Mediocre stock & pricing. But the ultimate downside of the store is the community. Outside of going with your friends it is not worth it. The card gaming community (especially magic) is always angry and arguing, you will hear another table shouting at each other from a distance. The wargaming community is not casual and filled with rules lawyers (someone almost assaulted me over rules argument and owner never responded to complaints from multiple witnesses). This store is one of the oldest LGS's in the Inland Empire, yet it's always been bottom of the barrel compared to the experience at other locations. I am a Magic The Gathering Commander player. I have been playing at this game store for a few years now. I go for the social aspect. Shop keepers are nice but the place is not clean and My Friend decided not to come anymore after one time playing on Wednesday Commander night. The Selection is pretty good, commander decks and packs are fairly priced for the game I play. The Pros: Free games of commander on Wednesdays. Affordable snacks and drinks. The Cons: The bathrooms are worse then gas Station and cheap Airports I've been to. The players in Commander night are Cliquey and we don't end up mixing players to play with which ends up feeling like being the same 8 players I play against each week, which the store can't control and just noting the atmosphere. What the shop can control is cleaning bathrooms regularly. I used to work for in Facilities and Customer service. Bathrooms here would get me fired. Trash in bathrooms don't get taken out ever. I never see it get cleaned and stocked up nicely. Bathroom is dusty and pee is commonly on the floor of the bathroom. Rob and the fellow shopkeepers and workers are nice but there is room for improvement to make this place a better place to shop and play magic. Don't go here unless you are an established customer/local! Everything new is already reserved for the locals so there's no chance of getting the latest releases. It's 50/50 that you'll be met with great customer service or workers not wanting to talk to you. The cashier was very helpful in clarifying any questions I had about the paints and shaders for the Citadel brand which allowed me to pick the best paints I needed. Their selection of Warhammer 40K minis is not that large, I would recommend getting the models from Pegasus Hobbies for that. However, I would recommend buying your paints here to save a couple cents and if you're buying a large amount of paints you'll definitely save a couple bucks. My only complaint about the store would be about some of the visitors. On my first visit I came in during a Magic tournament or game going on and there was a stench of body odor in the air. In my second visit there wasn't anyone so the store didn't smell. PSA- wear deodorant. Here's to a local chain (additional locations are Rancho Cucamonga and Pasadena) that's dedicated to the pastime of board gaming, cards, such as Magic the Gathering, and related hobbies of collecting and painting miniatures. Furthermore, they provide ample space for people to set up and play during their hours of operation, which is great for games that exceed the three-hour time frame. Only a few basic rules, no outside food, no drinking alcoholic beverages, and no smoking (that means vape pens too). Pretty straightforward, no? It was my first time visiting this store, it was a tad tricky because it's located deep in the business center precisely in the Southwest portion where Foothill (Route 66) meets Mountain Avenue. Ample parking was available, and the drove of available tables inside was also pleasing. I arrived before my buddy did so I claimed a spot and browsed the surprisingly vast collection of games for Demo and Loaning, provided you only play in-house. Some used games occupied a number of shelves and also pre-painted miniatures for sale. Nothing spectacular there, however. In the way back are tables dedicated to historically dramatic games, especially Warhammer by GW. In fact, this miniatures game drives the painting hobby to great heights of artistic style. As such, a substantial amount of support products crowd the front retail space. Lots of paints by Citadel Colour, brushes, hobby knives, basing materials for your finished models, the works! Anyhow, we played a boardgame we imported, Conan by Monolith. Three scenarios took about 6-hours altogether in between chatting, pit stops in their wonderfully clean bathrooms, and buying drinks and snacks. This is how you support such an establishment. Curious employees and other gamers stopped by to watch or ask questions. Overall, the atmosphere is friendly and vibrant. It was fairly busy the entire time we were there but that made it more fun. People of all ages although I might have been the minority age-wise, it was a good time. Whether you want to purchase a game or need card sleeves or dice, this is a well-stocked shop. read more

