I woke up this morning (it's a beautiful Sunday in Miami as I write this) and thought, "it's time to go plant shopping." After countless mornings waking up in a bedroom lacking greenery, I googled best plant shops in Miami. Many of the newer more popular stores came up but then so did Galloway Farm Nursery. For as long as I can remember, this nursery has been around and therefore I stuck with the tried and true. Perhaps it was the sense of familiarity that ultimately drew me to Galloway--a welcoming, unstuffy, old faithful that made me feel confident to plant shop despite my shortcomings with plants themselves. But when I got there, I quickly realized that the comfort I felt walking in was solidified by the assistance I received. Eavesdropping on another customer and team member, I could hear that the gentleman assisting was well versed in all things plants. I mean, one would hope that is the case, but you never know these days. If you're like me, sometimes you have trouble asking for help. But I wanted a big plant, damnit! And there was no way I would be able to physically lift the one I wanted on my own. After mustering up the courage to ask for help, I got so much more than that. I got information, I got recommendations, I got educated, and I even got help re-potting my plant. I'm not sure this is a regular service offered, however because it was very slow when I went the person was glad to help me. All of that being said, I left with the perfect low-light plants for my home for an unbeatable price. They even helped me put it in my truck. The value here is totally worth it. And then I realized....how the hell am I going to get these inside my house alone? LOL! Practical things to note: ample parking available, deliciously cool orchid room for those unbearably hot days, lots of cute cats hanging around. Galloway Farm Nursery is a must-try! read more

Just left Galloway Farm Nursery. We came to buy some more sand bags. The end there was no sand so asked if they had some. We asked if there was any sand available and the gentleman said he would have to bag it. When I went around the cashier, I heard the cashier say he didn't have to bag it. So I drove to Galloway farm for nothing. Going Home Depot!!!!! read more

Don't show up at 8am like their profile on Yelp says. They open at 9am. But better still is when the kind employee who shows up at 8am to open the gate tells you "you should have CALLED first" as opposed to trying to be kind in that spot. Great plants! Pretty, but somewhat limited in comparison to other miami local nurseries. I also found the prices to be a bit higher. It's not a bad place though. I do think they had more in terms of herbs which is always nice, but I personally found the fruit trees to not be as good or big a variety as others nurseries especially for the price. I absolutely loved my trip here to come scope out the perfect plants for my home during the holiday season. I was given a tour of all their perennials and seasonal plants with specific info on how to care for each plant along with the level of care they required. The orchid room is beyond breathtaking. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous as they catered to my every question. Conveniently located in South Miami, this Plant Nursery has easily become of my most most highly recommendable stops in Miami to pick up some new plants so I can flex my green thumb. They are certainly very detail-oriented with their inventory and layout which makes shopping here a breeze. I loved my experience here and look forward to coming back for more. read more

I wanted to add more butterfly host and nectar plants to my front yard, and had design questions. Evan had the best ideas, and helped me put this together. Thanks to him, I also learned how to train a messy Almond Bush. Into an Almond Tree! I learned you can do this with most bushes. I used bungee cords to pull the base trunks together, and kept cutting the leaves off of the bottom. I am so happy with my wonderful smelling, neat looking, Almond Tree! This nursery is the gem of Miami! The staff are the best in any nursery I have been to. The prices are great, and the variety of plants are expansive. They even have a section of host and nectar plants, for butterfly gardens! Evan and Alex have educated me, and helped me create a thriving butterfly garden. read more

When I started landscaping my yard, I drove all the way to this nursery. The plants I chose then still thrive. So, in need of new plants to fill in for the places construction left in the yard, I returned. I was not disappointed. I'm starting slowly and got only four plants. I called this Nursery as I am looking to refresh plants in my landscaping and was referred to Frank for an estimate. When this gentleman arrived he was rushed and not very enthusiastic to talk about the job. It was not a good experience and he did not provide a written estimate. Verbally the amount was a little more than the ballpark but what was offered to me was less plants and less rocks than what I had wanted. He did not look interested and neither am I. read more

I don't have enough good things to say about Galloway. Everyone wearing their masks and practicing social distancing was the first thing I noticed, which was lovely. Their selection was incredible, from neon pothos to variegated monsteras. This is definitely the place to go to find your next rare houseplant. Their outdoor plants were numerous also, with an impressive selection of citrus trees. They even had an orchid room which was great for cooling off! We were helped by Mike, who showed us his "office" overflowing with plants from all over the world. I would recommend Galloway for any of your plant needs! Definitely ask for Mike! read more

I absolutely loved the selection of plants and herbs in this nursery. Their selection is superb, prices are decent and the staff is beyond helpful. I love visiting nurseries, it's one of my favorite hobbies I love plants! I was definitely satisfied with the selection in this nursery and I cannot wait to be back. The prices were pretty decent, but you can definitely find more competitive prices if you drive a couple miles down south. However, given that I live all the way in brickell this place is nicely situated. I cannot wait to be back and I definitely recommend if you're in the area. Let me begin by saying that I have been on the hunt for a local nursery full of quality plants & people who know what they are doing. I am a Master Gardner helping swap out my parent's landscaping with a beautiful but edible landscaping. With this in mind, I visited Galloway Farm Nursery on a whim & it didn't meet my expectations-- it EXCEEDED them! Mike, the horticulturalist there, answered every single one of my questions & found plants to help serve all the needs I had walking in there. Was super sweet, patient & listened, which is rare in Miami, lol. He did an amazing job helping me find what would work best & knew exactly what he was talking about. I learned a lot!! Besides there being really unique types of fruiting trees and edible plants/herbs, there were some really beautiful landscaping non-edible plants there too! I have been going to Galloway for about 10 years because it is walking distance from my house. I can tell you that the customer service is hit or miss. I've had some pretty awful experiences in regards to how I've been treated (predominantly by the owner) and some phenomenal experiences with Mike and some of the other guys. My husband and I keep going because of how conveniently located they are and also because we want to support a small local business and make sure their employees continue to have a job. read more

