I called Gallagher to get a quote on paving my driveway and they gave me a quote which I was ok with. They said they would send me a contract via e-mail. After more than a week I never received it. I called and they said they would send it. It has been an another week and nothing. It's unfortunate that I need to write this. When we decided to go with this company we were certain through John's reviews & experience that he would be the guy for the job. His pricing was reasonable & his men worked quick on the job once they started. But we were soon to find out how John does business. When we came to the end of the job which included pavers, they were unable to finish completely -due to the design needing to be ordered & it would take some time. So the pavers were left unfinished and the lawn & sprinkler system a mess. However we were told once they came back to finish they would tidy up , and seal all the pavers etc. (He also put our brick pillars & mailbox in not up to code, (yes there's a code) which we didn't know & now our mailman stopped our mail because it needs to be fixed.) This is where communication became sparse to none. He called us 1.5 months later to tell us the design was in & he would be at our home on a Saturday. That Saturday came and he never showed or called or text. We tried to call & text for about a wk. He finally text me back saying sorry phone had no service on nightmare job. I'll be there tomorrow. AGAIN- NOTHING. No call or text. We are very unhappy with how his communication has been & how he left our driveway. He is not a business man. I want anyone to know before you go with this company-to truly know that he will ghost you if the job isn't worth coming back for. I would never recommend him due to how he left our work. John did driveway, then left all the debris on the side of my mailbox and never returned. He gave me the run- a- round for two months, promising to return to clean up. He never showed! What's worse I had a wedding here, and the 1st thing my guests saw was a pile of cement, asphalt, garbage & sand when they entered. I was better off leaving the old driveway! He promises to come back ,giving specific dates, and never shows. That wasted lots of time when I had a list of wedding arrangements, and little time! My lawn is a mess with 2,000 lbs of commercial waste on it... TERRIBLE! read more

Stay Away! They did my driveway and it started coming apart a few months later. John the owner happened to bump into me and told me that there were 7 houses that had the same issues and he would come back to fix it. 4 months later, 15 text messages, 5 voicemails and no response. This is after they gave me a 3 year warranty and 1 free seal coating. They think they are are premier company. I am surprised they are not out of business already. The owner John is all talk when it comes to sales and also does not stand by his word, contract or his work. Extremely disappointing. Found Gallagher and Sons through the Millstone Times newspaper and called him for an estimate to repair a crack on the stone facade of our great room. He came right away for the estimate and gave a good price. He is very friendly and my husband both liked him. His crew came to do the job and he was there a few times during the day and I kept telling him to seal a crack that went up higher than the area that was replaced. He assured me it would be done. I paid him (dumb me) and Jon was not done to my satisfaction. Now he has ghosted me and I'm left with a half done job. Stay away from him!! read more

I have waited over a year to post this because he has promised multiple times to come and fix my driveway that he newly paved in November of 2021. But everytime I walk up my driveway I am reminded of how bad the job turned out. Needless to say it has never been resolved, anyone reading this should avoid this guy. He had come to give us an estimate and after a brief back and forth we agreed to a price to remove the old driveway and freshly install 3-4 inches of new blacktop after he was supposed to regrade and remove the old driveway. From the start he started to complain that there was two coats of old blacktop and wanted more money for the job. We had a signed contract, so I refused to allow him to repave over old blacktop which he agreed to remove. He wanted to leave half of the old blacktop. He kept complaining that it cost him money to dump the old blacktop. Not my concern. Secondly, on the day the paving was to occur, it was very cold, below 45 degrees. I had some concern but he said the plant would use a different type of mix to assure it would be ok. The plant, it seems had some magic blacktop that was impervious to cold. He thought I was stupid. As his crew was about to start paving the truck was at the top of my driveway and they tilted the bed and the truck nearly tipped over sideways. Very scary. So he proceeded to pave my driveway using 5 wheelbarrows instead of the paving equipment attached to the back of the dump truck. As they were nearing the bottom 25 feet of driveway they began to come up short on fresh blacktop. I watched them from my lawn and saw that instead of 3-4 inches they were barely getting 1 inch. According to him he said it was fine and asked me not to stand there and watch them. Chasing me off my own lawn. While they were paving the asphalt was cooling down to quickly, cold, so they were pouring diesel fuel onto the new blacktop i various spots and lighting it on fire. Trying to soften the binder. It was like a clown show. I was very concerned. But at this point I had very little recourse than to not allow him and his crew finish. When I later verified the amount of blacktop he ordered, he was way off. By a ton or so. I measured my driveway and compared it to his number on the contract and he was short by 200 sq. feet. He ordered less than he needed. Unbelievable. Later I noticed that the edges off my driveway, lower third, there was barely a half inch of blacktop in some places. After several texts and multiple phone calls he showed up in August, ten months later. He told me he would come back and and do a seal coat and add some black granular material to mix with the coating. And i never saw him again. I gave this guy $10,000 to do this job. I am disgusted by how some people conduct business. I have a free sealcoat and 3 year warranty but I will never get anything from this guy. And I wouldn't let this fraudster ever set foot on my property again, needless to say. BUYER BEWARE... read more

