We had our garage door replaced in 2022 through garage door unlimited. They did a wonderful job. We had no issues with our garage door. Today, I accidentally backed up into the garage door while it was still opening.. so I couldn't close my garage. I called them today at 7:45 am and they squeezed in an appointment for Chris to come today between 8 to 10 am. Chris came within that window and fixed my garage. Thank you so much. I really appreciate the service from this company. They were quick, understanding, and accommodating. They are also so friendly and honest. I got their name from my friend who just got a new garage door. I called them and the person who answered the phone Jay (women) was very helpful answering all my questions. She was very thorough and was able to make an appointment with me for a maintenance service. A guy name Chris came to take a look at the garage. In less than 5 minutes he was able to figure out what was wrong. Now the last person who came to "try" and "fix" my garage, gave us all kinds of reasons why it wasn't working. Pretty disappointed with this company. There quote was competitive and was through Costco so we chose them. Ann came out and did our quote. She was good. The return time was quoted as 6-8 weeks. It took 10 weeks for the doors to arrive to the company and then another 4 weeks after that to get somebody out to install. The guy who came out and did the install (forgot his name) was great. Very quick and friendly. The problem was they were supposed to put wood between the new garage door and our frame but they couldn't do it that day. It took another 2 weeks before they could get that done so we had a 4 inch gap in our garage the whole time. I called the company twice asking when this work was going to get done and both times they said the manager knew about it and was working on it but was currently out of the office. I never got a call from the manager explaining this or apologizing for the delay. When they finally did install the wood it came out terrible (pictures below). The pieces of wood they used were awful and didn't fit correctly. They also make you pay for the total job upfront, which they told me was a Costco thing. That wouldn't be a huge issue until you realize you have no leverage when they don't finish the job correctly or on time. Garage Doors Unlimited installed two complete new garage doors with openers from scratch at my house in 2013. The garage has two stalls. One side is primarily used as an office, so that door is rarely used. The other side is narrow and impractical for large vehicles so gets light use. The door opener rail pulled loose from the wall on one door in 2015 so they came out and "fixed" it. In 2020 the other opener pulled loose from the wall and I had to pay them to "fix" it. Just yesterday one of the doors pulled loose from the wall a second time. Upon inspection I found that they had mounted the opener bracket to a foot long board. The board was anchored to the wall on one end with a single lag bolt. The bracket for the opener was attached to the opposite end of the board with lag bolts that were driven into DRYWALL with NOTHING behind it. The bracket where the opener attaches to the metal door was bent and was missing 3 of 4 mounting bolts. Concerned I checked the other door to the "office" area (that is almost never used) and it was also missing 3 of 4 mounting bolts. I just spoke to Garage Doors Unlimited about this. They dismissed all responsibility for having never properly installed the garage doors, despite the fact this is the third issue since the initial install. They offered to charge me $89 for a service call (and possibly more depending on what is required to fix things) for a fourth shot at getting it right. This is not a matter of parts failing that might be out of warranty. This is an issue of Garage Doors Unlimited failing at installing the doors. Unless you want to deal with perpetual problems with your garage door install at your own expense, DO NOT USE GARAGE DOORS UNLIMITED. read more

If there was a "0" option I would have used that. We ordered and paid for a garage door in July. It was suppose to be ready in 6-8 weeks. Instead we were notified that they had to make a change in the order at that time and we finally received the garage door in December....with the wrong windows. So, they order the correct windows, tell us they will be ready in another 6 weeks... By the end of January, they said the windows were ready to be installed and proceed to schedule a date to install them. We waited all day and no one showed up. Then we rescheduled and again...no one showed up. We will be notifying Costco about our experience as they are partnered with GU. We just canceled the windows and asked for a refund. It sounds like we had a similar experience to Bar G. We had a consultation that appeared helpful in the first week of May. We were given a day for 6 weeks later, after a couple of weeks of discussion, to obtain the garage door and do the installation. We had no reason to believe this would not materialize. We discovered after changing our schedule around, on the day of planned installation, that the person who scheduled with us did not convey this to the company, had no reason to believe the door would be available (we are now being told to expect installation maybe August), and did not follow up with us to provide any revised estimate. To be clear, we received this information only after calling multiple times after the expected installation to begin. It is frustrating to pay a fee, schedule and installation, and find out no one is coming from months on the day we have re-arranged our time to accommodate. I am happy to provide an update once the garage door is installed, but based on this experience so far, I would NOT recommend this company. Try someone more reliable. read more

