I had been wanting to try Galactic since I moved here two years ago, it's only 10 minutes from my house and has great reviews. Now that I've tried it, I don't understand all the positive buzz. I placed an online order for a meatball sandwich and antipasto salad. The prices are ... stratospheric. $20 for a sandwich and side salad. The online ordering system told me 45+ minutes. For a meatball sandwich??? I killed 20 minutes, then did the 10 minute drive. Despite the place being pretty full for a Wed. evening, the service was very quick and friendly. The location is nice, the interior is quite interesting if a bit dark. And my sandwich was not only already ready, but getting cold. They need to rethink how they set pick-up timing expectations. The sandwich was a real disappointment. The meatballs were very large - even cut in half they made the sandwich hard to eat. And they tasted much more of (good) breadcrumbs than they did of meat. Even just looking at them closely they seemed to be more filler than meat. I've had better from the freezer case at the supermarket. There was very little marinara, and it was exceedingly bland, certainly did not taste homemade. The shaved parmesan was also almost tasteless, lacking the expected saltiness and "bite". The sandwich did fill me up, but for the price I expected to be able to get two meals out of it. The salad looks nice. It came with a side of balsamic dressing that has a nice bite to it but is way too thick, I had to spoon it over the salad. The lettuce was fresh romaine, the green olives and banana peppers were tasty, and the salami rolled around mozz was a nice touch. Easily the best part of meal and boosted the review from 2 stars to 3. I could have hit them on a bad night, but having tried them, I don't understand the glow the locals bestow on them. We have eaten at Galactic Pizza several times and each time they have knocked it out of the park. Tuesday night is wing night and i must say that we are Wing snobs. The Wings at Galactic are the best that we've had in WNC and we've tried them just about everywhere! Wings are $1 a piece and PBR $2 and you cant beat that in today's time. Shawn & Noah are great front guys that will take care of you and go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied! The ambiance is a good vibe also! This National Pizza Day, I had good service and ambiance for an Italian Combo (consisting of salami, pepperoni, Italian sausage, red onion, red pepper and banana pepper) on a GF crust with Daiya cheese. The pie could have used a little more cook on the crust and a little bit of the cheese was slightly under-melted, but the flavors were a symphony of Italian ingredients. This place is a quirky, no frills pizza joint/bar with space decor that my children enjoyed. You order at the bar and seat yourself. The menu includes a few appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and a good variety of specialty pizzas or a make-your-own pie. The staff was friendly, prompt, and helpful. There is a very small arcade with six or so games that kids can play while you wait for your food. The chalkboard featured specials for every day of the week; today being pint night. What an absolutely stellar pizza spot tucked away in Candler. The building itself looks like an old warehouse or CrossFit gym from the outside but they done a lot of work on the inside and it's quite impressive. Love the decor with all the galaxy theme artwork. We came here at lunch and you ordered at the bar. Apparently that was not the normal so maybe they were shortstaffed. All of the staff that were there were incredibly friendly and hard-working. They were welcoming and patient with our group of seven. I also heard that they were bringing back lunch slices which seem incredibly affordable because they are gigantic. One is certainly enough for a meal. The tables are a little bit strange, but they work and it wasn't busy. The place itself was very clean despite only a few staff working. Some outdoor space too. I ordered the spinach salad and it had a ton of onions and tomato and bacon and feta. A little hard to mix up in the bowl, but overall a really diverse and delicious salad. Their balsamic was thick, but tasted, homemade and delicious. We ordered the pesto chicken and veggie pizzas. The large were quite big and fed seven people with a little leftover. The pesto chicken had a ton of chicken and tomatoes, and the ingredients were of high-quality. The veggie had a bunch of veggies, including broccoli, which I'm not a huge fan of on pizza. The artichokes and olives and spinach were delicious as was the sauce. Good crust too. read more

