The following silver balayage done by a different stylist, not Catherine, had no silver in it. When I asked the stylist why there was no silver she said, "Your hair base is white so what's the point of silver?" and so I have a bit of a dirty blond look. I was disappointed more about the interaction I had with her than the dullish brown stripes in my hair plus all the additional hidden charges that brought the stated $320 price for partial balayage to over $500. But I do love my haircut and the awful color will grow out. Salon is peaceful and clean.

I got an awesome Sunday appointment, it was easy to book online, the vibe is welcoming, and I got a phenomenal haircut. It looked so cute when I left and much healthier than what I walked in with. Because of Chinese New Year coming up, I was yet again forced to cut my hair for good luck. The…read moreonly good haircut experience I had was with Allen back at his old job location but when I found out he left, I was wondering where would I cut my hair now??? Of course with the power of social media, I saw that my friend got her hair cut by Allen who was now at Ryanjacobie! I was excited to make an appointment with a groupon that I found for a deep-conditioning treatment + haircut for less than $50 -- what a steal! When I made my appointment, I asked who I was assigned to and I was told it would be Allen, yay! Following Yelp's directions, I took the bus and walked to where I was supposed to be but I kept circling around this one area trying to find the shop...the map said I was here yet it was nowhere to be found??? I read more about the location in the Yelp reviews and tips before I finally found it! It was literally right across Hawaii National Bank. The reason why it was so hard to find was because their sign was stolen so you could easily walk by without noticing. Thank goodness I'm an early bird because I still had 15 minutes to spare before my appointment time. Now I thought Allen would be taking care of me but instead Siera came out and said she would be helping me today. I was slightly sad because I was told Allen would be my stylist but it wasn't really a big deal since Siera definitely delivered as well! It was a bit awkward at first because there wasn't really any talking and she didn't really explain to me how the deep-conditioning treatment would work until I asked her. It was more of her telling me where to go and what to do. It definitely did get better as we started chatting. She helped me fix my previous haircut and made a miracle happen when she curled my hair and got it to stay for the night! I was in love and left the shop a happy customer.

Think of the episode of Seinfeld titled "The Barber". In this episode, Jerry gets a bad haircut after trying to avoid his regular barber, Enzo, by getting a cut on Enzo's day off and seeing his brother to cut his hair. Well that's what kind of happened to me. I had a bad haircut from my "regular" hair-stylist, so I went to someone else who's name is Janet. I've been with her ever since. I really like this place she ended up because there is lots of parking and they validate for 3 hours so after I cut my hair, I can hangout and get a bite to eat which is pretty cool in downtown Honolulu. This place rents chairs out to different individuals. Come down and check out Janet or one of the other talented hair-stylists.

Mitzi, obviously in a rush, failed to properly measure my hair for a hair donation. The whole reason I decided to cut my hair short was to donate my hair (for the 3rd time)to Wigs for Kids. However, instead of the minimum 12 inches, she cut 10 1/2 when she was more than capable of slowing down, measuring, and cutting off the appropriate amount. Over 3 years of growth absolutely wasted because she couldn't take her time. Wigs for Kids and a child with hair loss will have one less wig because Mitzi did not care. When I called to let her know, she was extremely dismissive and offered an insincere apology. I will not be back. I do not recommend Mitzi or a salon that does not care about providing the bare minimum.

Made an appointment with Edy, owner of The Myxx, and true to form, I received clear instructions--via text--regarding parking, entering building, etc. I immediately felt comfortable and confident knowing that I would be well prepared for the day of visit. PARKING: Easy to find a spot, as there are designated stalls as well as street parking. Be sure to sign in upon entering. BUILDING: Waze app was awesome in leading me right to the venue. I liked knowing the building is secured; a code is needed to enter. SALON: Located up a few stairs (beautiful entry way); glass doors show you the way in to an intimate, cozy space. Edy had a hand in the design of the space: earthy tones with a nice mix of urban and modern lines. Such a comfortable spot! It's obvious that Edy takes pride in her space, as the salon is clean and everything has its place. CUSTOMER SERVICE: We were offered something to drink upon entering. (Not used to that kind of service at a salon) Charmaine assists with a great hair wash and massage. Edy worked diligently and checked in with my daughter to ensure they were both on the same page. In the end, my daughter was thrilled with her healthy cut and styling. I just learned that The Myxx has a part-time barber, appointment only: Thursday-Saturday. I'll be bringing my son in for sure! After waiting over three months to cut my hair because of the COVID-19 situation, I was so eager to…read morecut my hair because I have never had my hair get this long since I was in High School and it was out of control. But when they announced that they were opening Hair Salons again, I was so eager to get a haircut and what better way to get a haircut when my wife asked me to get a his and her haircut appointment with her regular Hair Stylist who she's been seeing for years now. Just the thought of having a Hair Stylist from Japan got me all excited because the last time I got a haircut in Japan it was an amazing experience and let's just say that Naoko from Axis Hair didn't disappoint. It was like being in Japan once again and her attention to detail from start to finish was what you would expect from a Japanese Hairstylist. It all started with a Shampoo and Head Massage and I swear that felt so amazing. That head massage almost knocked me out. Then it was time for the Hair Cut and from the start I knew I was in good hands. Great technique and although English isn't her strong point , she made me feel at ease. Her technique is simply amazing . You can just tell she's a seasoned pro and a perfectionist. She even trimmed around my eyebrows to make sure it was evened out. When all I was said and done, I was blown away at how perfect my haircut was. She made sure everything was even on both sides and just looking at myself in the mirror I was very happy with the end result. I'm gonna say this , it wasn't cheap getting a Shampoo and Cut but it was worth every cent and if I had the chance I would see Naoko every time I needed a Haircut I would do it in a heartbeat but my pockets aren't that deep to see Naoko every two weeks. Now I know why my wife has been seeing Naoko all these years. Naoko is the owner and only Hair Stylist here and she is so busy that she sees only her regulars and doesn't need the business because she's always booked and booking ahead is a definite must. One thing my wife noticed about Naoko is that she's very Clean and Thorough throughout the process. It's those little things that my wife sees that I don't. What an amazing experience at Axis Hair Salon.....

What I love about the Japanese culture is every worker greets you as you walk into their business/store, so I was immediately greeted and felt welcomed. I waited for a few minutes (good taste in music, right up my alley--Norah Jones, instrumentals to old school R&B and covers of Keyshia Cole). Took a seat and Naoko (the owner) asked what I wanted. For anyone going to a new salon that you've never been to before - you come prepared with detailed photos so there's no confusion, right? Right. So I was prepared. She gave me her advice since I showed her multiple pictures and said what she thought would work best with my hair type. After reaching an agreement, off to the shampoo-ing. Can I just say, I literally took a nap while I was getting my hair washed. The head massage was AMAZING! And, this was the first time that I went to a salon that they completely covered my face so I couldn't feel the little water splatters (which made it easier to relax). Very thorough shampoo job and would definitely recommend getting one for the massage. Afterwards, Naoko worked her magic! Talked with her about pretty much anything and everything. Glad that I could have a conversation with her since I was slightly afraid that there would be a language barrier. Then, to finish it off, she demonstrated ways to style my hair, which I liked. Learn a new hair tip, awesome! Prices are very reasonable: Cut $40, Shampoo & Cut $48, Kid's Cut with Parents (under 12) $30 ARIGATO GOZAIMASU NAOKO! I'll be back!
