We came in on a Sunday afternoon. There was some street parking though most spots were occupied but we lucked out and got parking as someone was coming out. The store was not super crowded when we arrived, maybe just one other group playing and a few customers. The entrance area is a small store area with select games on sale. You go through the store and there are 4 gaming rooms in the back. The first is darker, like a tavern with wooden floors and lower ceiling. Then it opens up to the library with a taller ceiling (because there is a second floor balcony but it's for employees). On the side is a D&D/rpg room that looks really cool. And then in the back is another gaming area where some tables can be reserved. I love that the library isn't cluttered and games are arranged alphabetically and even the shelves are labeled. It's so you can easily spot games and not be overwhelmed. They have the archive - a QR code is available - which is the bulk of this private library of which you can request games. And like any proper library, there is a cart where you can return used games to so someone can check it to make sure the game is complete. Each game even has a little map on the box indicating the shelf it belongs to - so cute! I like that there are different seating arrangements - a fancy game table, smaller intimate game tables, a couch and coffee table, and a large table for bigger groups. There are no food or snacks, but someone from the store brought in a box of coffee and there is a water dispenser with plastic cups. I wish there were some napkins available and maybe a hand sanitizer or something - we brought scones in and I had to wait for the bathroom to get some tissue for my hands. There is one bathroom and it was pretty clean. I didn't notice the pull down toilet seat cover - so maybe it was more designed for men? This may have been there but providing feminine products for free would be helpful and thoughtful - period equity. I would be impressed. Also, with the winter months and people going indoors, covid or not, respiratory disease is still a thing. Maybe it's there or not, but air filters would be something I would look for - keep employees and customers healthy. The board game selection is pretty good - you can check their website for an updated list. The collection includes Monopoly and Fluxx, but also Ark Nova and A Feast For Odin. They also have shelves with recommendations by staff members which is reminiscent of book stores. I liked that one of the shelves has commonly used accessories like trays for cubes/pieces, glass weights, white board markers, timers, basically anything you would want. I don't know if there was a set of fancy poker chips or general game mats; I'll have to look next time. I did see a small nook with game mats but I assumed they were for specific games. I also like that they have membership and non-membership options. They have board game events for beginners and also for more competitive players so the store is really working to reach out all levels of board gaming. I did not see Magic or Lorcana cards on display like I often see, but maybe I missed them. I did not notice any war games or miniatures brands. The staff seemed to be friendly and on top of things. The other customers were pleasant. There was a wide range of games played - one group played monopoly and another was playing whatever comes with a big roll out map. This location is a prime example of how a board game store should be. The store was clean, not cluttered, the location is decorated artfully - wherever you are there is something interesting to look at, staff and customers are pleasant, bathrooms are clean, the library has a wide variety of games - new, old, or even fancy deluxe versions that may be unaffordable to the average person. Well done. Library: https://www.dogpatch.games/games

We walked across Dogpatch Games and their amazing display and we were hooked! ---------------------------------------- A M B I A N C E ---------------------------------------- The walls are covered in board game boards and pieces! There was a stream of Twilight Imperium tournament projected on one wall. There were also a shelf of opened games to play there but because of COVID-19 the store closed that portion of the space. Can't wait for this to reopen! This would be such a COOL place to hang out once the pandemic is over! ---------------------------------------- S E R V I C E ---------------------------------------- Shannon was SO helpful. He knew so much about games! Even though his arm was in a sling, he had a beer in one hand and coffee in the other and recommended games to us. Also...Shannon said that the store has a VERY liberal return policy hahaha. I don't know what that means....BUT we walked out to discuss privately what game we wanted to buy and then walked back in and bought that game (Patchwork by the way, we love Uwe Rosenberg). And then we asked him about another game (The Mind) and he explained it to us and we promptly bought the new game and returned the first game HAHAHA. And Shannon was totally chill and onboard! You're the best Shannon! They use Clover (or something similar to that) so it was easy to do returns! ---------------------------------------- O V E R A L L ---------------------------------------- There are SO MANY GAMES HERE! Ranging from Catan to all the complicated expansions like Spirit Island: Jagged Earth, Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra, My Little Scythe! SO GREAT. Also... lots of Uwe Rosenberg games! I WILL BE BACK. I would love to hang out here. Such a great option that's not a bar! I personally don't drink so this is great. Can't wait for COVID-19 to be over so we can nerd out here!