This company was hired by my Hoa to replace our garage doors, The poor install has resulted in my garage door needing 3 repairs in 2 years. I would save your money and use a company that doesn't subcontract out for installs because they use sub par contractors that have no sense of quality control or care. Update from first review: After a long wait, Garage Doors Unlimited came out and finished the job and in the end made it right for my family and I. It was not a painless process and took a while but I am satisfied with the work that they did this past weekend. Brian and Scott the owner both came out and were very helpful and professional. They fixed all my complaints including replacing some panels that were originally dented, installed new hardware on the outside of the door, fixed the door seals, aligned all the tracks, tested everything and asked me multiple times if I was satisfied with the work and if there was anything else that I would like done. Scott apologized for the long delays and miscommunication and I felt it was genuine. In the end the project took a long time but was eventually done right and up to a high standard. If Brian had been the one to do the initial installation I have no doubt that I would have been 100% satisfied from the get go, his attention to detail and professionalism was greatly appreciated. At least for my application, they were the best price and warranty after I did some research for my garage door. I had a great experience from the estimator to the installation of my new door. Since the door was special ordered, it took a good month almost to the day to be installed. However, it has been so, so worth it! Out with the old, in with the new.. I actually have more room now since I had the old flip-up style with 5 foot long springs. Well, one day I couldn't lift the door because one side fell off the wall completely. It was time. They are the garage door company contractor for Costco. They come out and see what you have and let you know what your options are. It was cool too because they were having a promo at the time for cash back using your Costco card and some kind of upgrade on the door as well! It was a really great deal including a new insulated door w/windows, and a garage door opener that was top of the line. TERRIBLE I don't ever write reviews, but this company was so terrible I'd feel partially responsible if I didn't say anything while they string along their next unlucky customer.. They installed a garage door 3" narrower than what I ordered, obviously the wrong size with gaps on either side and said nothing and left! Not to mention, the door was installed crooked and would groan and bind up on itself when opened, the weather strip on the bottom was cut way too short and caused a mouse problem in the garage we couldn't figure out. Their solution was a refusal to provide the right size door I ordered in the first place. They chose to CHARGE me for additional trim to cover up the opening all the way around the door that was the result of their mistake! They even required me to paint the trim they brought, forgot their nailer and compressor and had to use mine, AND STILL handed me a bill??? The opening was the right dimensions, they sent a guy out to measure before, he just measured wrong and they let the customer eat their mistake instead of handling it appropriately. I had 20 contractors on the build of our house, this was the only company that was terrible, and that I am still dealing with all this time later. Like other reviews, I'd say Alex, our most recent tech Alex was great, but this company and how it's run is an absolute dumpster fire. I'm very disappointed to have to write this because Garage Doors Unlimited came with a very high recommendation, but they failed. I made an appointment last week and they said someone would be at my house between 11am - 1pm. They never called to confirm my appointment so I called that morning to confirm and they said they had me on the schedule. They were nice enough to call the tech to find out when they would be at my home and they said someone would call when they were 20 minutes away. Remember, they were supposed to be there between 11am - 1pm and I took time off of work to be home. By 12:55pm I hadn't heard from anyone so I called to find out what was going on. As I was on the phone with one person, another person called to tell me the tech was still 20 minutes away. I work full time and had to be back to the office so there was no way I could wait any longer for the tech to show. I do not recommend doing business with them as they are inconsiderate of other people's time. read more

Garage Doors unlimited is a dishonest Co. that during our Costco installation lied and fraudulently misrepresented damaged panels of our 3 garage doors installation for replacement (10 of 15 had scratches) to later claim we only had 2 damaged panels and that we did not claim the other 8 were damaged until just after 30 days, thus being outside of warranty. We have paper work documented by our installer that shows all damages upon installation. Poway office Manager - Scott - refuses to call us back to resolve issue. We also have not received our Costco shop card (rebate) 5 Mo. after installation and 13 Mo. after purchase. read more

Had this company install a (supposedly high quality) double garage door 2 1/2 years ago. Well the arm attaching the door to the belt drive tore away from the door. The 3 inch by 3 inch attachment to the door just tore away taking that part of the door with it. This left a hole in the door exposing the insulation underneath There was NO reinforcement beneath the connecting section attached to the door! Just the plastic. They expected this little 3 inch by 3 inch steel plate attached to the plastic on the door to hold up with regular use??? When I asked about this they said it should never have happened and yet charged me $50 to put an elongated reinforcement where it should have been in the first place. Good luck to the rest of you that had this company install your door. I hope yours holds up better over time than mine did. read more

Sadly, I am very disappointed in Garage Doors Unlimited. My wife an I built a brand new custom home in Solana Beach. Garage Doors Unlimited installed our beautiful Martin Garage Door. Although our home was meticulously built and we remain so grateful to be the owners, our garage door installation has proving to be a point of frustration. The door has jammed on several occasions requiring service by GDU at a fee, and now three years after installation, the garage door installation failed, a cable breaking resulting in damaged tracks and to the expensive door which left the door tweaked in an opened, jammed position. This left the contents of our garage including our collection of 12 bikes, exposed to the public, and a car stuck in the garage that we could not get out to use. Garage Doors Unlimited couldn't give us service for several days, and upon offering service, wanted to charge us full cost for a repair and re-installation. Their warranty is merely 1 year where past companies we have worked with give lifetime warranties for materials and workmanship to the original owner of the home. They did a job for my condo complex and left 4 old doors stacked in the middle of a turn lane. My car was damaged I went through my insurance company and spoke with a rep from their company by the name of Candy. It has been a week and my very reputable insurance company says she never called them back to pass on their insurance information. I called to check in Candy was so NASTY and RUDE! When just presenting the facts from my insurance company she became very defensive cut me off in an irate manner. She refused to give me any information and hung up in my face. I ordered brand new garage doors a little over a year ago, a two-car garage door, as well as a single car garage door. They were delayed numerous times, which may or may not have been the suppliers fault. Once finally installed, I had to have the installer back out as the weatherstripping was not installed correctly & you could see into the garage from the driveway due to large gaps. We seldomly use the single car garage door, but when I did yesterday (Monday) it jammed half way with the cables in tangles. I called garage doors unlimited and I was laughed at when I asked if I could get help getting my garage door fixed (or even just closed) that day, or even this week. I ended up calling a garage door repair service & they came out and showed me how the tracks were installed too close together, which caused the garage door to jam. They moved the track over to space it correctly and it works better & quieter than before. Today Garage Doors Unlimited finally returned my call with a service appointment in a week from now. When I explained that it was a problem due to installation error, they were unwilling to help with even the weatherstripping that has still never been right. Now bear in mind , Garage Doors Unlimited has come out to my home for repairs. On a few occasions I have paid them for their service but I will say that their customer service is horrible. I have had issues with my keypad that are out of my control and they have twice in one month charged me $49 what a rip off Be careful with their customer service.
