Visiting San Francisco for the first time in 19 years, I made it a mission to find a game store. The closest one was about a mile away, so I walked from The Clancy in SoMa with one goal: buy the new 2024 D&D Monster Manual. That's my rule: if I step into a game or comic shop, I have to buy something. It's a hard habit to break at this point. From the outside, the store looks massive -like it might contain the multiverse. But once inside, the retail selection isn't quite as big as it appeared to be. BUT... it's got great stuff. Solid board game options. Plenty of space for RPGs and card games. It's the kind of store that's clearly built around social gatherings and play. Spacious and not cramped. A rare find in a city setting. There's an upstairs and downstairs, but those seemed more dedicated to table games you can meet up and play rather than shopping, so I didn't explore too much. The staffer working was friendly and helpful. She even checked if they had the new Monster Manual. Unfortunately, they didn't. That was a letdown. I mean, it's been out for months. If a game store doesn't carry the NEW core D&D books, especially right after a new edition drops, it stings a bit. They had plenty of the original 5e, but not the new. Still, I wasn't leaving empty-handed. Picked up a slick set of dice and the softcover Pathfinder 2E Monster Core Pocket Edition. Gotta support the cause. Overall? I'm glad I found the place. It's a real hangout spot. Honestly, throw in some coffee and comfy chairs, and I'd post up there for hours. Coffee and dice----- it just works right? Note: The 5-stars is a soft 5 because it really doesn't deserve a 4. I just wasn't floored and wowed by the place in general. 4.5 would be perfect. But a 5 it is DESPITE they didn't have what I came to get. read more

Diana has curated a really awesome space for nerds, particularly those who love Warhammer, D&D, and Magic: the Gathering. This is a great gathering space to hang out and do nerd stuff. So far I've only shown up to do painting night (with a completely unrelated craft project, cuz I was accompanying my partner), and everyone I've met through the store's (very organized) Discord server has been lovely and inviting. Diana was also happy to let me know about their weekly D&D night. Only con is probably that if you're more interested in the board games side of games, there's a decent but relatively small selection compared to other game stores in the area. But I'll definitely keep coming back for the warm service and cool community. read more

I've been a long-time customer and have spent thousands of dollars at this store. On a recent visit, I asked the owner whether pricing could be adjusted to reflect current market values (or at least a slight reduction), as Pokémon card prices have declined significantly. Rather than addressing the question professionally, the owner reacted defensively, described the inquiry as insulting, and justified pricing well above market by citing general business overhead. While operating costs are part of any retail business, they do not explain prices that significantly exceed prevailing market rates, nor do they warrant a dismissive or adversarial response to a reasonable question. This interaction demonstrated a lack of professionalism and transparency toward an informed, repeat customer. It's not my fault the market has gone down. Your investment went down, the natural thing to do is understand the market goes up and down, not gouge your customers trying to make it back. Based on this experience, I would advise prospective buyers to research current market prices before purchasing here and to be aware that questioning pricing may not be well received. As a result, I no longer feel comfortable recommending or returning to this store. read more

Stopped in with a very newbie question: how to find Pokémon expansion packs for my 6-year-old. I didn't end up buying anything that day, but the shop owner was incredibly kind and patient--took the time to explain the current shortage, what to expect, and even gave me helpful tips on where/how to try to find packs online and when they might get more in-store. I've visited a few shops recently and this was the only place where someone genuinely took the time to walk me through it. That kind of service really stands out. I'll absolutely be back to support them, and I'd recommend this shop to any gamers, collectors, or hobbyists. read more

Never knew there was such a large gaming shop downtown! I came in to pick up some card sleeves for an upcoming trading card tournament. The shop is close to the Giants Stadium and the parking was pretty easy with only $0.50 per hour at that time. I bet during Giant Games it's gonna be more expensive and not as easily accessible to park. We parked half a block away. As stated, the shop is very large with 3 floors. The main floor has all the merch for your card and Warhammer itch. There are a painting station and an entertainment area with a couch and tv in the back. The upstairs floor is private rooms and offices. The basement is all dedicated to tournaments and a large gathering area. This is a very specialized shop that covers Magic the Gathering and Warhammer. I would love it if they carry other TCGs in the future. I hope more folks find out about this place and come by. read more

None of us had been here before, but the owner was super welcoming and hospitable. There's a great selection of games. We were able to come in and play one of the open card games for an hour or so. One of the best game stores in the Bay Area. Their staff are true gamers and offer a wide variety of boardgames, card games, miniatures and also offer classes in miniature painting, gameplay, etc. i'm so glad they have re-opened during COVID-19 because I truly love their customer service, knowledge, inventory of cool games. I walked by the store today early in the day and decided to stop by after work since I'm interested in getting back into gaming. I walked into the store and was greeted by Diana. I told her about getting back into the hobby and she told me about the different gaming nights they have and asked what I was interested in; D&D is something I'm wanting to get back into as well as warhammer. We nattered about various games as I explored the store and asked for recommendations for a starter set for warhammer and she made a recommendation. I acted on her recommendation and purchased a set as well as paint for the mini's (I love mini's). I would have stayed longer, but need to get to the train. I really liked the vibe and the fact that Diana took time to tell me about the current gaming scene, giving an honest recommendation and describing her vision of what the store will become was a big plus. Randomly was in the area from L.A. and the Store Manager, Eric, was so kind and helpful. I ended up playing a game of 40k against him and it ended up being pretty epic. The place is HUGE. It has 3 stories (they're building out the basement now) and has potential to be a place for mid-sized tournaments once construction is done. Got some awesome, random bases and some other hobby stuff from there as well. read more

I've been to Friday night Magic the Gathering drafts here a few times, and my husband goes pretty much every Friday. The space is huge which is unlike pretty much all the other game stores in the city that host Magic nights. You actually have space here to play and there's a lot of great people who are regulars. It's a good time! The store has other gaming events throughout the week and has a lot of different tabletop games and accessories. The owner is really what makes this place special, though. Diana is friendly and knowledgable and always enthusiastic to teach people about different games. I've seen her play games with customers that have walked in and are interested in learning about a game. It's a really special store! read more

Drop in for a game or some painting lessons. Event schedule is growing: Wednesday night 40k, Magic tournaments, and we are looking at running 40k tourneys in the future. I moved here from the east coast a few months ago and was looking for a nice and friendly place to go for Friday Night Magic. The owner, Diana, is so nice and the crowd is so friendly and open that it has been a great transition. Folks are so nice that I have actually branched out to Commander and Modern. Even though I rarely win, all the experienced players are constantly offering advice on both strategy and ways to improve my play. Diana is also steadily improving the store and its offerings as Diana "tries to build a nice Magic community". So . . . If you want a place to go where you can completely be yourself and be accepted, this is a great choice Diana has also embraced virtual FNM now that COVID has changed everything. read more

Fantastic game store in SOMA. Haven't played Warhammer 40k in over a decade, and was convinced to get back into the game after spending an evening with the community there. Store is still growing, but has a great core for miniatures and MTG. Excited to see how this store evolves in the near future. Additional note: the owner Diana is fantastic and has some great ideas about how to build out the space into a gaming haven in SOMA.