Upscale Board Game Shop with lots of games for purchase and for rent! The shared games are well-organized and cared for. The staff was knowledgable and helpful. They had a lot of experience and were able to give really in depth descriptions of games and estimate the play times really well. We rented a table for 4 which was a great experience! Dog Patch is also dog friendly, so I was able to bring in my well-behaved pup. They allow outside food and drinks as well! There are lots of boba places close by to grab food from.

I love this place! First of all, the owner is incredible and I met him right when the place started. The service is great - we were playing Everdell and he literally walked my group of 4 through how to play the entire game and spent so much time with us. The vibes here are great for just hanging out and spending time together with friends - they have literally every game and the prices are so cheap and worth it. In love with this place and will come again!

Date night event. I'm impressed! Food from Marcella's Lasagneria -- best lasagna in SF.

My husband and I are huge Pokemon fans and we love to open and collect cards. But with the surging popularity of this hobby, many stores such as Target, GameStop, and other collectible places sometimes increase their prices, so it's not worth it to buy them overpriced. Gamescape keeps their prices as MSRP and their staff is very friendly. They keep it simple and easy with their Pokemon trading card items behind the counter and if they have more, they'll tell you and if they're not, they're out. None of that "hiding items from customers" nonsense that you see from other stores because they want to keep it for themselves, and etc. I also appreciate them accepting our donations of Pokemon items and accessories such as playmats, dice, binders, etc. After opening Pokemon cards, my husband and I do not need 10+ playmats, bunch of dice, and countless binders. With all of these in "never used" conditions, we would rather donate them to kids who would appreciate them more and have fun with them. I definitely do not want to sell those to kids or others as well, since they are free items with the Pokemon cards. Gamescape accepted our donations and was very appreciative. Thank you Gamescape for being one of the few places who sells their Pokemon items at MSRP and allowing us to enjoy this hobby without burning our $$$ too much lol

Visiting San Francisco for the first time in 19 years, I made it a mission to find a game store…read more The closest one was about a mile away, so I walked from The Clancy in SoMa with one goal: buy the new 2024 D&D Monster Manual. That's my rule: if I step into a game or comic shop, I have to buy something. It's a hard habit to break at this point. From the outside, the store looks massive -like it might contain the multiverse. But once inside, the retail selection isn't quite as big as it appeared to be. BUT... it's got great stuff. Solid board game options. Plenty of space for RPGs and card games. It's the kind of store that's clearly built around social gatherings and play. Spacious and not cramped. A rare find in a city setting. There's an upstairs and downstairs, but those seemed more dedicated to table games you can meet up and play rather than shopping, so I didn't explore too much. The staffer working was friendly and helpful. She even checked if they had the new Monster Manual. Unfortunately, they didn't. That was a letdown. I mean, it's been out for months. If a game store doesn't carry the NEW core D&D books, especially right after a new edition drops, it stings a bit. They had plenty of the original 5e, but not the new. Still, I wasn't leaving empty-handed. Picked up a slick set of dice and the softcover Pathfinder 2E Monster Core Pocket Edition. Gotta support the cause. Overall? I'm glad I found the place. It's a real hangout spot. Honestly, throw in some coffee and comfy chairs, and I'd post up there for hours. Coffee and dice----- it just works right? Note: The 5-stars is a soft 5 because it really doesn't deserve a 4. I just wasn't floored and wowed by the place in general. 4.5 would be perfect. But a 5 it is DESPITE they didn't have what I came to get.

Secondly the employee from the back came out to "answer" our questions, which he also was offended we were inquiring about a set that came out 6 weeks ago. He informed us we were "6 weeks late". He then proceeded to tell us incorrect information about the sets. Which feels was done on purpose. Pricing? These are scalpers, unauthorized resellers.
