Lots of damage on the car, including the front right tire being very worn but was told not to worry about it and I'd been upgraded so this was the car I was having. 2. The car only last an hour and a half before breaking down. Catastrophic failure of the engine on the freeway leaving me stranded for five hours while Avis sorted it out. This rental location was no help at all during this. Side note; the guy at the rental location seemed very keen to make sure I knew the roadside assistance number. Showed it to me at least three times. A conspiracy theorist might say he knew the car was on the way out. Painful. 3. The car did not include a full tank of gas. Was given some story about being unable to fill it up that day so to just bring it back at roughly the same level and there would be no issues (I have rented regularly from Avis for over a decade and never heard of this before). Had the car ever made it back to Rome I am imagining I would have experienced the same as others on excess refuelling charges. 4. We arrived at 8.45am and it said it was closed, even though the opening time is listed as 8.30am. We waited there until 9.10am when a guy who had been standing just down the street the whole time walked over and opened it up. Made no sense. Ultimately, and along with the other reviews of this location, cannot recommend this Avis. It's chaotic and feels dodgy. Get a cab to the airport and suck up the location fees; you'll save yourself a lot of hassle, money, and time. No doubt there will be a response from the location with a list of excuses. My experience stands as terrible and not what we expect when renting from Avis.

Also when my travel companion left his cell phone in the car, driver and company made sure it got mailed to him safely in US. Trip 3: horrendously early pick up in central Rome - and again, a hard to find address - but driver texted me a full 15 mins to let me know he was waiting. Prices work out cheaper than yellow taxis, you don't run the risk of getting ripped off and can travel in style, comfort, and stress free. My go-to company now. Bravi!

Our experience was excellent. Sabrina, the agent we dealt with, explained our options for rental including cars available, fuel options, gas or diesel, insurance and rental policies. We declined the insurance because our AMEX covers it. The Citroen we rented was perfect and we traveled about 375K during our round trip. The car was equipped with on board GPS, which she arranged to have set to English prior to our leaving. We opted for the prepaid refueling so we did not have to deal with that. For 160Euros we got a great deal on a good car and were able to visit more in Assisi at our own pace. The only thing I would suggest is that you inquire if the route you are taking has toll roads, so that you are adequately prepared to have the correct funds available. There was only one employee helping a long line of customers. the only reason it wasn't a longer wait is because the person ahead of me in line that I was chatting with was nice enough to let me go before him. The service rep that helped me was very impatient and rude. I'm not sure if it was because of the language barrier or what. Really tried to push an insurance package. Annoyingly upgraded us to a different car too without even asking and then blatantly lied to us about what time we could return the car by setting us up to get hit with a full day late fee. Be aware that they do not explain things very clearly. Returning the car was just as bad with our check in rep taking over 15 minutes to actually mark us as checked in. They argued with us over the tiniest mark ever that they found on the side view mirror and had to pull in multiple other employees to figure out the situation. To top things off the actual rental location is very difficult to find and people we spoke to that worked in the station were very rude and did not want to help. Do not rent at this location. It's not worth it and they will try and hit you with extra costs wherever they can.
