I'm really blown away by the ethics of Jeremy. I researched for a chimney sweep company and there are many four or five star reviewed companies. But Jeremy was the only one that I could verify is a licensed and certified by CSIA (Chimney Service Institute of America). From our initial contact to communication about arrival time, Jeremy was courteous. He came out with Jason and they were both pleasant. Jeremy evaluated my fireplace and told me why they couldn't do a chimney sweep. I'm a total idiot not realizing that my fireplace is a self contained system. But Jeremy never made me feel bad. Instead, he explained very clearly what kind of system I have and how I can carefully clean it myself. And he did this all with no charge. He wouldn't take a service fee. I know he and Jason must've travelled a good distance to get to me but Jeremy said he didn't do any work for me and could not charge me. So they didn't do a chimney sweep for me but based on my interactions with this company, I would say they are reliable, prompt, and trustworthy. What a inappropriate company. We had some things per the inspector that needed to be repaired. I did not ask for a full chimney inspection just repair of a few items per the home inspection. The company took it upon themselves to do a full chimney inspection, notate almost $10,000 worth of baloney damages, that we now have to disclose to our buyers. Do not use this shady company. I got inspections and estimates from 3 different chimney companies. Gadsby was the only one that provided the inspection and cleaning cost upfront. Their cleaning cost was a few hundred dollars cheaper than the other two companies They showed up on time, were professional, and the job was done in about an hour. At an additional cost, they patched a hole in the brick and added sand and ember stones. When it came time for the report and recommendations I thought the estimate was very high, but he said he would work with me on the price. He said he had to order the recommended chimney caps from the East Coast (very pricey), and it would take about 3 weeks to receive them. This was on 11/18/21. I indicated I wanted everything done in time so I could use the fireplace for Christmas. He said he was sure he could do that (estimated mid December). I received a call tonight, 12/13/21, indicating he received the caps and he could do the repairs and installation a month out from now. I was having trouble with my chimney. The flue is stuck open. I asked Gadsby to come out. He said they do not work on chimney flues. Also, he put a chimney topper that has a value of about $120 charge me a total of $900 to install this thing which took an hour and a half.. also the inside of the fireplace had some little bits of cement that needed to be installed to make it fire safe. He told me if I wanted it to look good. I would have to buy the black paint and paint it myself. He charge me 250 for that which took about 15 minutes.. I had a problem with cold air coming down the chimney. With the chimney topper, I still have cold air coming down the chimney it did not fix the issue.. he told me the price upfront and I agreed to it which was my mistake. I believe I was overcharged and got little results. Sorry, Jeremy. I was charged a total of $1400 for two hours work. I do believe this was not a fair price, but I wanted to get it done so I agreed. I asked if there were any nicer chimney toppers available. He said he doesn't know anything about that. But he's in the chimney business. How could he not have any information on such things? I believe he just wanted to do it his way and charge top dollar and not fix the problem. I'm surprised to see all of the good reviews.
