I went here for extensions after getting a really bad short cut at another salon. First, I was there for 8 hours. I have very fine, thin hair but the stylist placed 3 hand tied wefts on one row and although I am blonde, black thread was used. It was so heavy it gave me a headache. Tape ins were used but I was not given the ones I was told were going to be ordered for me. The color matching was atrocious. I had to go to another salon to have them removed and reinstalled. While on vacation a week later, most of the tape ins just came out. The manager did refund two thirds of what i paid however was not responsive to my second email regarding the ongoing issues with the extensions. read more

At this point, I cannot recommend receiving a massage at FX Studios. Their services and customer care quality has decreased tremendously. I had a massage mid-September 2024 that was sub-par and honestly physically dangerous at some points. I immediately told the front desk who said they would let the manager know. I also completed the review that they sent me after my service and then followed up with an email to their management a few days later when I had not received a response. To date, I have not heard back and this is concerning on many levels. To not respond to a customer when they shared a service could have caused physical harm is negligent. read more

This is a very odd place. You use their website to make appointments and then they don't honor the appointments. Then you call and ask to book with a provider that shows availability and they tell you you can't, that provider is not available. For the price and how slow they are at getting people who are on time in for their appointments, I highly recommend other places and options. FX Studios oozes cool and is drenched with originality. It's not often that I'm going to rave about getting my hair cut, but even if this review was based purely on the experience of getting your hair cut, it would still get 5 stars. It's by far the most customer-satisfaction-driven salon you could ever wish for, and as much as it could be argued that it's a little male-focused, I'm sure there are plenty of women who would shout out and disagree. Where to begin... The building itself looks something like a warehouse - it's pretty enormous. You walk in, and are greeted by their friendly staff, who take some details if it's your first visit, then hand you a 'buzzer' that will let you know when they are ready for you. At this point, the fun is already starting. You have complimentary drinks and Cold Stone ice cream waiting for you whenever you need it, and you can either sit in the 'waiting area', complete with internet stations, or you can wander into the... Oh, the buzzer just went - I'll get back to where you can wander later. You are then greeted by your stylist, who takes you into one of the studios - yep, individual rooms where you will get you hair cut. This is when things get even more unique - your 'studio' faces out onto a movie screen, where a movie is playing; Rocky Balboa while I was there. You also have your own TV in the studio playing the movie too, or you can change the TV to other movie channels or TV stations. Heck, you can even bring in your own CDs if you just want to listen to some music. It was while my eyes were trying to take all this in when I was offered a beer. I love alcohol with a haircut! What? Oh, that's right, I was here to have my hair cut! The hair cut itself is very personal, asking how you want things done, offering suggestions, and making notes on what they did for the next visit. They even tell you that there is no competition, so if you want to use a different stylist the next time, it's something that they welcome; and as you are in your own little room, you don't feel like you would have the glaring eyes of your last stylist staring at you for being a hair-cheat! On top of this, they have a huge number of tranquil spa rooms for massages etc, they have their own gym, heck, this place has everything. The prices are decent - $31 for a men's cut (which comes with scalp massage etc), and it even has the 'convenience' of being on a Light Rail stop if you're a non-car owner (or someone who feels strongly about their carbon footprint!). I can't say enough good things about FX Studios, but I think I've rambled on for long enough. If you're thinking about changing where you have your hair chopped, or if you're looking for spa services, give this a try - you won't regret it. And if you do regret it, they offer a 125% refund if you are not completely satisfied with your experience. How can you go wrong? (Oh, I was going to mention - before I was buzzed, while you wait, you can actually sit in comfy recliners in front of the movie screen and wait to be buzzed; get here early, watch a whole movie, or stay afterwards. Really cool concept though, you walk in, and go into a room to get your hair done and if you look through the glass window, they've got a movie theatre style seating for guests to go watch the movie and for you to watch it through the glass. I love the little booths that you sit in to get your hair done, they are always clean and really nice. I've had a few different people do my hair, all were great but sadly, none are still there. Upon walking in as well, they offer water, beer and other refreshments....wait what? How cool...also they used to give ice cream. For the most part I hate getting haircuts. Regardless, every five weeks my hair requires a trim. FX is the best place in town, hands down. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are at a luxurious hotel spa, yet it's still casual and in no way pretentious. All of the receptionists are super friendly and always offer you complimentary tea, coffee, soda, or even WINE & BEER! If you go, you have to get "The Final Cut" which is an all-inclusive men's haircut. For $33 you get whatever you want to drink, you sit in a private room while you watch the personal TV or the movie playing in the screening room. Oh and you also get a great haircut, which also includes a 10 minute menthol scalp message, while having steamed towel on your face. All this luxurious treatment for only $33. You would pay close to $20 at a Haircuttery for a haircut that you will probably have to correct at home, so just spend the extra couple of bucks at a real salon. What a unique idea and concept, getting your hair cut in a private booth within a movie theater. I love it! I had to deviate away from my barber a couple times this year and FX is the goto for me. The enthusiastic reviews on Yelp led me to FX Studios in search of a moderately priced haircut from a salon and not a franchisey place. I figure a haircut is one of the few opportunities a guy can have to pamper himself. For starters, it's at the back of the building on Pepper Road... be aware of that so you don't end up driving around in circles like I did. The first thing the hostess asked after I checked in was if I wanted a beer. I struggled for a nanosecond before saying yes. I noticed there was also a soda machine, filtered water dispenser, and I think there was a coffee machine, too. I didn't get a change to really check out the waiting area because my hair stylist showed up very quickly. But it looked nice, it had some computers setup, magazines. You do get a restaurant-style "buzzer" so you know when your wait is over. My stylist was the wonderful Karen, who has been working there for seven years. What struck me as fantastic off the bat was if I preferred a scissors cut or using the electric clipper. (I hate electric hair clippers, they make my hair look pokey.) We talked about length, style, etc., and she really understood that I'm a "wait til it needs cutting" kind of guy. She's also in charge of setting the movie schedule, although when I visited, the computers running the movies had crashed, so there was no big screen movie. Worth mentioning is that along with the big screen movie, there are other movies available on the in-studio TV that are usually less "family friendly" (such as swearing), and a selection of cable channels. One thing that I really enjoyed about the personal hair studio was that there weren't any other typical salon distractions. It really allowed me to get to know Karen, who is a bigger geek than me (she plays DND... I could never force myself to do that). I really enjoyed the hot face towel and scalp massage at the end, with wonderful tingly camphor and eucalyptus oil. The fact that I could just sit in the chair and be wheeled over to the sink was nice, too. As for the price... some people will say it's expensive. My old haircut used to cost over $50 and didn't include beer, movies, scalp massage, or ice cream. Did I mention that - there's a chest freezer of Cold Stone ice cream by the front doors. When it comes to getting my hair done, I am about as patient as a 2-year-old getting her first haircut. At first I thought FX Studios was just for guys, but they do women's hair too. Glad I took a chance and tried this salon! I had a formal event to go to and really dreaded the thought of sitting in some snobby hair salon to get my hair done. At FX, you get a room all to yourself, plus you can watch a movie or a selection of cable channels. Service here is superb. The receptionist was super-friendly. My stylist, Sheryl, was totally friendly too, and in a genuinely nice way. A few minutes before my appointment, I used one of the computers in the waiting room to browse some hairstyles online, then I let Sheryl work her magic. The result was an elegant chignon-style updo that I got tons of compliments for at the evening event. I paid $75, plus a tip, and for what I got -- excellent service, total privacy, and a movie or TV to make the time pass quicker -- I think that's more than worth the price! read more

