The place was very clean, and everybody I dealt with was very friendly and helpful. It's tucked into the back of the Shell station at Bradshaw and old Placerville, but believe me, these are *NOT* your typical "gas station sandwiches." they have a decent sized menu. You can order at the counter, but I went ahead and just use the self order screen. , I ordered the Italian, with Aioli, Pepperoni, Salami, Ham, Provolone, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Oregano, and their Vinaigrette. When you pay, you also enter your phone number so they will let you know when the sandwich is ready. They were busy, as it was lunchtime. Still the sandwich came quickly. I got the text that my sandwich was ready at the same time that they called my name. The sandwich was very good. I liked their aïoli and the vinaigrette, you could tell that they were good quality, meats, and the veggies were very fresh. They were very generous with the fillings. I had it on sourdough, and it was a very good quality sourdough as well. I ordered a small sandwich, and it was enough to fill me up. For what I got, the price was extremely reasonable. I would definitely come back. Thanks for the suggestion, yelp!

Immaculate tasting food This is NO JOKE, hands down, one of the best tasting Mexican foods I've had around this area. Their beans are vegetarian which is nice if you're someone who loves Mexican food & is vegetarian Food: Birria tacos- juicy, fatty, cooked to perfection. The consume is amazing, flavorful, & has pieces of meat. Steak plate- the steak was medium rare, little char grilling to it. Seasoned well & cooked nicely. The bed or grilled squash was hands down AMAZING. I don't know how they seasoned it, but the char on the veggies were perfect. Bone marrow plate- delicious, Juicy, fatty, and filling. The flour tortillas were the perfect touch to a filling plate. Just the right amount of food There is minimal seating inside. The area was clean. There is a restroom inside as well. Overall, an amazing hole in the wall, great Mexican restaurant. The owner took our order, was kind, & attentive to us. Definitely will be recommending this place to our friends who live close by!

Tables needed wiped, floor needed swept, no ice in soda fountain, behind the counter was disorganized 2 We ordered chips and salsa and burritos. They Didn't bother to tell us the burritos included chips and salsa (we would have ordered a different side) 3 The burritos were good but were mostly rice 4 The food was way overpriced for what we received. A lot more expensive than something comparable Dos Coyotes or Chipotle 5 fountain sodas were $4+ 6 There were no Latinos working there which I find odd for a Mexican restaurant Because the place was not very clean, there was no ice, and the poor value (my husband and I can afford it but we just felt like it was comparable to paying $2.50 for a can soda from a soda machine when most machines these days are $1 per can) we will not be returning to The Char any time soon.

We had the Wild Pitch (Chicken breast with your choice of melted cheese and spicy ranch sauce), the Say Hey Kid (Hot pastrami and your choice of melted cheese), macaroni salad, and soft drinks. The Wild Pitch was on Sourdough (their bread is terrific!), huge in size and was full of chicken chunks. Very tasty and a definite do again. The Pastrami was on Sweet French (once again, wonderful), also huge and loaded with lean, thin sliced, Pastrami (probably from Sysco). I am some what of a Pastrami freak and this definitely wasn't my style. The Mac Salad was not home made and likely straight out of the bucket from Sysco. Basic salad is the best way to describe it. The sandwiches are somewhat limited in terms of proteins. Chicken and turkey dominate the starting lineup with pastrami and roast beef are pinch hitters. Totally missing are the traditional deli standards such as salami, mortadella, ham, and capicola combination sandos. Despite what the website says, they do have fountain sodas. It is Pepsi centered but lacks Pepsi Zero (it does have Diet but not the DW's fav). The website says the Pure Leaf Tea is $2.75 but was billed at $4.00. Better Pastrami and salads would have made this a 5 rating rather than a 4. We will return but only for the bread and chicken/turkey.

Review update based on how they charge you versus the pricing on the menu…read more We have been here a handful of times now and the last time was on 7/5/26. We enjoyed our order aside from noticing that portions appeared to be smaller (see images of the fair oaks burger and carrot cake). During this visit we noticed that there was a discrepancy with the charges. We asked a server because our server was busy attending to other tables and we needed to pay. We were told that it had to do with an automatic "service charge" and the other was if you paid cash you get a dollar off? For example, the Lido Shuffle on the menu says $16.95 but on the receipt we were charged $17.46 and then the burger stated $12.95 but on the receipt it was $13.34. We just think that there can be better transparency as to why there is an upcharge on items. Or they can perhaps update the menu?? When we asked the server, it appeared as though she did not know truly know the answer. While we like the food here, despite the decrease in portions, it's important for customers to know what they are paying instead of being misled.

This specific Sandwich Spot location was one of my original favorite sandwich shops of all time…read more My friend Ashley and I used to always come here and split a Cougar on Dutch Crunch, sub pastrami for turkey. Feeling nostalgic, I recently decided to have lunch here. I asked for a Cougar with pastrami instead of turkey. "You want a number 26?" (Looks at menu) "Yes, with pastrami instead of turkey." "Number 26, right?" When I had walked in, I saw two girls cleaning. One of them had stopped to take my order. After taking my order, she continued to clean for exactly ten minutes before stopping, washing her hands, and beginning to prepare my sandwich. (I'm positive that it was exactly ten minutes before she even *started* to make my sandwich, because I get a text message the minute my card is charged, so it's easy to just look at the text, and see how much time has elapsed.) As she finished making my sandwich, another guest came in. After she placed her order, the second girl washed her hands, and both girls made her sandwich together. While I had waited nearly fifteen minutes for my sandwich, this girl waited for less than two. It was so odd. As I ate my sandwich, both girls behind the counter stared at me so hard that I seriously wondered if they had done something funky to my sandwich. So, all of that was very strange. But the sandwich was good. None of the ingredients were missing. The veggies were all in ridiculously tiny quantities in comparison to the super smearing of sauce, but, it was all there, and it tasted good. When it comes to sandwiches, in terms of the meat, you get what you pay for. Sandwich Spot uses cheaper meat than some fancier delis do, but they also use a larger quantity of it. So, if you would rather have a large amount of okay pastrami versus a medium amount of great pastrami, then, Sandwich Spot is the spot for you. If you're really into premium lunch meat, though, this isn't it. The pastrami tasted like it could have come from the fridge section at Winco or Walmart. Overall, for a cheaper/lower-end sandwich place, Sandwich Spot is still one of my favorites. I love their menu, and haven't found a sandwich quite like the Cougar anywhere else.

I ordered the Barracuda, and my wife got the General Lee. Both sandwiches were served on Dutch crunch rolls that were so hard, they were nearly inedible -- my wife couldn't even finish hers because the bread hurt her mouth. Mine left the roof of my mouth sore, but I pushed through since it wasn't exactly a cheap meal. The fillings didn't help either -- the meat tasted like it had been sitting for a while especially the roast beef, and the vegetables were wilted and lifeless. The macaroni salad tasted identical to the store-bought Reser's brand, with that unmistakable aftertaste, which was disappointing. Overall, nothing felt fresh. Everything had the vibe of being prepped a day or two ago and just left to sit. I truly wish we had just gone to the grocery store instead. Sadly, this place didn't live up to the memories, and I won't be returning. Lesson learned.