This is my favorite nursery, they are all very nice, friendly and very knowledgeable especially Mike. He has helped me out each time I have gone, and has been very helpful and honest. They have a beautiful selection of plants and a great selection of rocks and planters. Went all over looking for the right planter for my fiddle leaf tree and found it! This nursery is a wonderful oasis in the heart of East Kendall. I recently planned a nice yard project and Galloway Farms was my go to for advice and assistance. Zane was an incredible and patient helper who looked at photos of my area to be replanted, asked a lot of questions about style, inspiration, and sun exposure for that area. He worked to gather plants that looked amazing together and would flourish in full sun with minimal fuss. Zane was very sensitive to my budgetary constraints and suggested options to get a great look for the money I was willing to spend. He also helped us load everything into our truck with a smile. It's a lovely place to stroll through a gain inspiration for your yard from knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly staff. Can you get plants cheaper on a drive to Homestead? Perhaps. Everyone is extremely helpful, especially Michael when I went to him when my Plumeria had a White Fly bug (or something around that name lol ) anyway, he showed me exactly what I needed to use with the proper tools to help my plants get through the bugs! I stopped into nursery on 2/28 to order 25 muhly plants and 1 pink crepe myrtle. The young man who helped me out wrote the order in a binder with my information and a promise to call when it was in stock. I asked to pay and was told it wasn't necessary until order arrived. Today (2/7) I called to see if my plants were in yet. A man on the phone said that he couldn't find my order and said that it wasn't officially an order anyway only a request for plants. Someone dropped the ball and they weren't very responsive to correct it and help me get my plants. Frustrated, I said I'd be in but not going to waste my time. Where do I begin? I've been coming to this nursery for the past year and i can now say it is my go-to, my absolute favorite of all time! I've been to almost every nursery in south Florida and to me nothing compares. This place is awesome. I'm an avid gardener and am specifically interested in native plants. Galloway Farm Nursery has a beautiful selection. I love the way it's divided into sections (shade, butterfly, annuals, etc) and is easy to get around. It's big enough for an impressive selection without being massive. They also carry a wonderful selection of fertilizers and soil which is convenient. What really impressed me was the excellent customer service. I've been to nurseries where I have wandered around for an hour without being approached. The two guys working were great. Very helpful and willing to share knowledge. I was super impressed. The Epitome of rudeness- I stopped here to purchase some herbs for the garden and inquire about some landscaping. It was a Saturday and they were busy, but unlike many other businesses where some one may at least acknowledge you are there and say they would be right with you, no one said a thing. I selected several items and brought them to the register and held them while I was in line. There was a note on the edge of the counter and a bench below it which said "Do not place plants here." so I held them.My instinct was not to put them on a bench it it would dirty it. This woman who worked there looked at me with a dour face and said "put them there" pointing to the bench. When I said I would hold them, she retorted, "that's how we do it here." no smile or anything. I pointed out that I didn't know that as there was no one helping and in an abrupt tone responded, " Well, you would stand in line for 30 minutes somewhere else." I added that the sign on the counter could lead someone to believe that it implied the counter or the bench and then she added "..the quality of customer has gotten bad in the past few years" and how she has seen some of the rudest people to which she added , "Don't ever come back here" and slapped the receipt on the counter along with a .50 off a future visit. The other two people line appeared as puzzled as I was. It's my mistake for not reading the all of the reviews. It is not rocket science to assume that if you are rude to customers they will go elsewhere. The good news is that there are many more nurseries in Kendall and in Homestead. read more

Warning-- Owner Pat is very rude with the worst customer service. Steer clear of an old grumpy lady complaining about everything. Kinda looks like the nursery grandma . There are also multiple reviews about her and the other elderly women that are rude to customers here. All employees are aware and endlessly apologize EVERYTIME she walks by Besides Pat--- My family and I have been coming to this nursery for years. There is a wide variety of plants, including native plants. The guys here are always pleasant and helpful. My daughter was really excited to get two Monarch caterpillars and she was caring for them throughout. When we run out of milkweed leaves, we went and got two plants from Galloway. I made sure they were organic with no pesticides. They told me that they were; however, the caterpillars ended up drooping- one turned black and didn't make it to full blown pupa and the other pupa dried up and nothing came out of it. We are extremely disappointed and are currently making a complaint to the farm, as from our experience they dis not abide by the plants bring organic. Has anyone else had a bad experience with this farms' "organic" milkweed? And if so, where would you recommend us to go to instead? Instead of helping the decline in the Monarch population, we ended up killing them with non-organic plants! My daughter was extremely sad about this.
