This is an unusual wine shop which came to notice only because a yelp-search showed it had zero reviews. Seemed interesting enough to check out, particularly so as it was time for dinner at a local byob restaurant.
Items of interest: it's located next to a Chinese restaurant with the same Fuzi name: "Yao Fuzi Cuisine". Second it was closed despite being a couple hours premature. Third, peering into the window, the shop had a very promising look about it: no posters of happy harvesters carrying baskets of grapes, no promotional cards (93 points!) or shelf hangers (buy 6 save10%). But the real closer was a most casual atmosphere about the place, indicating no pressure to buy or sell. I was motivated as much by the mystery inside as I was by the very real need to drink a bottle of something good this night.
Next door, I asked the Fuzi hostess when might the wine store open and a moment later I was there. Another family member who I took to be the manager of both businesses let me in, explaining the hours were a bit misleading because the store is run more as a kind of boutique arrangement, not by appointment only and also not necessarily open when the sign says "open".
What I bought was quite good but what was on the shelves was even better. Not a place for Napa cab, the inventory is heavy on French with burgundies a highlight. I'll be here another week and will be increasingly in need of this place read more
