On some occasions I have paused at the Starbucks cafe. Two years ago it was a common spot to be with my son as he applied for college scholarships. I can't imagine the number of books the store holds. Every category outlined and clearly marked. Other items to buy include calendars, journals, music, home decor, writing supplies, games, Legos, toys, magazines, and more. I watched several people walking around with 2-3 books in hand. A featured author was also visiting and speaking with customers about their new book. Associates restocked books and helped customers. Labor Day weekend included several tables of books marked at 50% off. Others are comparable prices and you'll always find aisles of marked down books. Unsure what to buy? Pick up a gift card. Plenty of parking in the private lot.

I recently stopped by Target to grab a few things and wanted to take a picture while I was there,…read moreso I needed to use one of the store's electric scooters due to my mobility limitations. When I walked in, there was only one scooter available, and it appeared to be fully charged. Unfortunately, after I sat down and started to use it, it died almost immediately near the entrance. Because of my physical limitations, I wasn't able to move it myself and had to call for assistance. The employees were polite, but I was disappointed that no one checked the other entrance to see if another scooter was available. Instead, they told me one scooter was out of service and the other two were in use. As I was leaving, I saw another scooter, so I'm not sure if that was one that had been in use or if it had actually been available. I understand that equipment can malfunction, but working mobility scooters are an important accessibility resource for customers who rely on them. It would be helpful if they were checked regularly to make sure they're charged and operational, and if staff could verify availability at both entrances before telling customers there aren't any available. I hope this was just an isolated incident because I usually enjoy shopping at Target. I just wanted to share my experience in hopes that accessibility can continue to improve for those of us who depend on these scooters.

Where you spend your time and your money matters more than ever. It certainly has for me. Normally, this is an incredible store; but it's the little bad patterns of rudeness that can cause a sea change in customer loyalty. I suspect Kohls is big enough to absorb that if they are willing to tolerate clerks who are mad at the customers for not know which place to stand or what to ask for. Prior to my experience that day, an older lady needed to make a "unaccompanied receipt" return which the clerk was glad to loudly explain beforehand catching my attention, but then when not addressing the waiting people by the Amazon desk, when someone was brave enough (me) to ask a simple question of if someone was working that line (which has always been the norm, even when its moved back and forth across the store from one area to the other) the response was stunning, because the clerk noted that Kohls differentiated between "paying customers" and those using a "free return service". Says it all I think- defining instantly that the money I had intended on spending there on a new coffee machine after I had handled my return, would not be done there.. as I am not a paying customer. Oddly enough, the woman behind me was asking the same question and she seemed offended. Not sure what was said when I left, but I said simply "Ok, you all heard her" and I left. To their credit, the Kohls online customer service understood the angst and disappointment this clerk caused me, and they've apologized. It's really caused me to think that people are surely not stupid and ignorant enough to realize how money moves people? If we feel appreciated and kindly treated, we spend money. Spending money ensures jobs stay (not always of course). I suspect she was having a bad day- but wow. Just wow. A decade of shopping there over in an instant because of one rude clerk? Maybe so. I know if I stated any of my clientele were less important than any of my others, I'd be fired- maybe that says something about the higher expectations my employers have. Their management is incredible which is the reason I am not 100% against shopping there again- maybe the lady was new, maybe she was not getting the support she needed- she was moving slowly, which can be common when brand new- not sure. As for cons: the coupon games, I just dont play them anymore. On the upside, I saved $599, because I decided to not spend any of my "free" time there vs the "paying" customers.
