've been here a half hour, you can't save that seat." So, needless to say I asked for the check. Some of our friends who live in Ravenswood love this place! I thought it was pretty solid but the horchata was on the sweeter side. Food is absolutely amazing but everytime I step in prices go up! I get it. Food costs more ...but I am almost to the point where I cannot go there financially. My favorite , tortilla soup was $5....then $7....now $11 and that is plain. Add $3 for chicken. A quesadilla with rice and beans is $20?!? Are you kidding me?? $11 glass of house regular margarita ...We all stared at the menu today and came to the assumption it's a new menu/raised prices again. Garcias is usually a brunch or lunch spot for me and I recently got to go for dinner with neighbors. First off they are super accommodating to parents finding a table at the end where we could park our stroller and kiddo. We were with another family with young kids so the place works for all ages. The ambiance is always super lively . They have photographers take peoples pics (like a theme park lol) . The portions are massive! The chicken mole is tasty. And a bit messy to eat lol read more

Loud, vibrant, open restaurant with a ton of tables inside. We were greeted and seated right away. Service was prompt when we sat down. I ordered a burrito with al pastor, my husband did the same with chorizo, my sis had a chicken taco and fish taco meal, and my son had the kids quesadillas. I heard the kids quesadillas and the beans were amazing and 10 out of 10. The burritos and tacos were also good. The salsa is amazing from here.. Had some good spice. The only thing weird that happened was a woman taking pictures of everyone.. She printed them out, put them in frames and tried to sell them to us. It was very awkward. It was also so bright in there, we asked hostess if lighting can be dimmed. She said she couldn't. Moving on. Service was excellent. I ordered a frozen mango margarita. It was great, but very strong. The bar side is slightly quieter. The drinks are good, especially the margaritas. The food is a bit hit or miss. My husband always get the skirt steak. I had dinner at Garcia's with my in-laws last night. The restaurant was clean and had a lively atmosphere. We got there a little on the later side and so we were able to get a table right away despite the size of our party. Overall the food was good- I especially liked the tortilla soup. I had a jamaica drink, which was refreshing although it was overly sweet. The chips and salsa were tasty- the chopped salsa is more our preference to the blended variety. The fries were very good and a huge portion for $3. Unfortunately, the only thing my husband and I have talked about regarding our experience last night was the seemingly sneaky upselling by our waiter. I asked for a jamaica drink and didn't realize til we got the bill that he'd rang me up for a large. We wanted to try the tortilla soup the fajitas and asked him if that was too much food for two people and he said no. Our soups came out first were so big we not only didn't finish them but we didn't even touch our fajitas. I was think he knew they it was too much food but wanted to make the sale. (I understand the temptation- I waited tables for 15 years.) Truly great service would have prioritized taking a long view of the situation and suggesting he split a soup for us along with the fajitas. Yes, the bill would have been slightly lower, this review would be written very differently, we would have had different conversations about our experience last night, and we would probably be much more keen to go back. read more

We moved in around the corner several months ago and finally gave Garcia's a try...we waited several months too long! The service was immediate and the portions were huge! My partner had the vegetarian fajitas and I had the steak enchiladas and tortilla soup. The flavor was amazing for every bite (even though I was stuffed and couldn't finish). We also thought we were super cool and ordered the mezcal margarita pitcher...little did we know this was a great deal and there was no way we could finish the whole pitcher if we wanted to leave under our own power. The restaurant is warmly lit and has a nice vibe, without being too loud, bright, or overwhelming. 10/10 experience! Our server, Chuy, was incredible. About a 1-1.5: Garcia's has been around since the early '90s in the Lincoln Square area and is apparently known for their chimichangas. Their menu also offers various appetizers, salads, fajitas, beef/chicken/seafood dishes, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, tostadas, tortas, and breakfast options. We came here for an early dinner, and we ordered: +the Carne Asada chimichanga - we opted for the fillings of beans, onions, and cheese, served Suizo-style (topped with melted cheese), with a side of the salsa ranchero +horchata - we opted for the large size - this was definitely on the sweeter end, more like candy-like; check your sugar levels afterwards! Making the entree a 'dinner', this came with a side of rice, beans, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream and guacamole. The rice had no flavor and was dry; the refried beans were also unseasoned and more on the gritty/gloopy side. Guacamole was okay, and definitely preferred to dip the tortilla chips in rather than the extremely watery salsa that was served. The chimichanga itself didn't seem to have been drained well, as it was very oily - I thought the 'melted cheese' would be more of like a queso, but seeing the melted cheese on top was disappointing - it was also flavorless, so it didn't really add much to the chimichanga. The salsa ranchero tasted literally like the watery salsa that was served with the chips. The fillings of the chimichanga were okay; it seemed as if there were generous amount of carne asada within, but there were some parts that were too fatty or gristly. I was also surprised with the amount that we paid for the chimichanga meal, being it almost close to $40, in addition to gratuity, with the drink - not sure what various surcharges that were applied, but that was a bit ridiculous. Sure, they give you a generous amount of food, but there was no value to it due to the quality that was served. Service was friendly, but we could have been checked in more often for refills of water, condiments, and/or getting the check. The place seemed to get busier as the evening went on, and you can tell that this is a popular spot for the locals. Unfortunately, the craving for a delicious chimichanga was not satisfied, and this place was a no dice - definitely a hyped joint. Garcia's has had a special place in my heart for over 25 years. My first job was at The Davis theater & one of my favorite things was when we would all go to Garcia's after work. Their location has expanded dramatically since I was 16, but they always seem to keep the house packed, and for good reason. The food here is some of the best Mexican food I've had. No matter what area or neighborhood I've lived in, this is still my favorite. Someone once told me you can tell a good Mexican restaurant by how good their rice & beans are, and Garcia's are always perfect, and that's just the rice & beans. I have had almost everything on their menu, and I've never had something that I didn't like. My go-to menu item lately is the combination plate, simply because I can never decide on one thing. I always get the combo with a pastor taco, a steak tostada, and a chicken enchilada with mole. I don't know what it is about their Pico de Gallo that is soooooo good, but the recipe has been consistently the same for all of these years. Their margaritas are the perfect mix of strong without being overpowering, and you can get them by the glass or by the pitcher. I've tried every flavor, and the only one I didn't care for was the Ginger margarita. It was a little heavy on the ginger flavor for my taste, but you get what you ask for! My favorite appetizer is their shrimp ceviche. The staff are always courteous, helpful, and fast. The exterior and interior of the restaurant are both beautiful. The ceilings are tall, with beautiful murals circled with brick walls. Bright papel picado are strung from the ceilings, and there is always great Mexican music playing at an ambient volume where people can still easily conversate. They are great for an intimate date or for a group celebration. Bathrooms are bright, clean, and stocked. They take cash and card. They take to-go orders, AND they sell their Pico de Gallo by the cup! The parking can be touch & go depending on how busy Lincoln Square is at that time. The brown line is one block away, and there is a paid parking lot next to the station, but it fills up quickly. Almost all of the street parking that I've utilized is also paid. An honest review: Pricy Mexican-inspired food without all of the robust flavors of staple Mexican ingredients. My boyfriend and I were looking for a casual date night spot with Latin American food. We stopped by Garcia's with high hopes. The decor is casual, with wooden tables and colorful flags hanging from the ceilings and walls. It was cozy and our waiter was kind and attentive. We ordered horchata, steak and chicken enchiladas, which came with rice and refried beans, and three steak tacos. The horchata was great but the food was unfortunately under seasoned and over cooked. It was inedible after a few bites and we chose not to bring the leftovers home. When we looked at other reviews on Yelp, we realized that this was a common experience for other visitors.