It could be the time of day, the day of the week, the season, or just how the planets are aligned. We walked in to what appeared to be a dimly lit ghost town of a restaurant in the far reaches of the universe. There was no indication of if you seat yourself, wait to be seated, or what have you, in fact, we were not sure there was any staff besides the two folks drinking at the bar. We took some menus and took our chance at a table. We waited probably 10 minutes before someone emerged to tell us we have to order at the counter. It still wasn't clear where at the counter. Luckily I have been to the outskirts of the universe before. The food came pretty fast. We had the ban mi pizza. We all liked it. We also had the homemade mozzarella sticks. Very good! The pretzel was good but not enough for the price. On our way out we said "have a great day." There was nothing from the staff. It felt like we were not supposed to be there or were not wanting. It was possibly one of the oddest restaurant experiences I have had in the Asheville area. Had the atmosphere and service existed, I might consider going back. We've been here 6 times in the last month. Not just for trivia. For drinks. Lunch. I'm pretty sure they'll start charging us rent sometime soon. Still swearing that the gluten free pizza is some of the best I've ever had. And definitely the best GF pizza I've had in Asheville. I am a big fan of the can beer specials even though it hurts my tummy. And usually if I'm working from home on Thursdays, I have to come here for a painkiller and lunch. I love this place! Somehow after living in Asheville for 11 years, I've never been to this part of town. I'm not even sure how I got to Galactic, haha. I'm super excited about Galactic Pizza, a new restaurant opened by the people from The Admiral and Desoto Lounge. Galactic is located on Sardis Road right off of Sand Hill. It's about a15 minute drive from downtown. I was super happy to walk in the doors to see awesome paper mâché planets hanging from the ceiling and awesome spacey paintings on the walls. I love love love the planets, they create a super fun, playful ambiance that is just so inviting and exciting. The restaurant is set up with a U-shaped bar in the middle and seating around on both sides with a small arcade room as well. The chairs in the restaurant are visually pleasing as they are yellow and aqua. I was surprised that Galactic Pizza has both beer and a full bar! Woohoo. I'm always happy to go out for pizza and be able to order a bourbon and ginger. My friends and I ordered drinks and we started with appetizers of cauliflower bites, wings and cheese sticks. The cauliflower bites were so delicious, cooked perfectly. We ordered them in barbeque sauce and the wings in Sweet Thai sauce. I didn't try them but I heard that they were awesome. The cheese sticks were soooooo yummy! They were definitely homemade, not frozen like most places serve. Their marinara sauce is sweet and flavorful and oh my goodness, their homemade ranch is thick and honestly the most tasty ranch dressing I've ever tried! For pizza, my husband and I shared a pineapple and banana pepper 16" and my friends ordered meat something or another. Again, I didn't try theirs but my pizza was really awesome! Their pizza is thin crust with perfectly cooked crust that tastes great. Their sauce is sweet and the cheese is flavored perfectly. I am very happy with their pizza. Is it the best in the world? Probably not. But is it pretty good pizza, great service, and a cool atmosphere 2 mins from our AirBnb? Yes, yes it is. We popped in here after a long hike and snagged a 16 inch pepperoni pizza, a couple of Miller lites and a cosmic brownie. The pepperoni pizza was plenty for 2 people- my fiancé thought it wasn't salty enough but she's picky. We had 3 slices leftover that we'll eat for lunch tomorrow. We wanted to try the vegan pepperoni but traditional called to us. The Miller Lites were on par. I liked our bartenders and waitress, everyone was chipper and super hospitable. The cosmic brownie was a good simple desert- it's not cordon bleu but it will give you a delicious sugar rush. I wouldn't drive out of my way to return but, if I was nearby, I'd be happy to stop in for a slice. read more

If you are drinking you will be taken better care off. Annoying folks at the bar but that's not the restaurants fault. What a surprise! This was the one pizza place in the area, pick up only...I wasn't expecting much. We were battled worn from the day drinking while visiting the area and just needed something for dinner that didn't take a lot of effort. We ordered a large pepperoni, sausage, mushroom and olive pie and it was ready for pick up in 30 minutes. The guys went to grab the pie and said the place was hopping...things were looking up. We open the box and inside is a smallish large pie, but it looks delicious The slices are HUGE so I only need one and yummo! Just what the doctor ordered - I wished we had gotten two or an extra large (if that is a thing). So good, just the right amount of sauce to cheese ratio and full of toppings. Galactic Pizza has really tanked since reopening post-Covid and we will not be back.  Pre-Covid it was quite a treat. Dine-in pizza was served warm-ish, not hot.  Though the outer crust was crunchy, the bottom of the pizza was flimsy, the cheese barely melted and the slices were cut too large for our medium-sized pizza.  Two other visits in recent weeks were similar in experience. Sandwiches are a better choice with many of the selections being warm-ish hoagie versions of the menu's specialty pizzas. Decent beer selection.  The draft beer is cold from the tap but served in room-temperature glasses so it gets warm and goes flat fast. Staff look like they got off the bus from the homeless shelter.  Tattered street clothing, hair unkept or pulled up into a mop, questionable tattoo choices abound.  No one seems to be enjoying their job and would rather chat with each other or stare at their mobile devices rather than actually working (with the exception of one young bartendress). I sent an email to management about my experience and concerns. They essentially said F-you. read more

