As far as video game stores go, Gametraders Marion is boss level. What really sets this place apart…read moreis the staff who expertly guard all your gaming needs and pop culture paraphernalia. This is not a den of snobbishly anti-social nerds who make you feel uncomfortable, these are friendly and helpful individuals, at least one of them is even a girl! Don't be fooled into thinking these cats are too cool to hold the keys to unlocking game knowledge though, they all know what it is you (and perhaps your child) are after. Not only that, they actually care about it too and are primed to consul you on your console. A desire to deliver superior service can sometimes slow them down a bit as they remain constantly focussed on whichever customer they're assisting and not the ever increasing line at the checkout. They won't let you walk out with the shabby display version of Mario's hat, they'll make you wait whilst they comb through their stock room to retrieve the hat of the redest red and the best embroidered M. At the time of purchase, if you're in a hurry, this may seem a tad annoying, but I bet they don't get many returns. Gametraders at Marion also host many nerd culture events throughout the year including cosplay comps, game showdowns in addition to their common awesome sales. The last time I went there it was apparently their fourth birthday celebrations and so there were many people there, and throughout the shopping centre, in full costume. Gametraders make not only the world of Warcraft or whichever realm you visit fun, they upload it to the real world too.

What a great little store. It has a wide range of PC and console games, but more recently has added…read morecomic books to it's range. It also stocks card games, and various gaming and movie memorabilia. If you're after this sort of thing, it's a must to check out if you're at Marion. The staff are courteous, and have a good knowledge of their products. Especially useful for me when I trying to choose a new gaming console for the kids. Definitely worth a look!

Tucked in beside Foodland in the Norwood Mall, this newsagent looks super unassuming - but it's…read moreactually a pretty OK selection of mags for what is a relatively small space. While not as big as Dillon's Newsagent just across the mall (near Coles), they stock all the usual suspects. If you're after your Vogue or Elle or Frankie or other big titles you will find in on their shelves. I couldn't see many overseas titles. I've found the staff to be pretty chatty and kinda funny. Last time I went in to get Harper's (with the winner of ANTM on the cover) for a friend overseas, I ended up chatting to the guy about Australia's Next Top Model for ages...which I don't actually watch, but I winged it pretty well! Good for your basics!

Weird set up, it's like a walk through newsagency. one side is the bottle shop and the other is…read moreFoodland, people tend to use it as a thoroughfare to get to either side so it tends to get quite busy in there, for the wrong reason. Or maybe it's just really good marketing, people come out of food shopping with the kids and think "man, after that I reallllly need a beer" so they decide to take a short cut through the newsagency and along the way they decide "man, I really need a pen too". You never know. There are books available here too, last time I visited I spent a good 10 minutes leafing through a book about the life and designs of Coco Chanel, of course I didn't buy it because it was $50, besides, I'd already read it hadn't I? If I need a pen I just go in and use one and then leave, they should really monitor people like me! But, considering these guys don't, that makes them 3 stars in my book! There are little gifty things available too, take a squiz on your way through to the bottle shop.

Well this gets 5 stars because it really is one of the few decent book shops left in Adelaide and…read moreis my go to place when looking for a book. It worries me that we have so few bookshops left and I love just going in for a browse. Dillons has a good range of books on special on the tables out the front and sometimes you can pick up a bargain and I can't walk down the parade without slowing down to see what is on the table. The staff are friendly and informative and if your an artist or a craft type they are also selling a variety of art stuff these days. If you haven't been go buy something if for no other reason than to keep a bookshop alive and well.

I go to this store constantly to get presents, vouchers, and books and I was gutted when I heard Angus and Robertson was shutting down and the store was becoming something else. But since Dillons took over it has remained exactly the same. Even the bookmark displays are in their original placing. I don't understand why there is a couch near the literature section with a large sign that reads 'Couch of Goers.' What does this mean, is it a Peter Goers reference? I always forget to ask when I'm there. It is a comfortable couch, if uncommunicative. Dillon's Norwood has a massive kids range, including a whole wall floor to ceiling dedicated to childrens lit and an equally large sized kids reference section. This store has actually been a family business since 1985 and is now the largest independent bookstore in Adelaide, so they know what they're talking about. They also have an ABC shop attached, and a decent range of music up the steps. The staff are all chic and knowledgable and aloof. I tried repeatedly to get a job there years ago but lucky me, they blew me off and I ended up in payroll instead. I would have been a great employee, you stylish intellectual bastards. (Love you guys).
