They also removed the wallpaper from our bedroom, repainted it, and added a new chair rail. Additionally, they replaced all of the electrical outlets, switches, wall plates, and vents throughout the house with nice clean white ones. We are extremely dissatisfied with our experience with Romexterra Restoration. We experienced a…read moreflood on July 4, and as of Wednesday, July 22, we have received minimal communication regarding the status of the work or next steps. We have left multiple voicemails for our project manager, Barrett, without receiving a response. We also had two scheduled appointments where someone was supposed to come out and check the moisture readings, but no one showed up. A technician finally came to our home this morning and discovered that the company's dehumidifiers had been connected to a pipe that was not draining properly, resulting in standing water in our basement. The technician also found that mold had begun growing in the area where the equipment was improperly installed. To date, neither my husband nor I have heard from anyone regarding how Romexterra plans to address the additional water damage or mold caused by this issue. A flood cut has not been performed, and we have not received any clear remediation plan or timeline. This situation has been incredibly frustrating and concerning. We expected a restoration company to help prevent further damage after a flood, not contribute to additional damage while failing to communicate with us.

Some things you look for in a general contractor and rarely find are the ability to stay close to budget and timelines, and Jim and his team did both of these! Jim does a thorough of a job putting designs/estimates together, and the only change order we had (that wasn't scope creep on our part) was for some poor electrical a previous owner did that Jim couldn't have anticipated. In addition, Jim keeps your project moving. We rarely went two days without someone at the house making progress on our project; there were no extended delays due to materials or labor issues. Jim and his team also excel at problem solving. Every project has hiccups along the way, but every issue is tackled and Jim won't stop until the solution works for you. As an example, we were having trouble matching the color of some new hardwood floors to older, existing floors in the house. He helped us put down 16 stain samples and promised we would keep trying until we got it right (and we finally did!). It was very clear our happiness was extremely important to him. If you are looking for a contractor who is honest, knowledgeable, responsive, efficient, affordable, and fun to work with, Independent Remodeling is who you should work with.