A very ordinary pizza joint. We went due to a glowing recommendation from out of town guests. It is a big, dark, noisy space, with perimeter booths and a bar top eating/drinking area in the center. The music volume made conversation difficult. We had a pizza with everything on it, and cheesy pizza bread with marinara to start. There are lots of choices on the menu. Service was friendly, attentive and fast. Take out business appeared busy. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, it was just meh, and the place kinda feels like an old garage or gas station. Would recommend pick up pizza was good. It has boost around the outside edge that are uncomfortable not allowed to padding a bar in the middle. Galactic has good, honest pizza ... though it can take a while to get it. We were there on a Friday night, and even at around 6 pm Galactic was filling up. Before long, it was nearly full, a big change from the series of failures that used to occupy this pizza space on Sardis Road near Enka. Most of the customers looked to be locals. In the end, the busy night meant that the cooks and the ovens couldn't keep up with the orders, so we waited about an hour for our pizzas (the salad and beers came much quicker.) You don't really expect to wait that long at a pizza joint. Galactic isn't an upmarket spot. The new operators apparently didn't spend much on refurbishing, though the Japanese lantern-style space decor is cleverly done. The pizzas aren't fancy. This is no wood-fired or brick-oven spot. They are simply good, honest pizzas, not that different from what you'd get from a chain pizza place, though the crust is excellent. Prices are fair enough, around $14 to $18 for a 14- to 16-inch pizza with a variety of toppings. Given the fairly thick crust, that's a lot of pizza. Craft drafts are $5, PBR on draft is $3. Service (other than the slow kitchen) is good. Galactic has a small selection of local craft beers on draft, some beers in bottles and cans ($3 to $5), a handful of wines and a cocktail bar with fair prices -- the most expensive drink is around $9, we were told. With an antipasto salad (big enough to share), two 14-inch pizzas and a total of four draft beers, our dinner came to $57 before tip -- not cheap but okay for the amount of food we got (we took home about half of each pizza, plus a little salad.) I think this place will make it if it can get its kitchen up to speed on busy nights. read more

Many people say that Candler needs good restaurants. This location has housed at least three former pizza places and none of them have made it. Fingers crossed for this one. I'm pretty sure this is opening week so I'll go try them again later and update my review. There was a pretty good crowd by the time we left but I would say any new place is going to have that kind of crowd just out of curiosity. First off the wait staff were very friendly. We had to move because of the Sun being in our eyes. They were very accommodating. I'm sure they will get some shades soon to take care of that. I have a pretty good selection of beer and cider with Bold Rock blood orange even being on top. The wine menu was very limited. We asked about sharing a salad and the server told us it should be plenty. I do think that their salads are shareable if you are also going to get pizza. The ranch dressing was garlicky and had really good flavor. It had a nice ratio of toppings to spring mix. We decided to order our standard, a supreme pizza, so we could compare to other Pizza we've had. Honestly, it was one of the best crusts I've ever tasted - garlic infused. The sauce was a little too sweet for my liking so I added a little of the crushed red pepper to spice it up a little bit. I thought they were a little stingy with their toppings including the cheese. My go-to pizza in Ashville is Del Vecchios. This is by no means to that standard; however, to not drive across town it will work. They do have several appetizers. I saw a child at the table next to us with an order of Spaceballs. It was three large meatballs on a skewer in sauce covered in cheese. She seemed to really be enjoying them. M-F for lunch they have a special with a slice and salad bar. Might be worth a try if you are on the west side of town. They have a patio that will be nice in the spring. read more

Passing through town and this place was about a mile from our hotel. We got a 1/2 1/2 pesto artichoke and meatball pizza, and a Caesar salad. Super impressed with the quality of the food and COVID safety. Definitely try this place if you're in the area. read more

I was excited to finally try Galactic for the first time. We ordered over the phone and their pick up process was beyond easy and felt incredibly safe. They have it set up where one person goes inside at a time to pick and pay, they even sanitized my card before giving it back to me. Being vegetarian I was super excited to see vegan pepperoni on the menu, we ordered half cheese and half vegan pepperoni and jalapeño. The crust was thick and the pizza was well done. It's one of the only close/local pizza options close to our house and I am extremely excited for that. Their menu offers an array of items other than pizza as well (space balls?!) and I am looking forward to adding more things to my next order. read more
