As far as video game stores go, Gametraders Marion is boss level. What really sets this place apart is the staff who expertly guard all your gaming needs and pop culture paraphernalia. This is not a den of snobbishly anti-social nerds who make you feel uncomfortable, these are friendly and helpful individuals, at least one of them is even a girl! Don't be fooled into thinking these cats are too cool to hold the keys to unlocking game knowledge though, they all know what it is you (and perhaps your child) are after. Not only that, they actually care about it too and are primed to consul you on your console. A desire to deliver superior service can sometimes slow them down a bit as they remain constantly focussed on whichever customer they're assisting and not the ever increasing line at the checkout. They won't let you walk out with the shabby display version of Mario's hat, they'll make you wait whilst they comb through their stock room to retrieve the hat of the redest red and the best embroidered M. At the time of purchase, if you're in a hurry, this may seem a tad annoying, but I bet they don't get many returns. Gametraders at Marion also host many nerd culture events throughout the year including cosplay comps, game showdowns in addition to their common awesome sales. The last time I went there it was apparently their fourth birthday celebrations and so there were many people there, and throughout the shopping centre, in full costume. What a great little store. It has a wide range of PC and console games, but more recently has added comic books to it's range. It also stocks card games, and various gaming and movie memorabilia. If you're after this sort of thing, it's a must to check out if you're at Marion. The staff are courteous, and have a good knowledge of their products. Especially useful for me when I trying to choose a new gaming console for the kids. Definitely worth a look! read more

My son is a wanna be Xbox junkie and if he had the chance to play 24/7 he would! From a mum's perspective, I really hope he learns to save money for bread and water when he leaves home. Yes a starving artist he may become but there is always the possibility he'll make a living out of what he loves...playing games on his Xbox. He already has his Gametraders loyalty card which enables him to get a discount between 3% on new games and 5% on preloved and pre ordered games - if you intend on getting one just check the conditions as the spend amounts the discounts apply to vary. I noticed on the other day they now have pre loved Atari and Sega games plus the accessories for sale...wow amazing how it all comes back around to haunt us. Besides the blast from the past, they stock all the latest gaming systems like Xbox, PS3, Nintendo and whatever else will be coming up in the future. There's also a good selection of posters to adorn the walls of teenagers' abodes, along with some awesome looking Halo replica guns (or whatever they're called) and swords, figurines galore, etc. At the front window display there's a racing car chair where kids can have a go on the PS3 racing circuit. It's the same one like they had at the Armageddon convention early last year, where Gametraders were running a competition for person who gets the fastest lap gets to win the whole shebang...I unfortunately came 3rd so no peanut butter sandwich for me! Game Traders is amazing. It may be a franchise store, but it's one of the best franchise stores ever! Not only can you get a good collection of games for any console imaginable, there's also anime DVDs and a great collection of novelty plush toys, figurines, and posters all relating to geeky-goodness. Also, if you're looking for something unique, Game Traders usually stocks interesting merchandise that you can't find in most other stores (unless they're speciality stores) such as swords from your favourite anime, or Stormtrooper helmets. My personal favourite item I have found in Game Traders is a life sized R2-D2 rubbish bin - for the low low price of $200! There may be a few stores around the place, but I really like the one in Marion out of all the ones I've been too. They seem to have a larger collection and the guys in there are always really sweet (kind of cute, too FYI). read more

My husband is a video game junkie. He'd spend all his money on games if I'd let him I'm sure. According to him, this is one of the better places to buy your ps3 and pc games from, as they have a big selection and are pretty competitively priced. They also have a loyalty card which is worth getting because means even more savings. The staff are pretty knowledgeable about the latest games, etc, and have been helpful for me in the past by offering suggestions on what games to buy for him. read more
