From the beginning of the wedding planning, I know how important it is to book a great videographer. All my friends told me that your wedding day will be a blur, all you have left with after is the memories which is reflected in the video and pictures. Such a wonderful experience! We're local raised, but been living in the mainland for the last ten years. Doug and his team produce extremely high quality work. Video Designs did our ceremony (w/jib arm) and reception with same day edits to show at the wedding. The results were absolutely amazing. The team is very professional, shows up on time (well early probably) and they do their magic. Doug is extremely creative in how he designs his shots and it really showed in the results. He also is very reliable and will come through with what he says he will. He is very picky about everything that goes into it so that makes it sometimes harder to work with him because it means you go through every detail, but I think he does that to make sure that you get the absolute best quality results. Quality input = quality output. There is a lot of editing that goes into the show and the result is a professional, elegant, stunning show. It was incredible to see the quality of his same day edits being shown just a few hours after they were shot. There are some time constraints that if he has to do the same day edits, your slideshow cannot be scheduled before a certain time. But work with him and I'm sure you can figure something out. The prices can add up as you add to your package, but at that point it's all quality work, regardless of what you get. He also can do the underwater "trash your dress" shots and a whole lot of other things if you're interested in more. He's creative so see what he can do. If you want an extremely high quality video production, then Doug is your guy. I have in the past used several and different videographers mainly for the purpose of recording celebration of life of beloved ones but none come closer to home as FX Studio owned and operated by Douglas Kazama. In September 2022, another beloved one has passed on, and this time it was my father in law. I was determined to look for a videographer that is not only a good producer but someone that I could work with and trust to produce a video from a very personal touch. Someone who understand the video was for celebration of life capturing and reflecting the many happy memories moments that we had with my father in law. We would work together for the music to accompany the video. In November 2022, as promise Doug delivered the video via Vimeo link, and it was impressive and masterfully done. Let me start off by saying WOW!!! Doug and the whole FX team made our wedding experience memorable! My wife and I went to numerous Wedding Expos, trying to find the right vendors to participate and help create our special day. When we came to FX Studio booth, there was something different with them compared to the other videographer vendors. It was the connection Doug established with us. It wasn't a " Hey, here's a flyer. My wife and I got married in August 2014 on the North Shore. We found FX Studio through a local search of wedding videographers in Honolulu area, and we chose them because they offered a very good value for the price. We had about 140 guests and went with a one camera package. The owner, Doug was very professional and friendly to us through the process. We gave him a CD of 5 songs to include in the video. During the ceremony, Doug showed up early, did an excellent job capturing all the moments (I don't think he missed anything important) and engaged with guests during the cocktail hour. The camera was not distracting to us all throughout the ceremony and reception. He captured a green flash at sunset which was really cool (and included it in the video). Doug asked us for two pictures from the photographer to put on the cover of the Blu-ray disc, and was done about 6 weeks afterwards. The video was very nicely edited, packaged, sound quality was great, and shot in HD so the picture was excellent. Overall, my wife and I were very happy with Doug and FX studio as a whole, and would recommend his services. Many of the other companies in Honolulu we researched charged more money for comparable services. Weddings are expensive enough as it is, and Doug does a great job. Doug is an excellent videographer! He filmed a traditional Japanese tea ceremony event hosted by our ladies' group last year. Doug and his team are the epitome of professionalism and true aloha. It was easy to set up a meeting time with Doug to discuss our vision of our wedding and to talk about what he could do for us. We really felt that Doug tried to get a sense of who we are as a couple and how best to capture what we wanted. We truly appreciated that his contract is clear and easy to understand, and that it explains what he and his team need from us, and the timeframe they required us to get our material to them before the wedding (a copy of the wedding invitation, our songs) and afterwards (specific photos to be used on the case of our blu-rays and on the disk itself). We thought the pricing for what we got was very fair and the production quality was excellent. It really was like watching a professionally produced movie. You should see the samples on the FX Studio website - they are a true representation of their usual work product--which is nothing but excellent! What is priceless is the way Doug and his team captured our personalities and, while our video was very much polished, it was not a false, sugar-coated representation of our wedding. We told Doug at our initial meeting: we are not a perfect couple. We know where are warts are, and we have no problem with having them shown in our video. Let me tell you: there were a lot of "mistakes" or not necessarily the most flattering