The hygienist that did my son's cleaning was super gentle and stopped to explain everything that she was doing so that my son felt comfortable. Let the buyer beware. Do your homework and ask practitioners the hard questions. Rarely are dental issues life-threatening emergencies.

However, things changed during a series of five visits related to a cracked tooth that had been causing sharp pain when chewing since summer 2024. From the first visit in August 2024, I raised a concern that the tooth might be cracked. Dr. Kim repeatedly dismissed this and insisted the pain was caused by clenching too hard. On the second visit, he shaved the tooth down to adjust the bite, but the pain worsened. It wasn't until the fourth visit that he finally acknowledged there was, in fact, a crack in the tooth, and referred me to an endodontist. It was disappointing that the tooth ended up needing a crown after six months of severe pain--especially since I had voiced my concern about a possible crack from the very beginning. Despite feeling upset over having my initial concerns dismissed, I never complained or placed blame on Dr.Kim. I returned to Dr. Kim for the crown after undergoing root canal treatment by the endodontist, wanting to have it done before a scheduled long trip, assuming he would be able to handle the procedure properly this time. During the fifth visit, he began the conversation by commenting on how difficult it is to detect a crack. Then, in an agitated tone, he said things like, "I played by the book," referring to the earlier bite adjustment, and, "Anyway, the tooth is now treated, so what's the matter?" Since I hadn't gone to argue, I replied, "You've said that many times already. Let's just proceed with the procedure." However, while he was shaving the tooth down, he lost his temper and began repeating comments nonstop: "I don't want to do this now." "Be grateful for what I did." "I don't do unnecessary treatment. Do you want me to have done the root canal from the beginning?" "Not many other dentists explain things as long and kindly as I do." I had to sit through all of this with my mouth open during treatment. Then, suddenly, he stopped and said a piece of the tooth had come off. The first words out of his mouth were, "It's not my fault. The crack was already there." He continued making excuses until I finally said, "Please stop talking and resolve the issue." At that point, he went silent and completed the buildup--but then told me to leave because he had no time for the next procedure. Dr. Kim was extremely disrespectful and offensive throughout the entire appointment, which lasted nearly an hour and forty minutes. I might have been able to overlook his lack of skill, but his attitude during that last visit was completely unacceptable--especially for someone in the medical profession.

Every single staff in the office was incredibly professional, kind and compassionate. I was met with reassurance, warmth, and even hugs, all reminding me that everything was going to be okay. That level of care means more than words can express. My family has been coming to this dental office since the early 2000s. My siblings, our children everyone goes here. We would never leave. They are a truly personal, family-oriented practice: a husband-and-wife team with an amazing staff who genuinely treat you like family. My son has been coming here since he was in preschool. He is now a young adult and has moved out of the area, yet he still drives all the way from San Jose for his dental care because he refuses to go anywhere else. After…read moremy long-time dentist retired, I gave 3-4 different dentists a chance but they all proved untrustworthy (e.g. telling me I needed expensive procedures I knew I did not need) and/or were ill equipped (e.g. rundown offices with out-of-date equipment). Good luck it was finding Dr. Jin, whose offices and equipment are always state-of-the-art! For example, at the start of the pandemic, she quickly acquired the latest health-safety equipment that enabled her to continue serving her patients without hazard. Her office and its location comes close to "luxurious," as well as just simply lovely, comfortable and convenient (easy access from HWY 680 in San Ramon, fairly near Costco, etc.) For all this, one might anticipate top-of-the-line billing, but no, compared to charges from other dentists dating from 10 years ago, not unreasonable. Especially, considering all the extra expenses I would be paying for the unnecessary procedures that had been proposed - and on one occasion "demanded" if I were to become a patient. I recently dropped my retired-teacher dental insurance and am now on self-pay, which turns out to be cheaper, even given a new crown looming in the future. The courtesy and sincere interest the entire staff shares with you reinforce the comfortable feelings you feel the first time you step into the building itself, even before reaching the office. And an extra plus: highly skilled hygienists...Tiffany, for one, is the best ever !