Just started to collect again and I purchased about 50 first edition Pokemon cards, just wanted to Walk in to get some help maybe on what cards should be on the top of my list to get graded. Walked into a completely empty store only me and the employee when I asked if he could help he said "not for free" "I wouldn't do that unless you're selling them" "just go online". Gameology was my first ever card shop I've entered with cards to sell & sean really is the yugioh guy.hes him. Evaluated my collection & racked up 389$. Now that's a A1 employee who knows the value of cards and won't downplay or low-ball. From them on id swing over monthly to see my good buddy Sean to sell , trade and talk card stuff but as of recently I've been seeing new workers who seem under qualified, unitrested in the job and give no fucks what so ever. I'm talking about that loaf mongoloid with the glasses. I asked him what's a price on a card and he had the audacity to tell me he doesn't know and to check tcg player. I left my phone in the car I replied to him saying "that sucks". I don't think it's hard to get a general idea of a cards price from a display case holding no more than 15 cards. As the immortal king of Shurima, I find this place to be racist. Keep in mind I am not human, therefore many people find my presence to be intimidating or compelling. It's very difficult to find a nesting spot where I can play MTG on my off time without questionable slander about my race. The staff here was friendly but failed to cater to my needs when I asked them if they had a special restroom for immortal sentinel beings. The staff looked at me confusingly and asked if I needed to use the men's room? Do I look like a guy to you? I am Azir the immortal king of Shurima. The place nonetheless has an open community for card players that I am fond of. If you are non human I advice bringing a human suit for disguise. Otherwise you will have a difficult time with all the weebos fan boying you or disdaining you for being uniquely alien. Overpriced cards, terrible customer service. If you are a card player, this is not the store for you. I made one trip here (pre-covid) and I was overcharged after getting incredibly incorrect information over the phone about stock. Mind you, I drove from 30 miles out on this information. There are many other great options within 50 miles, and I guarantee you will do better choosing any other store. Shop owner regularly tries to sow discord in the community that we all love. I went in to get some information on magic the gathering because I'm new to playing the game and have no idea what I'm doing. The guy that I talked to was very rude and condescending and instead of helping me he basically brushed me off and told me to look online and figure it out myself. Store is nice and the staff are friendly. I've been to the Pasadena shop and although it's not as nice it still holds its own. The biggest strike against them is they DO NOT BUY CARDS! The shop owner is instilling a "store credit" rule and it's a really cheap tactic. I'm coming from the LA area and all the shops there (Frank and Sons included) buy cards. They have booming business and are buying/selling cards at the same price as shops in the IE (few that there are). Came here with a friend. This place was full of people playing various games: D&D, War Hammer, Yu-Gi-Oh and other card games. There were several tables available; plenty spacious. Assuming the cashier is the owner, he approached us and asked if we needed help with anything and he showed us around the stuff that we were looking at. He opened the display case for us to check out the figurines. We did not feel any sort of upsell from his part, so we didn't feel uncomfortable. He was courteous and respectful. Prices were reasonable for their items in the store. The owner also mentioned that they have game nights and a different game every night. We mainly play D&D and there was a guy in the back that does a lot of GM/DM for games all around; good to know. read more

My husband and I entered this small shop and noticed some kind of event going on. This being said, staff was pretty busy getting everyone settled in, but this was our first time there so we walked up to the counter to ask about Magic cards, as my husband is a beginner and I never played. The person helping us happened to be the owner of the store and he was just so friendly, so incredibly helpful, and he even helped us keep to our budget! We walked out feeling super excited to play with our new cards. Since that initial visit a month ago, we've gone back three times. I will note someone mentioned not being greeted. This is true of most staff, but we've noticed events happening every time we've set foot in there and staffing is kept light so if you have a question, just ask the employees, they really do help a lot when you have the confidence to go up to them. read more

Several Employees walked around us & dodged us without once asking if we needed help or suggestions. When we walked in & left there was no greeting either. I recently visited the store for the first time with high expectations, but was disappointed with my experience. While I understand it was busy game night, I felt that the pricing for the cards was higher than the market value and the employee named "Sean" was inflexible with negotiations at all. Wouldn't even negotiate 1 penny less even if I wanted to buy multiple cards that are already Above Market price. Additionally, I had to wait 10 minutes before being assisted and despite my intention to make a significant purchase, I was unable to reach any agreement with the owner. For a store that only does store-credit they really are inflexible despite your best effort to pay in cash. For those who know me in the pokemon community I suggest you stay away there's not much for you here. read more

I was really thrilled to find a local card shop. The first few visits were great! But then when they started charging scalper prices for cards this shop lost all credibility in my eyes. $120 for an elite trainer box....$40 for a pin set. Come on! If I want to be jerked around I would simply go on eBay. I get these businesses are taking a hit right now. The employee who explained why the owner jacked the prices up didn't seem too thrilled about it either. A raise in price is understandable. But trying to triple your profits when you pay even less for the cards you sell is pretty ridiculous. The staff is pretty nice. There are a few, including who I wouldn't call very personable. But they are willing to answer questions. The owner is a friendly guy. Excited about his new store in Pasadena. Hopefully he finds a way to run his business without gouging his customers. If this place ever goes back to not ripping off customers I'll be back, otherwise I will stick with buying from scalpers on eBay or getting lucky at Walmart. read more

