With these particular items it just means the store cannot sell items which are not in peak cosmetic condition. As an example which is two years old but none the less, I done some research on which TV was going to be the best for us, good quality and had the features we wanted...so we settled on a Toshiba Regza 46". I can't remember the exact amounts paid but I can tell you the difference between buying it new from a department store and new from HV outlet was $1000, as it was the model just finished and HV was making room for the next in coming model that's the reason it was at their factory outlet. That's it...we saved $1000, got full warranty, wasn't a scratch n dent and it's still going strong, best investment. It also had alot to do with being in the right place at the right time, all the stars aligned and all that jazz. Hint: Do you research online, read blogs, get specs, etc and then look for where it is for viewing, how much it costs, take into account a small portion of what the sales people tell you as they get brownie points for sales, then add it all up in the end, because it's your money and your decision not theirs. You go in there and tell the guys what you need and they show you items that might be a bit less than perfect. The great thing is that quite often, there's the tiniest of dents or scratches which is stopping them from being sold in the normal shops. The way to shop here is to go to the regular HN stores, find something you want, look at where it is going in your house and know which surfaces are not important. For example, our fridge will be against a wall on its left side, so I could have bought one with a huge scratch on that side. I ended up getting a brand new Fisher and Paykel fridge and washing machine with a hefty discount. Also, they offer an extended warranty and delivery. The fridge has a tiny dent on the front which you can barely see and the washing machine has a scratch on the side, but as it's being built in, it won't be seen. They also have TV's, coffee machines, washing machines, cooktops and ovens, heaters, air conditioners and more. Definitely worth checking out. Also, all the items are tested to check that they still work fine.

Maybe that was their point of different, but I try and stock up at toy sales for the dozens of birthday parties we go to each year. Recently, they have started offering Lego at 15-20% off. I wore them nearly everyday for a year and one day I noticed one of the heels had clean fallen off. And the other was severely worn down. On a friend's recommendation I took them to 'A' Class Shoe Repairs on Grote St. It only cost me thirty or so bucks, and the shoes were as good as new again. The owner/manager reheeled them, polished them and gave the lace hooks a few twists back into shape. If you want to make a great pair of shoes last, bring them here before it is too late. I have a small army of shoes I wear less often but still want to get fixed here - ankle stilettos, 70's knee-high boots, leather sandals. Op-shop shoes that need a fix-up are a good idea too - better than shelling out for new shoes of such poor quality that they'll disintegrate in six months. As well as shoe repairs, 'A' Class sell bus tickets, shoe care accessories, new shoes, ugg boots, and do dry-cleaning. Plus the old-fashioned typography out the front ("Heels While U Wait") is super cute.

They also sell and re-charge Metrocards, as well as stock a whole range of new shoes, laces, shoe polishes, etc. Tiny on the inside, it feels like a real cobbler shop. So now I have to take in other pairs of shoes that I've been putting off getting fixed ;)

The owners of the store also contribute towards several community projects in developing countries, largely Nepal and East Timor. In stock is the complete get up you will need to fit in, in any drum circle, a bunch of home wares are more nick nacks and paddy whacks than you can poke a stick at. Some of the craft work is really fine and, although much more expensive than if you were to buy direct, some of your contribution will still reach developing communities in the end. Of particular interest are hand painted vietnamese bamboo doors and curtains and also, my favorite, the singing bowl.

I prefer Toyworld to other toy retailers, and I'm sure a lot of that is to do with childhood memories. I also feel their range is better though. This store is pretty big, and easy to figure out. You have toys for boys, then toys for girls, toys for babies, and sporting toys. Easy. The staff are pretty good, which I think you have to be to work in a toy store (when I last went in the place was being overrun with screaming children and the assistant kept a smile on her face the whole time.

There's a fair majority of toys for sale which are collectors items, not meant to be played with and they're not cheap either. And Lego is never cheap no matter what set it is or where it's being sold and so hard to resist buying when the little one is tugging at the sleeve or having a tantrum in desperation as they just gotta have it. I remember buying a Star Wars Storm Trooper from a toy shop just like this one in Melbourne many years ago. It was packed in its original box and then in another box but it didn't stay that way for long. I was looking for a Storm Trooper about a foot high and found it and the whole idea was to get one and give it to my child as a gift to play with and enjoy, not as an investment sitting on the shelf gathering dust...what's the fun in that. Anyway, each to their own but Galaxy Toys is the best in town.
