I knew there was a kitchen, but if you didn't know, Bespoke is there waiting for your order. Bonus, today was there was a craft fair going on. Two fun things. I ordered the cabbage (nicely sautéed with onions) and the Mac and Cheese (delightful). SO got plaintains and the cabbage. A lot of food in an 8x8 recyclable container filled to the brim. Parking off street. Friendly people. Great food. This will need to be revisited since there is more on the menu to eat.

I stopped by the Caribbean Kitchen food truck recently. I ordered the Fried Fish (escovitch) dinner ($18) served with vegetables, plantains, and rice & peas. My food was prepared to order and ready in about 10 minutes. The portion was very good, which had lightly fried snapper (topped with peppers & onions) firm pieces, shredded cabbage, carrot, peas mix, warm plantain slices, and soft sweet rice & beans. This freshly cooked entrée was very good and had nice flavors. I would definitely order this again!

CARIBE Restaurant - Schenectady, NY…read more I've had the chance to visit CARIBE twice now, and both times were for birthday celebrations. This is a cute Caribbean/Dominican restaurant with a casual order-at-the-counter setup and dine in- gives off a welcoming island vibe. The restaurant was clean, colorful, and full of Dominican flair. Both visits started with the Dominican Appetizer Platter, which in my opinion is perfect for sharing between 2-3 people depending on how hungry everyone is. It comes loaded with sweet plantains, crispy fried plantains, chicharrón, fried chicken tenders, fried cheese, salami, tostones, and French fries. If you're a fry lover, don't skip these! On my first visit, we ordered the pork chops and the pernil. The pernil was delicious--juicy, flavorful, and with the crispy top!! that my friend absolutely loved. The second time around, we both went with steak. I ordered the Bistec Salteado (sautéed steak) medium, while my friend ordered the grilled steak. Unfortunately, my steak came out well done. When I mentioned it, I was told that's how it's traditionally prepared Dominican-style. Needless to say, I wasn't happy and ended up not eating much of it. I did try my friend's grilled steak, and it was much better (for my taste). The birthday girl ordered the seafood rice and really enjoyed it. It was packed with seafood--definitely a dish for seafood lovers! For her birthday she got a choice of dessert and got the Flan- and a island girly her self she critiqued and loved!! Next time I'm in the area, I think I'll skip the entrées and order à la carte so I can sample more of the sides and appetizers. Overall, the food was good, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere was welcoming. The steak was a miss for me, but everything else was enjoyable enough that I'd return to try more of the menu.

I add that point because if you know New Orleans food, you'll know how discerning native New Orleanians are about food - period. Upon arrival to Good Religion, I was a little shocked by the look and it being in NY; however, I am accustomed to good food from unassuming places. I will admit I am not a fan of buffets, but Good Religion is more than a buffet, it's your auntie's kitchen. There is a difference!

I ordered the stew chicken with rice and peas special with a side of macaroni pie. Where do I begin?! It was so good! The stewed chicken was exactly how I like it made -- with a rich thick gravy. The food was packed with flavor and spice, and left me wanting more! I also tried the curried chicken which was also on point. This dish is more spicy than the stewed chicken. I would recommend this as well, especially if you enjoy spicy food. I would say the macaroni was average. I've had better, but I've also had worse. The prices here are great. You can't beat a $5 special that comes with TWO sides! This thing filled me up. The next time I'm in town, I want to try some of their jerk. Overall, I enjoyed the food here.
