Anyone looking for paving, DO NOT USE DAN THE PAVER from TOMS River. Do not hire! Ripped up my driveway and sidewalk 6/23 and it's still incomplete. Called at 8pm on a Sunday 7/12 to announce he be there the next day but we were out of town with cars parked on it. Was rude and called me a d!ck on the phone. Tried to work with him after and he was impossible to deal with. Promised to complete the job at no cost then showed up at my house the next day stating "that was just a figure of speech ". Can't trust him, tries to add on more after the contract. Do not Recommend him at all. Had four reliable contractors who were professional and respectful offer to complete the mess he made. We've been wanting to redo our driveway for a LONG time but were afraid to because we fear we were going to get scammed where the person would take our money and run. When we hired him, we were terrified. LOL. We saw our neighbors getting their driveway paved and decided to throw caution to the wind. What calmed me down was seeing that many of our neighbors were getting it done. He is a bit pricey, though. But, in my mind, as long as he comes back the following week. AND HE DID! I hired Dan the Paver in September of 2022 to remove my aging existing asphalt driveway and replace it with two new layers of asphalt and add a Belgian block skirt at the driveway entrance. Dan was lovely to work with, explained the intricacies of my job in a way that was easy to understand, and did a wonderful job overall. I found him by doing a Google search for driveway pavers. I liked that Dan was a simple and friendly guy in an industry that is not always trustworthy. I used to have a friend in the paving industry many years ago and learned that it could be a cruel and ruthless field. On my driveway, Dan pointed out that there was no room for error as there was barely any pitch in an important corner for drainage. He was correct about this. That corner had been a problem since we purchased the house in 2016. Moss and crud kept growing there, and it was unsightly and odorous. So Dan installed a drain by the garage for the water to travel through to an existing drainage pipe. His crew came and removed the old driveway and put the first layer down on a beautiful fall day. On Dan's recommendation, we waited a few weeks before putting the second layer on to see if there were any areas that needed to be smoothed over and corrected first. We wanted it to rain and see how water drained and if there was any pooling, especially in that corner. At first, I was concerned because I did see a little puddle in the corner, but Dan explained to me that since the first layer was low (by design), the true pitch and drainage would work well once the second layer of asphalt was added. He was absolutely right. It's been a year and a half, and I'm happy to say the driveway looks beautiful and we have had no issues at all, especially in that troublesome corner. He and his crew really did a great job. They even repaired the old Belgian block bordering the driveway and also moved our boat trailers out of the driveway for us, saving my husband from having to do it while recovering from rotator cuff surgery. Communication is very important to me, and I must say Dan was available by text or phone throughout the project. I really loved his methodical approach to doing our job. And he was kind, which is something I value very much. I want to also mention something about sealing. We decided to hold off on sealing the driveway for 6-9 months to allow the asphalt to completely cure. I went ahead and paid for the sealing, trusting that Dan would follow through. As a consumer, this was a risk for me, but something gave me a good feeling about Dan. We agreed via text that I would reach out to him when I was ready to schedule the sealing. Well, life got away from me and I didn't reach back out to him until just recently, in June of 2024 - a full year and half after he did the original job. Don't you know it, he came and sealed the driveway yesterday! It looks beautiful. I am so happy that there are people you can trust in the world. It could have gone another way. Dan is a good man. He is up against a lot of competition and that makes it hard for a business owner, but he is a good and honorable human. You know, paving companies knock on the door and offer deals all the time and then do a quick-and-out job, but I learned through working with Dan that the slower, planned approach reaps rewards over the long term. This driveway is solid, well-built, and will probably last longer than I will! Please do yourself a favor and consider Dan for your paving project. I am actually quite happy with the work they've done. They removed the old asphalt from the driveway, pressed the stone base, let it sit for about a week, then came in with huge professional machinery and laid the new asphalt, in fact, extra-thick layer. The edges are straight and smooth. They came in 4 days later and sealed it. I originally was concerned that smoothness of the asphalt is not even, in some places it was rougher than in others. But after sealing it came up pretty good. I also checked after the rain - the water flows off it, no puddles. I am satisfied with this company. read more

Don't use this guy. He came knocking at my door and told me that he had an extra load of material and he'll pave my driveway For $5,500 after a little discussion he said that it wasn't actual asphalt it was recycled. I told him I did not want that. I wanted real asphalt. He said that would be $12,500 I said OK, and agreed to the price as he was halfway done with my driveway. he said he didn't have enough material and needed $3,000 more I said no I can't do it and he said OK I'll see if I can stretch it making me think he wasn't gonna finish the driveway and leave it like that. so then he said can you give me $1000 more I agreed after he charge my card an extra $1,000 so altogether it cost me $14,500.after one month I have weeds popping up in the middle of my driveway and there's only 1 inch thick of material then he did three of my neighbors as well, and did the same thing to them. Halfway through the job asked for more money for material, making them think he wouldn't finish their driveway. It's a complete scam be aware do not use this company. read more

You can only do one star but for me they don't even deserve a one star. This review will be long. On a Friday September 7th around 1pm one of the workers came out for an estimate. Not only was he rude didn't even talk or explain things just said hear is the price. Wanted to also give him extra small job so figured maybe give a small discount got laughed in the face said not even worth it. So right there turned me off. Then when the guy left 5 min later the owner calls to say the price has to go up there was a mistake so too me that shows when they do work they will always charge more and say well we found this problem now. So then the owner says ok fine I'll take off alittle but pushing for me to give them the job. Then saying I want to think about it he's getting all mad. Turned around and said I'm getting other estimates first not going with the first guy. He got to pissy and said forget it I don't want your business and your not even worth it and hung up. People please do not use this company they suck and are crooks. They do work in a senure development and I feel they over charge and take advange of the eldor. Exspecally with trying to strong arm. They were suppose to come back in spring and do a top coat but never showed up. said they used a subcontractor. The people said they worked for him.