Gameology is a neat little gaming store in Upland that I have visited three times now. The people working there seem like good people who let you browse without bothering you and still check up on you if you need help. They'll assist you if you need anything and will answer questions with a lot of courtesy and politeness. So why 3 stars? Oh my god the smell. This is hardly entirely the fault of the owner or the workers, but the odor when you step inside the store is immediately noticeable and almost stings your eyes. My friends, who don't really game, liked the neat store but could not stand the stink of the customers within. I will, with as much respect as possible, suggest to the store that they should please spray Febreeze or something or require customers to shower or put on deodorant before coming. Cheers! My wife and I were looking for a gift for a friend, who collects table-top games. It would have been nearly impossible for us to find him a great game that he doesn't already have on my own. We went into Gameology and the representative was super helpful. He picked out a handful of games in my price range that he said he'd be "really surprised" if my friend owned. This is a really neat store, definitely one of the better game stores I've ever been to. It's slightly smaller than Game Empire in Pasadena and definitely bigger than Aero Hobbies in Santa Monica. All three are good stores that have a nice selections. I agree with Brian T's statement that this is primarily a board game store -- WH40K people will need to go to Game Empire. Gameology has a good selection of mainstream to niche audience board games, but what sets this place apart is the staff's attention to detail. When I stepped in, the guy behind the counter was actually ... not behind the counter. He was explaining some collectible card game to a customer, move by move. They had a list posted by the German board games of the top sellers for the month, and in the back they had tables set up for open play. Now here's what's AWESOME about this place -- game rentals! To my knowledge, no other place does this. Don't wanna spend $70 on a copy of Agricola without trying it 10 times first? No problem, you can rent a copy to play in the store for $2 (free on Thursdays), or $10 to take it home for 3 days. They'll even apply that $10 to the purchase of a new copy of whatever game you rented. I am definitely planning on coming on a Thurs night and making some new friends to play free games with! read more

Awesome card store! I went to their website and looked up Magic: The Gathering FNM draft times (6:30) and called to make sure one was scheduled for the day. The employee on the phone confirmed. However, when I arrived I was informed that draft usually only fired AFTER standard finished around 9:30! I was sad and a little annoyed that the employee hadn't mentioned that important detail. It was too late to draft somewhere else. So why is this review still 5 stars? Luckily the owner of the store was super friendly and lost no time asking me if I was new to town etc. that doesn't usually happen at most stores. Honestly, unfortunately, card game nerd stereotypes about social skills are often accurate. Anyway, I felt very welcome. The owner also informed me that Commander games fired with regularity starting around 7:00. By 7 only one other Commander player had shown up (what can you do?) so I figured that was that. Time to go home. Not so! The owner loaned out his own personal (and very pricey) Commander deck to a regular who joined for a three player game. From the little I saw of the Commander environment it seemed like it was mostly fun but not entirely casual playgroup. No turn 2 kills but people knew what they were doing. My husband came in while I was finishing up my second commander game and the owner was nice enough to see that he was just standing around waiting and let him borrow a board game to play while he waited a few minutes. Just very nice. Anyway, it was a blast! I even scored a promo card as a consolation prize (the draft never happened after all). Seemed like a very healthy standard environment and usually commander playgroups meet on Mondays and Wednesdays. Didn't see much evidence of legacy/modern, but I wasn't looking either. The store is a bit plain looking (could use some playmats or posters on the walls) but has plenty of space and a decent board game selection. There are single cards for sale at reasonable prices and a large tabletop gaming area for warhammer or something. One thing I thought was really cool is you are able to rent games in the store to try them out! I advise calling before you want to go to an event - ask specific questions like does it usually start on time? Do enough people usually show up? Still, I highly recommend this store for both novice and experienced players! read more

Now a year later I run my own dungeons and dragons campaign at home and Gameology provides all the supplies a new or old Dungeons and Dragons play could want. I also play Pokémon TCG. They offer weekly tournaments and are constantly in stock with the newest and latest cards. At a fair local card shop price! They have a ton of other games available to play and whenever I start my next hobby I will be for sure stopping by my local Gameology for great deals and to keep up to date with all the new and great games available. Extremely rude and smug staff, there are some really nice guys but 80% are so scummy. It smells it's dirty the staff is lazy. I tried to look closer at the commons they had and From behind someone says "don't go back there" I was just trying to read the boxes.. I was gonna spend MONEY because I needed to build 4 new Pokémon decks and due to the rudeness I decided to take my business else where. I've purchased things from them multiple times but since I'm not a smelly guy who hangs around there they treat me like a newbie I show up buy what I need and leave- well not anymore. Went in to buy some cards guy couldn't take time away from looking at his new Digimon cards that cant be sold till "tommorrow" that should've been my first clue so i bought a few packs of some magic cards and noticed they were super loose ive bought alot of different card packs from alot of different card games and none have felt like that then i start to open them when i get home and they've all been resealed so wasted my money and definitely wont return i don't recommend buying unless ur buying a box set and can tell for sure it hasnt been tampered with read more