moments at our wedding (including a third of the reception attendees leaving early because of a flash flood that threatened access back to the Windward side, where most of the groom's family lives...including the groom's mom and grandmother, who unknowingly missed the first dance and the moms' bouquet presentation) and they were in the video. But we wouldn't have had it any other way, because not only did they actually happen, but Doug captured all of it in a way that was gracious and fun and, for lack of a better way of saying it, "us." There was an intimacy captured in the filming despite the fact that Doug's crew was completely unobtrusive during the event. We absolutely loved that Doug captured a momzilla moment at the altar (but it was done with humor), a little bit of the groom's frustration with a knot just before the ceremony, the bride's sudden emotional overwhelming, and the coordinator's Superman-like efforts to keep everything moving smoothly (completely unstaged, our coordinator leaps over stairs and removes his t-shirt while wearing a lei and slips on a fresh long-sleeved shirt). We could not stop laughing at the hilarious backstage kitchen scene Doug captured of our friends and caterers (Alex Le as well as Alison Yokouchi of Pig and the Lady, Chefs Aker Briceno & Lindsay Ozawa of Prima Kailua, and Mark Noguchi of Pili Group --yes, we're shamelssly name-dropping, because we love them). This brings me to an important point. We had a personal relationship with all of the vendors prior to our wedding, with the exception of FX Studio and our wedding singer (the amazing Amanda Frazier) and her band. But Doug has become a friend to our family because of the integrity of his work and the aloha he shares. If you want a wedding video that looks like a fairy tale, Doug will do that for you. To be honest we weren't planning on having a videographer for our wedding but our photographer had recommended we consider it, especially for the ceremony. It ended up being one of the best decisions and money well-spent. Working with Doug has been an absolute pleasure! He spent the time to get to know my now-husband and I on a personal level, and we really connected on our mutual side-hobby of hiking. Not only was he prompt and professional with meeting up and signing contracts, but he was such a class act at the ceremony. He was dressed in our colors and tied those in perfectly into our final blu-ray product. FX Studio is Amazing! We worked with Doug first over the phone from Los Angeles and only met with him the day of our wedding. Even with that amount of time, our wedding video came out better than we had hoped or even imagined! Alpha my name is Cherish , My husband and I had gotten married in September of 2014. Working with Doug was just extravagant. Let me just start out saying that 2 years prior to that I was attending my cousins wedding at the Hale Koa hotel, and they had played their same day edit of the wedding. Of course it was an emotional moment, but since that day I had always dreamed of having a SDE AT my wedding (at that time I didn't know it was going to happen) as my planning process started to to be broken down, I've watched numerous YouTube videos on SDE and cryed for hours, until one day I can across the website for Doug and then realized by speaking with him, that he was the company that did my cousins wedding 1 year prior. At first my husband and I didn't want to get a videographer for our wedding because we were trying to stay within a set budget. After talking to our friends, we decided to consult with couple of videographers, one being a recommendation from our photographer because he felt Doug/FX Studio and he work well together. Our photographer recommended Fx Studio. Did my research online and contacted Doug. Doug replied right away and we scheduled an appointment to meet up with him in his studio. He showed us numerous samples of past weddings and it got us in awe. His prices were perfect for my budget. On the day of my wedding we had an unexpected event that got everyone on edge. But Doug and his team were very professional. Doug never kept me in the dark, kept in contact with me on how my video was going. At my wedding they weren't overbearing and all up in your face. I barley noticed them. When it was time to pick up my video i couldn't pick it up right away but he was very accommodating. Husband works out of town so it was just me and my daughter. He showed me clips of the most important parts and I was getting excited. He also included popcorn and Arare so we had something to snack on when watching...I thought that's was very thoughtful of him. He also recommended that me and my husband watch it alone before showing them to the rest of my family...good advice!!! Me and my husband were in tears...happy tears! Doug got all the good angles of my ceremony. I wasn't able to see anything in the beginning of my ceremony but he caught all of it. I remember walking down the aisle trying not to look at anyone so I wouldn't cry. He caught my husband tearing...which made me tear while watching. It was like I was reliving that moment. We also had a same day edit of our wedding...It was hilarious! Doug had gotten our reaction on video when we were watching the same day edit at our reception and I was in tears...laughing tears. Doug found a secret calling for my husband...my hubby was a great actor! I'm usually camera shy but he made it easy for me. The music I picked for each section of my video was Clear and perfect! His team also did some one on one with my entourage and even though the music was in the background you couldn't miss anything they were saying. When my husband and I started planning our wedding, we were on the fence about hiring a videographer. We aren't the type to take a lot of videos or to even like watching videos of ourselves.