John gave a competitive quote to do a 1600 sq ft patio with some other minor driveway work, he was pleasant to talk to and seemed like an honest family man since he brings his kids out, so I gave him the job. He said the job would be done within 1 week, it went over budget and it's been two months and two months later he still hasn't come back to do the finishing touches. He damaged my sunroom when ripping up the existing concrete because they were using the siding of my sunroom as support to pick up the concrete, not careful at all. He figured out a way to get out of fixing it, which ended up being a very unfair trade as I learned the frame of the window is completely damaged he claimed it was just just the j-channel, but multiple people say it is not. Water also leaked through into my sunroom after he did this job, I had to get that fixed on my own since I haven't heard from him. In the beginning he said he'd use polymeric sand in the paver joints, he ended up using mason sand which is 90% cheaper but claims it is much stronger, so every time it rains there is sand all over the patio and all the sand on the edges washed out, he still has not come back to look at this either. On top of all of this, after paying him more than 2/3 of the money before completion, he threatened to walk out on two different occasions, once when the job was 70% complete and he wanted more money (he already had more more money from me then was initially agreed upon at this point), and in the end when I wanted to hold back $500 since it wasn't fully complete (for a job well into the five figures!) and he still hasn't come back after I paid him more. He needed to go out of town to tended to emergency family matters, which I was sympathetic of (I didn't even complain he left his seal coating machine in my yard for 2 weeks!), hence waiting so long to write a review. But he hasn't prioritized finishing our job after being back for over a month while continuing to take on new jobs. His google reviews were great and he completed 95% of my job but I'm very disappointed at how I was treated even though he got another job in my neighborhood from me. I called and texted him 3x a week to get him to finish up the job for a month and a half to which he responds "next week"! He has never even given me a proposal or receipt for the job. He asked me to take down the review and he'd come and fix it within a week, that was two weeks ago and he still hasn't showed up. read more

Gallagher and Son's Paving Came was hired to redo my driveway which was fine. However, the area in which the driveway meets my garage and sidewalk along the side of the house is a GIGANTIC CLIFF... Common sense would dictate that you have a smooth flat transition but there is literally a 2 inch drop off from driveway to garage floor. It has been about a month and a half ago since we have reached out for them to come back and take a look and fix it but nothing but excuses. He said his father was in the ICU in which I completely understand. However, even till now there has been no attempt a even look at the driveway in person not even sending an employee. Are you thinking of contacting Gallagher & Sons, Paving & Masonry, read this review before deciding to hire?  I contacted Gallagher & Sons Paving & Masonry Mr. John Gallagher, the owner, came out and gave us a quote adding pillars to accommodate an iron fence and electrical gate doors ( The actual Iron fencing was on backorder with another company until 2021), redo my driveway which included digging new trenches for Belgian block edging, add new apron pavers at the gated entrance, new asphalt driveway with a three-year warranty on all workmanship and materials.  We agreed and the work would start shortly after we received the quote of $41,000.00 on November 10, 2020. Along the way, we added a stone walkway leading to our backyard, etc. totaling about $80,000.00. By no means this was not a small job. At one point, I had to complain to Mr. Gallagher that his crew was drinking on the job and leaving beer bottles on my property. Also, we had to repair our sprinkler system, and his workers crushed or damaged our sprinkler system with the heavy machinery, our landscaping was also damaged due to his workers placing materials and machinery on the property. On April 10, 2021, I contacted Mr. Gallagher and provided him a video showing that the pavers were not even and had become loose damaging our vehicles. The asphalt was not sealed correctly, and we kept tracking asphalt into our garages and in our home.  John promised that it was going to be redone in two weeks, never happened.  Week after week we kept getting excuses. At one point they dropped off an asphalt machine at the end of my driveway and his crew didn't show up.  Then late one night, I see someone at the end of the property, I immediately call Mr. Gallagher, and he informs me that they need the machinery to finish a job and will be back to fix our issues. Now we are into the first week of June Mr. Gallagher apologized that his truck broke down or due to the weather, excuse after excuse. July 26, 2021, no replies to my emails or texts pleading to please fix his unacceptable work. To make a long story short Gallagher & Sons Paving & Masonry stopped returning my calls. On August 30, 2021, I had to contact another company to come in and redo the driveway, the columns had to be torn down and redone as the columns were hollow and there was no way that the fence company was able to be screwed into the columns.   This project has been a real nightmare for me, and my family.  I am glad that I contacted  IBO Construction in Colts Neck as they are licensed professionals and keep their word. My rating for Gallagher & Sons is -0- As a businessman, I stand behind my employees and their work. DON'T USE GALLAGHER AND SON'S PAVING. I hired John to do my driveway back in March, and 5 months later the job still isn't completed. He said he would come back to complete the rest of the job and fix all the problems that we saw, and He never did. He stopped answering phone calls and messages. We had our front walk, steps, patio + driveway completely removed and reconstructed. For workmanship we would give them a 5. The end product was amazing except the driveway. Will explain. WE hired John in Oct. 2019, unfortunately it was a bad time due to family health issues that occurred soon after. Of course, John had to go, family first we would all agree. Being dedicated to the project, he did get another foreman to come each day and the project started up again. But we feel he was not as dedicated as John would have been. That being said. John's crew was very professional, hard workers, same 3 guys each day during the entire job. They were highly skilled and careful with ensuring that they would produce a high quality product that we would love in the end. Which we did! The front walk, steps and patio are a masterpiece, one you would see in a magazine. you can see the pictures on his website (brown pavers). Although, the road to get there was Bumpy, the destination was worth it. The driveway was the last piece of the job. We do feel that it was rushed and not done well. Upon John's return he did come to see the work. He also agreed it was not up to his standards. He promised to come back in Spring of 2020 to fix it, cut sharp edges and seal coat. The day this review was posted, John confirmed that he will do one better. He is planning on coming back in the spring and redoing the entire driveway again. It is hard to find people that stand by their reputation, so this is refreshing. John provides reasonable quotes, he is a nice guy, it was an unfortunate time for him, we hope his dad is doing better. His crew was amazing.
