It's the first place to eat from leaving the hospital. We were craving some Mexican food so figured we would give it a shot. I have to admit it's probably the best Mexican I have had since I was in El Paso. It might have been since I haven't had it in so long and was craving it. Or it was just that good. The service was pretty good. I have been in some that if you don't speak Spanish they may ignore you for awhile. Our waiter was quick and very friendly. I'm in town on business every other week, and Galera Dos is my go-to place on Monday nights. I always get the vegetarian combo, with a spinach and a potato enchilada, both without oil. I also get the guacamole salad. The staff is not the smoothest of operators, but they're friendly and accommodating. Not only do they know exactly what I'll be ordering, so does the chef. The only instruction on my food check is my name; the chef knows what to prepare. Sometimes they'll close early if they're slow, so if you're thinking of going late in the evening, it'd be worth your while to call ahead and verify the hours. In a town with very few options for "ethnic" food, Galera Dos is a nice little Americanized Mexican place. Plenty of gluten free options with corn chips and tortillas. The refried beans are delicious, and I HIGHLY recommend the queso. I'm pretty picky about my queso blanco, and this did not disappoint. However, the two times I have visited this establishment, the wait staff has been pretty slow. The first time was understandable, it was a busy lunch hour and I came in with a large group. The next time it was just my friend and me, and the waiter appeared to forget about us intermittently. He was much more attentive to the three tables next to us. Maybe it's because we were in the corner--out of sight out of mind, I guess. But it took forever to get our water glasses refilled and even longer until our orders were placed. That being said, he was very nice and answered our questions about the special, even split the cost on our bills of the appetizers we had shared without us having to work out paying each other back on Venmo. Having lived in Southern California for several years I know what real Mexican food done right is, this place is a bit of a disappointment but what do you expect for small town in Pennsylvania. That said I gave the place a couple tries how about some cilantro in the salsa please!!! I had enchiladas the first time very so so and then I had the burritos Texanos the second time. Placed a large order for our unit in the hospital. Total was $197 and we tipped $220 because of the large order. After picking up the order, 2 entrees were missing (2 other nurses checked to make sure they were missing). Called to have the 2 orders made to pick up. The cook took the phone from the cashier and called me a liar. Stating he made the entrees. An order that big is bound to have mistakes, that is okay. But to call a customer a liar is out of line. Having lived in SoCal for 4 years and traveled to Mexico countless times, I've had a very difficult time finding really good Mexican food in PA, but this place is by far the best I've had. Some of the dishes are "Americanized" a bit, but it's definitely the most authentic I've found in the area so far. I've tried probably half of the items on their menu and I've yet to be disappointed. Generous portions, reasonable prices, and a friendly staff. They're in a location that's been a little tough on restaurants, but hopefully they'll be ok. My biggest complaint about the place is that their parking lot isn't the greatest, especially if you drive an suv or truck. That's the only bad thing I can really say. Pretty decent Mexican food. Fried beef chimichangas are the bomb. Never gotten anything else cuz, when I find something I like, I stick with it. Does that make me safe? Maybe but I'm never disappointed. Though the chimichangas have gotten smaller which is disappointing. My dining companion who has a similar taste since he's genetically related to me enjoyed his chicken fajitas. He said the meat was moist and well seasoned but the chicken was lacking grill lines. Stopped there for the first time last night. The decor and atmosphere were pleasing to the eye and the chips and salsa that was brought to the table were just as pleasing to the taste buds. I ordered the Dinner Galera Burrito which was two chicken burrito's with rice and beans, the Mrs ordered a salad. After about 10-15 minutes the food came out looking delicious. This was my first time eating at this establishment. The restaurant was small but decorated well and seemed clean. Free tortilla chips and salsa were given while we decided what we would order. I ordered the fried chicken chimichangas which came with rice and beans. I declined the beans and opted for extra rice instead. The rice was delicious and so were the chimichangas. I would have given a 4 star review however, the service didn't match the food. The waiter wasn't very personable or friendly; at least that's how it seemed. We even had to go to the counter to get our check because we had already waited several minutes for the waiter to return. Although other waiters were seen throughout our entire meal, ours never returned after our meal was delivered. In conclusion I suggest checking this small yet delicious place out. I like this place. The food is good for this area and it is something different from pizza and burgers/wings. I had cheese enchiladas with verde sauce and although it isn't green chile, it was still really good tomatillo-based sauce. Yes, it is white American cheese, but there are Mexican melting cheeses that are quite similar, and in many restaurants they use it. I liked the salsa and chips too. The only complaint was the service from the one guy who brought us the salsa and chips and our waters; he was very unfriendly and barely said anything. Oh well! We will definitely be back. read more

Came for dinner on a Thursday. They were busy but we were able to get a table by the window. Server came over with salsa and chips that all seemed fresh. Chips were warm and crispy. Ordered stuffed poblanos and wife ordered enchiladas from lunch menu. Everything came quickly and was piping hot. Mine also came with a couple warmed tortillas and both included a generous portion of refried beans and rice. Speedy and good food. Service was good. Never felt rushed. This is the real deal as far as Mexican restaurants go. Too bad they don't serve beer or other alcoholic drinks but that is more the fault of the archaic Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. I would give this place 0 stars if I can. I am vegetraian by religion and go into this place asking for vegetarian food and make sure he knows that. He brings me out food with pieces of beef and chicken and when I told him this..he said "yeah there might have been somethings left over from the grill" like its not big deal. With that being said enjoy my updated review on this restaurant with old review included from another site. Updated Review: The food is still amazing here but unfortunately my review must stay at 3 stars. The wait staff is so slow and unreliable. The waiter that I commented on in the below review seemed to be doing a better job tonight than usual but they still were not on their game. This place is still worth it though for it's delicious food, just don't expect it quickly or refills or a check back to see how everything is. Once you get your food you won't see your waiter again until after you've finished. Previous Review: Food is always fantastic! Amazing restaurant but this time around our waiter was just terrible. It took 5 minutes from when he seated us until he came around for drinks. Another 5 until he came back with the drinks and to take our orders. He brought the food out when it was finished in a quick and timely manner but never returned after that. We had empty drinks and were never offered refills (he never came back). We were going to order desert until we had to go up to the counter and request our bill from another waiter. Our waiter then got our bills and we paid at the counter. After giving him no tip (obviously with the lousy service), he had the gull to say "Thanks for the tip, no really thanks" as we were walking out the door. Seriously they need some new wait staff. If you go, request the Mexican waiter.... he can at least manage a few tables. Any other visit this review would have easily been 5 stars. read more