The experience was very good and my hair cut was very nice. I think I've had better hair cuts but after going to the same place for so long it's hard to tell. I had a gift card for FX so I made an appointment for a pedicure. For starters, they ask you to arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. Which I did, but the technician was late by 10 minutes so I sat there for 25 minutes waiting for my appointment. If they're going to ask people to show up that early for an appointment, they should be able to be on time. The massage mechanism on the chair was broken, which would be fine except that it was stopped in such a way that the massage rollers were protruding into my lower back. I didn't want to make a fuss about it (especially since I was already running 25 minutes late) and since each person is in their own private room, it wasn't like I could just switch chairs, so I reclined the chair in an attempt to make it more comfortable, which didn't work very well. One thing I found odd was that they give you a color swatch to choose your nail color. And it's limited to about 16 colors. Most salons have a wall full of nail polish to choose from. The technician did an ok job with the exception of trimming the cuticles on both my big toes until they bled. When I originally thought about writing this review, I was going to break it up into a list of pros and cons but I couldn't think of anything that stood out as a pro. I love this place. But I gotta be honest, I only go there, when my husband and in-laws give me "gift cards", this way I don't feel "guilty" about the prices... lol... I've never done my hair there, only got massages and had my nails done. This is a very cozy place, with treats of wine, coffee, tea, sodas, ice cream, private room with tv just for you. And you get that intimate treatment. The last time I went to get my nails done, I was lucky to be pampered by "Lana", whom I highly recommend. She is this sweet, Russian lady that has been a nail technician for over 42 years, so believe me, she is that GOOD and she will take really good care of you and your nails. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Amy S both times I went to FX. The atmosphere was high end, and I felt pampered as soon as I arrived. Amy listened to me as I talked about what style and color I was going for and made suggestions for my hair type. She offered a thickening treatment because I mentioned my hair was very fine. Amy and I chatted as she colored and cut my hair. I absolutely loved my final result. The second time I had to bring my little children with me and Amy was kind and wonderful with them. She even put on a movie and interacted with them. While there, we decided to cut my very nervous 4 year old daughters hair. Amy soothed her and my daughter relaxed and let her do it. The scalp massage is muy bueno! The cinemas are a bit gimmicky. I mean who uses it? I feel like I should I'm in a peep show looking at the screen. The ice cream has disappeared from the front. Her stylist wasn't available so FX recommended one for the cropped bob cut I wanted. From booking the appointment to walking out with my free ice cream, the experience was a pleasure. My stylist took the time to listen to my "hair history" and spent great pains to get my cut absolutely perfect. Overall this is a fabulous place. I've been several times and have had great experiences with the massages. I had one dud the last time I was there when the therapist talked nearly the entire time and felt the need to give me unsolicited relationship advice. I was completely annoyed and didn't enjoy that experience, but when I went to check out, the receptionist asked me about my time and I told her what happened. None of the managers were available, but she said someone would call me and they did. They were very receptive and I appreciated the follow up greatly.
