choose your quiche ... or sandwich or scone or cake ...

Cute place, enticing selection of savories and sweets, hot drinks done well -- popular for good reason! Stopped in for an impromptu brunch on Sunday -- quite popular, all tables occupied, but also fair amount of turn over so sat down pretty quickly. The whole time we brunched there was a constant parade of people coming into the shop to pick something up. The food really advertises itself! I had a hot chocolate and goat cheese & leek quiche (served with arugula/rocket salad & lemony dressing). High marks for both - properly chocolatey (though not very creamy) hot chocolate; absolutely wonderful quiche with flavorful ingredients. Not the cheapest, but worthwhile. My brunch mate had a cappuccino which was apparently nicely done, and a plain scone (toasted) with jam and butter... a shame that they had run out of clotted cream! Finally I grabbed a loaf of sunflower seed bread on my way out. I've been enjoying it the last couple of days -- wholesome, tasty, perfect sized, not over-priced. Somehow tastes like it's missing salt though? Overall a nice experience, would definitely pop back in to try a sandwich or cake :)

Nice place, great food and location. Stay away from espresso coffee though!

The Paul near the hotel where I stayed is one of these places. I haven't changed. I loved a bakery then and I still seek out one when I'm travelling. I loved visiting this cafe. My hotel stay didn't include breakfast. Frankly, there wasn't a place to have some at the hotel itself. Instead, I bought breakfast items to my room to enjoy. I went to this cafe and got these items: - Pain au chocolat - Quiche lorraine - Red velvet macaron I paid with a credit card. I remember staff being super friendly and nice. I got my items in a couple of branded paper bags. I brought them to my hotel room to devour. The pain au chocolat was delicious. It was flaky and the dark chocolate was there in every bite. The quiche lorraine was enjoyable. It had the perfect ratio of eggs to cheese, bacon, and onions. The crust was yummy and held everything together. Both items tasted fresh. They were warm when I ate them at my hotel room. I went back to get a red velvet macaron. It felt fancy having it in its own box. It was divine! I'm glad that this cafe still exists. It's awesome. Ask a German living outside of Germany what they miss the most about home and I guarantee you that…read morethey will almost always mention the bread. I do not have such strong ties to German bread, but my time in Berlin has taught me how to appreciate a good pretzel (with butter if necessary, not mustard, you heathen!). Bäkehaus isn't quite as gemütlich (or cozy) as your favorite neighborhood bakery in Germany since it's all self-service, but it gets the job done. The pretzels were soft and chewy and surprisingly enough, reasonably priced! Bäkehaus also offers loaves of rye bread and a plethora of sandwiches with a German twist (I spotted a pork schnitzel sandwich with cranberry sauce on ciabatta for £3.99!), so why not grab something here for lunch instead of opting for a pricey sandwich from Pret or a sad sandwich from Tesco? It's located on the high street just minutes away from the Tube station, so you really don't have an excuse.

The coffee is ok (self service Piacetto is not that bad). The prices are popular. I mean, 1.30 for one spinach and goat's cheese strudel? Serious? I love it. All the thing is self service and they have no toilet, so it's good for a quick visit or a take away, but you won't regret it. Today I tried the hazenult speciality and I can't wait to come back. Now you can even see them preparing the cakes in the entrance. I love it. When are they opening a second branch?
